Dramatic battle is a special co-op game mode in sfa1-3 that allow both players to help each other instead of fight. this encode done with Dammit's FightingGameOSD lua script http://code.google.com/p/mame-rr/wiki/FightingGameOSD

glitches and techniques

crouch canceling

The way sfa3 juggle combos work is, as soon as you enter a neutral state the opponent can air recover. For dramatic battle this counts both characters, so a dragon punch can become unsafe on hit if your partner is grounded, beacuse the opponent can recover immediately. A common technique for extending juggles is to crouch when landing and then immediately rejumping. This prevents you from going in to a neutral state. This isn't used much in the run, beacuse they get old really quick, and Rose and Dhalsim are not well built for them.

Simultaneous hit and throw

This game lets you combo some throws and hits on the same frame. If done on an air throw, the hitstop will happen after the throw is finished. There are some more glitches related to this but sim and rose can't do them.

Super throw scaling

Most attacks do very little damage to the boss characters in dramatic battle. Here is a data point.
lv3 Yoga stream does 61 damage to normal Adon, it does 49 damage to boss Adon. 80% damage
Air Super throws don't have as much damage reduction on them.
lv3 Yoga Strike does 72 damage to normal Adon, it does 64 damage to boss Adon. 89% damage Even fully scaled, a lv3 Yoga strike does noticeable damage.

AI manipulation

Despite fighting multiple opponents the AI can only focus on one opponent at a time. It faces and will only react to and attack the the character it is focused on. This is why Dictator whiffs a throw in front of Dhalsim in the last round, he is focused on Rose and can't throw sim.

Pushback negation

In the corner instead of pushing the opponent back, the game pushes the attacker back. In sfa3 dramatic battle it will only push one character back at a time and it's not related to who is attacking. It is possible to negate pushback by causing the opponent to enter hitstop. So a rapid sequence of attacks cause less pushback then the same attacks linked slower. Some characters can chain light attacks so fast they can completely negate hitstop. If you put one of your characters between you and the corner, then there will not be any push back for the character not in the corner. Weirdly Rose's fireball has a pushbox on her scarf on startup. This leads to some weird movements when it pushes dhalsim back.

Simultaneous Supers

If both characters supercancel at the same time they can both use the same meter. Not all supers work well together, but beacuse Rose can do soul illusion she can always use a bar.

DarkKobold: This movie needs to get handled. Unfortunately, it is far too similar to another movie, [1300] Arcade Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha "Dramatic Battle, 2 players" by errror1 in 03:19.00, on the site. It uses the same characters to the same effect. Thus, my options at the moment are either A) Accept, and obsolete the other movie, or B) Reject. Opinions welcomed.

sfa3 and sfa2 are way different then all the Sonic and megaman games combined. Is there any precedent for a run obsoleting a different game? Because if so, I think smb1 should obsolete smb2j

Yes, there is. Top Gear 2 obsoleted Top Gear 1. Also, there is precedent for rejecting an entertainment movie like brain age for being far too similar. In this movie, you use the exact same character pair, to the exact same entertainment effect. While, to a trained SFA3/SFA2 expert, these movies may be distinguishable, to a normal viewer, it looks like two characters unfairly beating on the CPU. I think a different mode, or different character choices may have helped this submission. However, it seems far too similar to the other movie.

I'm familiar with those, the kattobi cancels stuff is neat but has a really limited use.

That could be said of just about any two games if the viewer isn't familiar with them. Is there anyway to restart the thread with this in mind? I bet I get the same number of yes/no/meh votes.

This is simply wrong. I am no "expert" on either game (I played both SFA2 and SFA3 very casually), but there is a huge difference between the two games, and the difference in combos error1 used between both films were immediately noticeable. Really, the only way anyone could think they are "similar" is if they ignore absolutely everything except the character sprites. In which case, a similarly absurd argument can be made that Sonic/Sonic 2, Megman X1/Megaman X, etc. are "practically the same game" and there should be only one run for both. I also agree with error1 that the difference between SFA2 and SFA3 is greater than in either of those two examples. Now, just because some people on this forum are a lot more familiar with Sonic and Megaman than they are with the Street Fighter Alpha series is not a good reason to choose either one movie or the other.

megaman, sonic, mario, zelda..are games with diferent plataform and most them the game no allow use other char, so the player show what the game give... I'm not like when the everyone wnat compare fighting game w/ adventure one.. "they are diferent world" About this run, I really liked this run and I don't see none problem but if see there'some problem, this only by it uses the same fighters even though the game give us around 36 fighters.. sfa2 and 3 Are games diferent, sfa3 is better(the game) than previous one but sfa2 mainly the zero2alpha this is a game with many glitches( it's the more glitch) than sfa2. This run and the previous The previous the funniest because of addtion the glitches and when I watching I said "WOW" This others showed I saw the glitches, but they were small, and many people that watched it doesn't realize anything,but the one that have knowlege of that game,realize.

Indeed. The criteria mentioned by DarkKobold doesn't make sense; the Street Fighter Alpha is a very popular franchise, but obviously not to the same extent that Mario, Megaman, or Sonic are. There is a major difference between A2 and A3, but maybe it's hard to see if you've never played either game. Just like how it would be hard to tell the difference between Sonic and Megaman games that you've never played.

The point that is being missed here is that this isn't a run oriented towards speed - it is an entertainment/demonstration movie. Therefore, it should demonstrate something sufficiently different from the rest of the content of the site. Brain Age 1 and 2 were totally different games, with totally different mini-games. But the end result was something fairly similar.

For what it's worth, I agree that SFA2 and SFA3 are two different games and should be listed separately, without one obsoleting the other. For precedent, we have separate entries for Hocus Pocus 1 and 2, or indeed Skyroads and its christmas special despite those games use mostly the same graphics and use the exact same engine. Sure, people who aren't dedicated fans won't be able to see from a screenshot which game it represents, that's why we have the submission text. If you show a random user a screenshot from Megaman, he won't be able to tell which game in the series it's from, either.

well what I wanted to say since the beginning is that this race it will not count to the maximum Entertainment only makes combos here does not only possess glitches nothing the previous version has well more Entertainment of what this and is more glitched that this.
