Mario has work a lot, and have earn so money that he can't take any piece now. Just kidding it is just a run with no piece taken, for the fun! I've first have the idea of this because it's the only way to finish mario that I have never seen before. So I've think that it could be maked.

DarkKobold: Judging.

DarkKobold: Hi and welcome to TASvideos.org. Your run is not really up to our standards. You do not use all the known tricks. Additionally, Super Mario Bros. is rather played out, and pretty much every doable category has been done. I'd suggest choosing a different game if you plan to submit in the future. To prevent this category from being submitted again, I'm rejecting on goal choice.

I spent the better part of 3 hours trying to double wallkick on the left wall to get up over the coins in 1-1 and I don't think it can be done. Feel free to prove me wrong, of course.
How about running through the blocks beneath the coins?

1. No capitalisation(super mario bros. in stead of Super Mario Bros.) 2. New taser 3.No use of pipe in 1-2(could glitch through wall and not get any coins there) 4. Meh vote

Of all the reasons to vote no/meh, that's the best you can do? Because he's not a native english speaker, and he's never sugbmitted anything else here before? Really?

This are the worst reasons to vote no or meh I've ever seen.

Of course it's possible, me and mars won't take 1 minute to solve that. And "all coins" sounds like a pretty stupid goal to me. It's pointless to get them all, and you have to kill yourself many times in order to do that. Minimum score is a better goal to me, clear and challenging.

Agreed, collect the maximum amount possible of coins. And if two mutually exclusive routes produce the exact same amount of coins, choose the one that's faster.

What's the use, coins seem to be the one of the most unnecessary kinds of objects in SMB system, and there's plenty of them! You can easily get infinite coins by dying again and again, even if dying is banned, I bet hardly someone would like to spend more than half an hour just to watch Mario get a lot of coins. And besides, the current warpless run of mine gets plenty of coins.

Yeah, it's not like 100% completion speedruns are popular or anything.

The word "popular" depends on who should judge it. Like my "lowest score 500" run, rejected here, but got at least 3 million viewers on Youku. To me, as always, lowest score is the best possible route there is besides all the TASes published here.

Those games either have a built in counter for what % you got, or there is some kind of status screen to see which items were obtained. SMB has none of that.

I would. And I think it'd be quite a bit more interesting than minimum score. There's a lot more variety and strategy to it. Aimless playaround for the better part of 15 minutes got old real fast.

Create a thread in NES Games? More people would see it and take part in discussion. Let it be called "SMB Maximum Coins?" - do you mind?

I think if you want to get ALL COINS in the entire game, you should get them on the regular path, and not take the pipe for secret coins, ... without backtracking, you can say you got ALL REGULAR COINS, but if you go through the pipe, you will be skipping some of these.. =P As for the run ... I'm starting to watch ... now. And stopped on 0:11~0:12 seconds because the author decided to win a coin from the ? box ... voting No for that ... O_o EDIT: Oh, it was a mushroom ... the pipe path is so common to me that when I saw he hit the ? box, I paused immediately x_x sorry about that =P EDIT 2: Still a No vote for so many unoptimized parts, but ... this has the seeds of greatness, if worked through again, and I too thought of that after watching the 8-1 part .... if you learn to skip flags and go through walls, you can at least raise to a lot of Mehs ^^

If you're so much interested in coins, why not watch a run of mine? HL Coins Land (original SMB1 Hack) TAS in 10:49.38 (2011.2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8elHTkNlbc As for coins in SMB, they do not have much effect, and they are not precious because there are lots of them. Taking all those coins, but there's nowhere to spend them, how could that make any difference? And with all the known glitches about SMB, a TAS like that would be a huge project, which I'm not interested in.

HappyLee, that is not the point. The point is that people are willing to watch a half-hour run of Mario collecting as many coins as possible (let's say, without death), just because it is an interesting goal to them. People are willing to watch a Mario walkathon because it is interesting to them. People are willing to watch a low-score run because it is interesting to them. No one says you have to make a run with whatever goals people come up with. It's just that a few people expressed interest in that type of run, regardless of whether or not anyone does it.

Similar statements can be made for both the walkathon and the low-score run.

Well, walkathon can at least prove that SMB can be done without pressing B button. Lowest score can at least prove that we can complete the game with only the score of grabbing the flagpoles by avoiding unnecessary objects. These two tasks are both hard in its way, and many of the normal people would consider it impossible. But, as we all know, coins grow back after you die in the level, and how easy to get infinite lives in 3-1 and such. So what I'm afraid is, people would say: "so I've seen your performance of getting all the coins, but what's the point? There's still some coins you haven't got, and I can easily beat that by using death, no big deal, because I have infinite lives anyway..." Maximum coins sounds more like a "show off", but what exactly does it want to prove?

I agree that there is a qualitative difference between runs with subtractive constraints and runs that seek to do as much of something as possible, and that the former tend to be more interesting to more people. That isn't to say that certain individuals might not want to watch a max-coins run, and if they want to make one they should go for it. I wouldn't support it's publication on TASVideos though, and given that the low-score run didn't make it, I expect the majority would agree with me. Unless it were exceptionally artistic in some other way at the same time, that is.

The case with max coins is that it really brings much action to SMB, while the current published runs have very much common and people are somehow used to them. Except for the warpless walkathon, that really LOOKS different. Why was lowest score rejected? Because regardless of tons of action ity provided, it was actually slow. Nowhere to hurry, just waste all the time. It looks awesome for those who don't know the glitches, it's kinda SMB trickfest. It looks awesome for most of us... for first dozen of minutes. Then we AGAIN get used to it, see nothing really different and (not speaking of myself) get bored. Now if we take max coins (be it all pipes, or no pipes, or some pipes), something different can be shown and seen. As all the levels have something different, it woild come up with different decisions. Let's THINK different. Let's TRY, and if no one is interested, only then say it's worthless. Thinking different may be risky, but staying usual kills the spirit of NOVELTY.

Thinking different, that's what I thought too. But talking about Maximum coins in SMB, it's more than large, it's a huge project indeed, so just trying is way not enough. And the amount of the work may be way bigger than the meaning of doing all those if you know what I mean. Most of the coins world be got without any glitches in that TAS, probably you need to pay more attention to coin blocks. There's going to be lots of slow-downs just for a few coins, so whoever wants to work on this has to be prepared, and also for the cheep-cheep glitch in 2-3 and 7-3 I guess. If it's just hard or challenging, I'll do it. But this looks like hard but not so meaningful to me, so I'll pass. I don't know if we really need a maximum coins branch of SMB on TASVideos. Since we've rejected my lowest score TAS, I guess maximum coins doesn't stand a chance, unless it's extremely powerful and entertaining.
