Comments

The normal method for unlocking dramatic battle is to leave the arcade on for a few months. Alternatively, there are some codes you can enter in the test menu to unlock it http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_Alpha/Secrets#Street_Fighter_Alpha_3

glitches and techniques

crouch canceling

The way sfa3 juggle combos work is, as soon as you enter a neutral state the opponent can air recover. For dramatic battle this counts both characters, so a dragon punch can become unsafe on hit if your partner is grounded, beacuse the opponent can recover immediately. A common technique for extending juggles is to crouch when landing and then immediately rejumping. This prevents you from going in to a neutral state. This isn't used much in the run, beacuse they get old really quick, and Rose and Dhalsim are not well built for them.

Simultaneous hit and throw

This game lets you combo some throws and hits on the same frame. If done on an air throw, the hitstop will happen after the throw is finished. There are some more glitches related to this but sim and rose can't do them.

Super throw scaling

Most attacks do very little damage to the boss characters in dramatic battle. Here is a data point.
lv3 Yoga stream does 61 damage to normal Adon, it does 49 damage to boss Adon. 80% damage
Air Super throws don't have as much damage reduction on them.
lv3 Yoga Strike does 72 damage to normal Adon, it does 64 damage to boss Adon. 89% damage Even fully scaled, a lv3 Yoga strike does noticeable damage.

AI manipulation

Despite fighting multiple opponents the AI can only focus on one opponent at a time. It faces and will only react to and attack the the character it is focused on. This is why Dictator whiffs a throw in front of Dhalsim in the last round, he is focused on Rose and can't throw sim.

Pushback negation

In the corner instead of pushing the opponent back, the game pushes the attacker back. In sfa3 dramatic battle it will only push one character back at a time and it's not related to who is attacking. It is possible to negate pushback by causing the opponent to enter hitstop. So a rapid sequence of attacks cause less pushback then the same attacks linked slower. Some characters can chain light attacks so fast they can completely negate hitstop. If you put one of your characters between you and the corner, then there will not be any push back for the character not in the corner. Weirdly Rose's fireball has a pushbox on her scarf on startup. This leads to some weird movements when it pushes dhalsim back.

Simultaneous Supers

If both characters supercancel at the same time they can both use the same meter. Not all supers work well together, but beacuse Rose can do soul illusion she can always use a bar.

DarkKobold: This movie needs to get handled. Unfortunately, it is far too similar to another movie, [1300] Arcade Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha "Dramatic Battle, 2 players" by errror1 in 03:19.00, on the site. It uses the same characters to the same effect. Thus, my options at the moment are either A) Accept, and obsolete the other movie, or B) Reject. Opinions welcomed.

DarkKobold: Accepting as on obsoletion to the currently published dramatic battle. Reasoning explained here: Forum/Posts/302556

So it's a month and a half later, and this is still deadlocked?

DarkKobold is still waiting for people to comment on whether the run should be accepted and set to obsolete the Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha movie already on the site or rejected. But no one's shared an opinion because everyone seems to be ignoring most TASes in the Workbench. I haven't watched the Zero 2 Alpha movie on the site, so I'll have to do that before I form an opinion on this.

I count about thirty posts between DK's query and now. You don't think any of those people was sharing an opinion?

No one's shared an opinion in the last three weeks. That's a long time, considering this movie is on the Workbench, where topics are expected to get more attention since they're submissions of TASes waiting to be published. Besides, seven recent posts are about Dark Noob's English, and not about the submission at all (that's not counting the one unintelligible comment he wrote which was about this movie).

I haven't ever played either of these games, and I don't know much about either one, but I like this TAS more than the published run. While not having as many apparent glitches (again, I'm a layman), I found the battles as a whole more entertaining in this run than the ones in the published run, not to mention this game has better graphics and more of the fight announcer's lines than Zero 2 Alpha. I think this movie should obsolete the published run.

For what's is worth, I also found this movie very entertaining and it would be a total shame to see it go. This is the second time I say this on this thread. Then again, as this thread has proved, entertainment value is a very subjective thing...

3 months + to judge a movie? I have to think this one is now a record, unless someone can cite one that took a lot longer. Must be one helluva decision to make and I sure don't envy the judge(s). Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

seems like there have been some in the queue a long time when there were encoding issues. Not sure what has been in the longest. This might end up being the longest without being judged.

Question: Why is this not tagged "2 players"? Otherwise solid yes, just don't watch in full screen, the flashes hurt my eyes.

I say this should not replace the other Street Fighter Alpha run. This one, while fun, is not as good as that run.

That's basically what Dramatic Battle means. two-on-one

This has been a difficult decision. I'm definitely going to accept the run. However, it is down to a decision of whether or not to obsolete the published SFA2: Dramatic Battle run. In reality, after watching both runs, the games appear sufficiently different to warrant different publications. That said... My issues with both runs being on the site are three fold. #1, this is an obscure game mode, not the normal game type. Thus, it isn't like a standard Mario or Sonic game, it is more akin to a concept demo. #2, this mode is almost like an easy type. It is 2 players vs. 1 CPU. While some people are entertained (this movie's feedback is OK, not stellar), it is sort of the anti-tas, by ganging up on the CPU. Generally speaking, the reason for the hardest difficulty is that we slate things against the player. In this case, things are stacked in the players favor, and just becomes another fighting combo movie. Had these movies been 1p vs 2 CPU, it would have been a much easier decision. #3, it uses the same exact character pair. There were 100s of combinations that could have been chosen, to set it apart from the other publication. However, the author chose to use the exact same character pair. Yes, they have a slightly different art style, and a slightly different moveset (which is more apparent to fans, than to the general watcher.) However, it feels like very little was done to distinguish one movie from the other, to the general watcher. I will admit, I am not a fan of fighting game TASes, especially straightforward combo movies. This makes the decision even harder, as I am trying to remove my bias from the decision. These are the reasons the decision has gone so long.
