..can someone who is good at luck manipulation (or figuring out the code of the game) please tell me how to manipulate what I encounter in a random battle? Because as far as I can tell it's decided by where you encounter the enemy after a predetermined number of steps and chosen from a list in such a way that it's always the same formations in the same order.. EDIT: I'll fight Tatu x2 + Gatlings because I can't get a Tatu x2. This information would be very helpful for the final version though.

47 minutes. Magisa and Galura down. It's probably faster (and less annoying) to avoid the poisoned plants rather than using an inn afterwards. I incorrectly assumed that the getting-on-Hiryuu event gave full healing like every other boss's after-event has until now. From here, Switch Faris back to thief Get 2000 gil See the king Go to Meteor Go to Karnak Buy Ice Rod Go to Prison Buy more Ice Rods Steamship Kill Liquid Flame (2x rods) Learn Deathclaw Kill Iron Claw (2x rods) Edit: Geuh, the see-the-king event is optional.. which means I need to get the 2000 gil before killing Galura. So I have to redo the past few minutes... ah well.

I haven't looked at the enemy-encounter code for this game yet, but from my experience with this code from a few other FF games, what you've described sounds all too familiar (especially FF IV). =} I'll find the code later on and have a look.

I know that's how it works in FF1, but in FF6 (and I assume in FF5, though my experience here shows otherwise) one of four possible monster formations is chosen at random from the possible list each time you enter the encounter / switch locations / encounter a black screen / whatever the trigger is. But it might just be that there's some list of numbers 1..4 somewhere that the game looks at to decide which of the 4 formations to give you, whcih would suck unless there's still some way to control it. Anyway I know how to manipulate luck during a battle and how to change the chance of running but not how to change what you fight. Any help would be very much appreciated... ^__^

Is there any equipment in this game that change the encounter rate ? In FF6, equiping/unequiping Charm Bangle or Moogle Charm can change which battle formation comes next.

There's Thief ability Keikai (Caution; prevents back attacks) and Ninja ability Senseikougeki (Preemptive Strike; increases chance of party striking first).. but nothing that I know of changes the encounter rate itself. EDIT: 53 minutes. This one goes until being thrown in prison. It also handles Walse -> Galura differently than the 47 minute version did.

Hey, this trial is looking great so far. But do you think you could start throwing in some save-states to immediately load to the newer stuff, since even at frame-skipping at maximum it takes a bit of time to get to the end of the video... ^_^

I just watched the latest vid and noticed you missed a very important shortcut in the Wind Shrine. In the room before the Crystal room, you take the long road, while there's actually a hidden passage through the wall at the beginning. I'm talking about the room containing the first boss. You can save yourself a lot of walking time and a full encounter that way. Also, this movie should definitely have some extra explaining text boxes. It's hard to follow, as it's Japanese, but my main concern is the fact that all sorts of cool strategies are being executed without me knowing what the hell's going on. Like that Ice 3 thing with which you beat Medusa. How did you pull that off? I'm willing to provide graphics if the information idea is liked. EDIT: Are you planning on beating Omega? It would be fun to see, even though it might take time to gain the required skills, unless you're already gonna get them for something else. And what about Shinryuu and Necron?

I never finishied Omega. I managed to beat Shinryuu though but Omega was just to hard when I played it. So that would definitely would be cool to see.

Thanks! That's another big addition to the "mistakes made" list that whoever does the final version should be aware of.

Very definitely explanatory subtitles would be nice. Either subs for the story, the strategy, or both.

I'm only doing the first world for now, because I know optimal strategies for all of the bosses. Also, depending on the best way to handle a few second-world bosses some events in the first-world need to be done differently (getting certain equipment, mastering certain abilities, capturing a Garkimasra or other powerful enemies, etc). Remember, this is a trial run.

I'm not sure where you could cram in subtitles (or FF5-styled windows, would look nicer that way) that explain the story. Displaying them along with dialogue boxes wouldn't look nice, anyway. We'll think about that later, though, since the trial version's not even done. I'll render a battle of the trial run to AVI and see if I can magically get some explanations to appear in there. Omega requires X-Fight and Magic Sword, so that would require you to master either one of those classes. That just takes too much time, I guess. By the way, this is vague since I've not played FF5 for a long time, but isn't it so that if you use Scan on Omega, the box will show that he's at Lv. 119? Freaky.

Not at all, that's just an easy way to beat him. Anyway, the best ways involve mixing a Kiss of Blessing to make him Berserk, then nullifying physical attacks (Knight using !Mamori does fine, as does calling Golem every round or two). After that you can kill him however you want. He's the only boss in the game immune to L5 Death...

So, is anybody gonna try finding out about manipulating pseudo-randomness? It would be very cool if every battle in the game would be a pre-emptive attack, and that sort of stuff. :)

63 minutes. This goes until the destruction of Karnak. Note: Butz dies and remains dead because I made an error in EXP calculation. If he's alive, the whole party goes to level 5. If he's dead, he stays at 3 while everyone else goes to 5. In the optimum case (following the battle strategy outlined in my corrections posts), he, Lenna, and Galuf will go to 4 while Faris goes to 5. New bosses: http://www.geocities.com/boco_xlvii/06-LiquidFlame.zip http://www.geocities.com/boco_xlvii/07-IronClaw.zip Now, I only need two living party members to kill Byblos.. and I only have one Phoenix Down.. so I guess I'm set for the next two bosses as well.

I still don't understand why must あ -- ahem, Butz be kept at a low level.

I'm not sure myself. Maybe it's because of Goblin Punch, of which the damage is calculated by comparing the user's level to the level of the monster the technique is used on.

In this particular case it's because if everyone is level 5 I will get a game over when I learn L5 Death in the Ancient Library (next dungeon).

Why would that be? And why needed Butz be kept at level 2 earlier?

L5 Death kills everyone in the target party with a level divisible by 5.

Siren is level 2. Using Goblin Punch on a person of equal level does 8 times normal damage (16 times because I'm in the back row).

I had no idea. These are things that would make the subtitles very valuable.

Yeah, definitely, especially since it's Japanese.

Boss breakdown: 01. Wingraptor. If he guards (his 3rd action), for the next three rounds he counters all attacks. This is the same as the intro boss in almost every FF. Here he dies before guarding. 02. Karlaboth is weak vs Thunder, so he dies in 6 casts of it. 03. Siren is level 2, as are Butz and Galuf, who kill her with two Goblin Punches apiece. 04. Magisa dies to a single cast of Blizzaga. Luckily there was an Ice Rod in Karwen. 05. Galura is level 3, but has an extremely high Speed and counters almost every attack. So Butz, Lenna, and Galuf can do damage with Goblin Punch, but Faris's action must be using a Whip to stun him. Because of this, Faris needs to temporarily change Jobs to Suppin. 06. Liquid Flame is weak to Ice in two of his three shapes, so he dies in two casts of Blizzaga. Ice Rods are sold in Karnak (the first for 185 gil and others afterwards for 700 gil). 07. Iron Claw only appears after the three Karnaks are dead. A multitarget Blizzaga does nicely. Then, some luck manipulation to learn Death Claw, and another Blizzaga finishes him off. 08. Ifrit is weak vs Ice, to two casts of Blizzaga (more or less) should finish him off. 09. Byblos is not a type-Heavy monster, so Death Claw can cut him to single-digit HP. 10. Sandworm falls to 3x 水遁の術. 11. Clay Claw falls to 2x 雷神の術. 12. Adamantoise falls to L5 Death. After this I'm unsure of the best strategies. The cannons can die to about 20 total 雷神の術 and some of them also to L5 Death. ArchaeoAvis will fall to !Hanatsu + Sandbear (or a few 水遁の術) and (after 6400 damage) to L5 Death. Of the three meteors, Pyroboros dies to 水遁の術, Titan dies to !Hanatsu + Sandbear (but one party member needs Float), and Chimaera Brain dies to Death Claw.
