Well, now that Bisqwit has made a complete map of the Desert of Sand Tides, I won't finish mine. And btw, I found a way to help you a lot in the fight with Titan. As you all know it uses Eath Shaker (or something like that) as final attack. I've found few ways to survive of that attack (some of them has already been pointed out in here). 1. Use Dragoon's !Jump ability 2. Go to North Mountain and control a Ghilcat (not sure about that name) and use it in the battle to cast Float 3. Use Chemist's !Mix ability and mix an Antidote and Maiden's Kiss to cast Float. The fastest way (don't know for sure) might be useing Dragoon, but useing Chemist will most likely be easier.

For me I had Butz do Jump!. I waited until he was in the air and then I had Faris and Lena each cast Fire2. When Faris was done Titan would do the final attack killing both Faris and Lena, but since Butz is still in the air I won. Of course all of my guys have a few more levels than Bocos so the amount that Fire2 does would obviously be different.

I made a brief walkthrough of what you'll need to do after the Desert. It isn't full to the end of the first world, but i think it will help a little thou. It most likely needs some improvement but as a very rough varsion it should do. ;) If i have enough energy and time i could finish it (to the end of the first world) during this week (and if no one else hasn't done it by then.) 1. Beat the Sandworm (300HP) with AquaRake or with Ice spells 2. Go throgh the Desert of Sand tides by useing Bisqwit's map (and capture those Sand Bears if you want) 3. Go south and enter Gorn Town 4. Go north to the stairs, follow King Tycoon to the left, go to the ruins in the sougheast corner, follow King Tycoon north, go to the "backyard" of the ruins, go back to the stairs, follow King Tycoon 5. You'll fall in the trap door, go left to the door, step on the teleporter 6. follow the path to the door, use the lever to open the door, continue to the ships, go below the deck, talk to Cid, talk again to Cid in the air (6,5. you can learn mini and get shurikens if you go south in the roon with the lever) 7. Kill Clay Claw (2000HP) useing lightning based attacks (Lighning rods are most likely the easiest & fastest way, but Lightning Skillz's are also pretty good) 8. Fly to Gorn Town (to reveal the flying fortress) 9. Fly back to the airhsip dock (in Crescent Island) and talk to Mid & Cid 10. Fly to Tycoon Meteor, enter it, touch the Adamantite, fight the boss 11. Kill Adamantaimai (2000HP) with L5 Doom (Ice works also but you won't be needing it ;) ) 12. Return to airship dock

Me too! I read someones signature that his or hers future project would be this game. I sure hope someone is doing this though because it's one of my favourite games of all time!

Mine too. Final Fantasy V is incredible to play and has a lot of speedrunning potential. I'm still very willing to help out with the running, although I wouldn't be good at route planning. I'll test out route theories you may have, though, if you'd like me to!

Mine also. ;) Best FF ever (or atleast one of the best). To see a complete TAS of FFV would be a dream come true.

Quick bump to see how progress is going? Seems to be a bit dead. I'll take it up once I finish my corneria run.

There's no need to thank me. ^^ I've been playing FFV for years, and I still occasionally do play it. I've put over 600+ hours into it, so I figured I might as well make one as a TAS. =) I'll follow the route Boco's been going, but what's the wall-trick in the Wind Shrine? I don't think I know it. As for the classes and optimization, I'll try and see if there's anything creative that could be (maybe) more effective. Expect to see me begin this in a week or so. Hopefully. =D

There's an invisible path where the Boss is, where you can walk through & save some time... (You can try using a thief in that part to see the path...). It's at the beginning of the entrance, like 3 or 4 steps... (this is from my memory, but I don't think I'm wrong...) BTW, there are some hidden treasures that may slow down at the beginning, (Like the Fenix Down at the 1st meteor on the right...) but when you do the TAS, it would be good to check if you need some treasures (or quick money...)

from what ive gathered, id say blue mages, trainers (catch?) and chemists are going to be extremely useful in this as compared to a normal game. the gamefaqs' faqs have some insanely easy ways of eliminating tough oppositions like the seals and ex-death. the low level and boss FAQs especially. though, we are psychic gamers here, as well as luck manipulators, so it will be fun perhaps putting that guide to shame. but id suppose you'd already know all these things ;D. in any case, im psyched this might actually get done. AHEAD AND ON YOUR WAY! (ok, that was a little too corny, even for me)

I'm actually pretty tempted to just go the following party for a good part of World 1: 2x Monk 1x Blue Mage 1x Black mage This is because monks are able to retaliate back, not to mention their p.atk is incredibly high, they have high crit rate, and 2x damage is always a plus. The mages can be backup or viceversa [with the mage being the offensive and monks finishing enemies off.] I tend to play a balance game with mages, making two mages switch jobs with each other so I can slowly level them both but still letting them capable of casting skills with each other (It's more common to do this with black/white, but I think blue/black can work too. It's worth a try anyhow, since Blue Magic isn't all that great.) I'm not very sure about class specifics (the job bonuses to stats, that kind of thing) and will research this later on tonight to see if any jobs have some extra speed that will add to their ATB. As someone stated before earlier in this thread, RM will most likely not be useful unless I badly need one character as something else and he/she can't slot a bm/wm skill, in which case I'll use a RM. I'll post about my progress once I start. Corneria run is pain ;-;

thieves are quickest, monks have the highest HP gain, strength and vitality (though they tie with the ever worthless berserkers in some places), and summoners (level 6!) have the highest MP and magic power. im really starting to wish i hadnt thrown out that research i did a month ago while out of a job and without internet. and... sorry, but i dont like your setups. i could be wrong, but you won't be worrying about strength so much because theres a LOT of instant kills against bosses (through the 3 classes i mentioned before). but, id still love to see how this will work. good luck.

Heehee, you don't get what I mean <3 The point of the monks are not to be the killers, but the tankers and the finishers of enemies. Like you stated, Monks have a lot of HP. Added with the fact they can auto-attack when hit, they can finish off bosses/enemies [that have been death-claw'd] which can save me frames. Adding it up, I'm sure it can be of SOME help. And it's fine, the way I go about things is never really liked. It's worth a try, and if it doesn't work you can all ridicule and flame me for being a little noob. As for the instant kills, L5 Death and whatnot is long ways away from the Wind Shrine.

It's good that somebody taken this :) I was trying to develope strategies for the run at GameFaqs(as TsukiNoNeko), but then lost my motivation and was taken away by FFVII speed run. Now after seeing someone (aresake) started thread for FFV at speeddemosarchive I gave him my and strategies from japanese site I found earlier and he was able to complete his run. All info you can read here : http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_newer;action=display;num=1130750474 Good luck at your run ^_^

Yey! Finally someone is continuing on making FFV run. It's definitely one of the best FFs ^^

Here's a screenshot of that shortcut: http://koti.mbnet.fi/maza-/pics/FF5.png (if you haven't already found it) EDIT: If you don't know much of those secret passages, I think you should check every room (where there could be a passage) with Thief, to make sure you won't miss any shortcuts.

With those strategies at the SDA forum I think worlds 2 and 3 can be done reasonably well, they don't require as much W1 preparation as I thought. Um, I'll probably still have Galuf hold a Sandbear until W2 and probably use more Sandbears against W1 bosses but some of those end-W1 and W2/W3 strategies plus the end time of ~3 hours means if I find some time I'll finish my test run and Meepers can make the final version taht fixes my 11,000 mistakes. BTW I would reccomend against using Monk. You should probably follow my path unless you know you can do some better.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Boco, could you give us a link to your latest run? or is this latest: http://www.geocities.com/boco_xlvii/ff5movie.zip ? I'd like to try/test my encoding skills on your run. :) EDIT: And it would help if I knew which rom you used.

Hey Vidar, when you start the run, don't forget that you can perform the steal glitch to steal good items or sell them for money (like those expensive rings or elixirs & so...), I don't think they would worth throwing, but may does... If you don't know about the glitch, I think there was a FAQ on GameFAQs that explains it...

I have made an AVI of the latest work in progress to those who are interested in watching it. Like all other recent movies, it's encoded in x264 with MP3 audio. Get it from the Archive.org Details page, or download one of the different quality versions directly:

So Vidar, have you started the FFV run? ;) And samurai goroh: what is that steal glitch you mentioned? I couldn't find anything about it in GameFAQs.
