Hmm... Just a question; How do you make movies out of SNES games? How? What do I need? Any special emulator that I should use for this? I have some timeattacks that I could share, but I need help for the recording part. What you need to make SNES timeattack movies?

So far the only emulator with recording is ZSNES. You can do speedruns etc, but you can't rerecord. If you are to record, you will probably want to use .989c or earlier...actually, just use .989c, cause the compression of the video on version after the version mentioned breaks and the movie will do odd things, like your char will do things you did not record.

Hmm... so I need znes v. ?.989c to be able to record what I play, or? Is it like hitting a button and then it records what I play, or is there a bit more advanced than that? I'm so n00b at this, so yes, I need help, obviously.

Its not hard at all mate, all you need to do is load up the emu. Then load up the rom. Then push esc so you can access the menu again, click on Misc then on movie. then hit record. Thats all, then whrn you want to stop the recording, hit stop.

Yes, _looks_ easy... but what else do I need if I'm going to make videos like these NES videos found on Bisqwit's site?

If you are going to make that kind of videos on snes, you'll have to wait for the zsnes release that supports rerecording.

Ah, I see. So the ZSNES version out now does not support that, huh? That sucks for me then. I was going to make a Super Punch-Out movie (full + the fastest times I can do) + Turtles 4, for now...

I am glad ZSNES will have rerecording support, i will have to redo many of the videos i have made. Cept now they will be perfect. Got a question about it though, will the output format of these movies be AVI or still ZMV?

ZMV of course. AVI is a multimedia format - not ideal for storing game data :)

Culden, what videos have you recorded? I'm working on Super Punch-Out at the moment as it is the game I can get world records and show a quick way on how to beat those guys easily and quickly (without cheating, of course). Wonder when that ZSNES will be ready...

So i take it that the implementing of rerecording for the windows version of ZSNES, they will also fix the compression of the movie recording i hope, cause otherwise, it would be pointless. Even if we were to make speedruns of snes games, snes games are generally longer than nes games. Also, you would have to do it in less than 10 minutes or the movie will mess up. As for the recordings i have already completed, i already completed *from beggingin to end* Breath of Fire 1, Breath of Fire 2, Illusion of Gaia, Earthbound, Secret of Mana and Twisted Tales of Spike McFang, but these are not speedruns, they are walkthroughs. All legit, 100%, cept earthbound which i cheated the weapons and armor, so i will need to redo that when i get the time. But if i start doing speedruns, i will not bother for awhile. ^-^

Maybe games are longer but are compensated by better graphics and sound.

How does this re-recording thing work? Is it like I can "edit" my already recorded video, or? Hmm... Whenever ZSNES w/re-recording option available is released, will you, Bisqwit host the videos, or? By the way, nice job by managing all this. Good job.

Culden told me to use v0.989c to make ZSNES movies, why not just use ZSNES v1.36, or does that make the quality of my videos look crappy? What ZSNES is best to use for recording?

ZSNES 1.36 has been known to have desync problems with long videos, while the older versions (for ex the 0.989c) do not suffer from this problem Rerecording SNES emulators already exist, but I think none have yet been officially published. They are very close to that point though. I have had the privilige of testing one of these emulators, and I have already successfully created an SMW timeattack. New versions are being published and bugs are being squashed as I am writing this, and I think we'll be making groovy SNES vids in no time.

Well, I suppose it's not all that important, but my experience with ZSNES v1.36's recording has been worse than "long movies going bad"...I recorded a bunch of small movies, and at first they played right, but after I had made a few a couple of them stopped working.

It'd be interesting to know what your in-game remaining time units for each level were. :)
