Well, I've been working on it for a few months (thanks to homework and anime, heh), but Mega Man can finally return to kick Wily's butt again! Hopefully y'all will enjoy this movie as much as I do. :)
Emulator - SNES9X
Time - 00:39:55
Frames - 143700
Rerecords - 26022
Takes damage to save time
Aims for fastest time
Uses no passwords
Manipulates Luck
Abuses programming errors in the game
About programming errors:
-Bass glitch-
In all three Bass battles you can hit him immediately for the final shot even though he is still flashing invincible. None of the other bosses demonstrated this bug, though.
-Fire while charged glitch-
If there is a period of time when you can release the fire button and not lose the charge, pressing the fire button the exact frame you'd need to maintain the charge will keep the charge while firing a normal bullet as well.
-Non-recoil Noise Crush charge-
Sliding ~0-2 frames after firing you will keep up with the shot and absorb it.
-Stuck-in-wall glitch-
If you get hit at the same exact time you go through a mid-boss type door the movement from being damaged can force you into the door. (Note that in my movie I went through the door backwards to gain a little distance)
-Music glitch-
Specifically, even though Slash Man died (at Wily Stage 4) the boss music continued playing until I left the room.
About manipulation of luck:
Throughout the movie I manipulate luck when I can to make enemies drop extra lives (still rare) and bolts. I also manipulate luck to force bosses to delay as little as possible. Examples of the later include Turbo Man and the final battle against Wily.
About fastest time:
Well, perhaps it wouldn't be appropriate to include this considering I obtained the Rush Adaptor and didn't spend two months to see if not getting it was faster, but it *might* be faster. In any case, getting the Rush Adaptor makes the second group of bosses (Shade Man, Turbo Man, Slash Man, Spring Man) look a hell of a lot smoother. Those of you who saw my first version might recall that the Slash Man battle looked like shit (well compared to fighting him with the Noise Crush). Without the Rush Adaptor I would either have to fight Shade Man or Spring Man with the normal buster, both of whom spend a good amount of time too high to be hit. So, that's the trade-off.
Well, I think that covers everything...

I find Megaman games to be very entertaining, possibly because your character progresses. As the game goes on there are different ways of attacking things, and different areas to do it in. This run is no acception, I enjoyed it, and am voting yes.

How is it going with the encoding of this avi Bisqwit? Still having trouble with the desync? :(

It hasn't been accepted yet, so the encoding isn't going at all.

Wanna bet its been accepted both official and unofficial? Because he wrote that he attempted to encode it but the file desynced for him and therefore he must first try to find a way to encode it and figure why it desyncs for him also Bisqwit wrote: "Until I know, I can't possibly encode this movie to AVI" which clearly indicates that this submission have more or less been accepted.

I think he meant he was just trying to watch it. If he can't even watch it, then he can't encode it if it were to be accepted.

Hopefully, Phil will come to the rescue. Otherwise, uhh, we might need to get some new encoders?

Well, I've been playing around with encoding it myself, but I can't declare any success yet. I've been sort of reluctant to capture the entire run uncompressed but I did some math a little while ago and I guess the file should be under the 4gb AVI limit. So, I guess in about an hour I'll know if I can compress it good enough (but my past experience suggests that I simply don't use the right software...Virtual Dub...to compress nor add subtitles)

Seems like the problems with desyncs were caused by myself using a n ASMCPU=1 disabled version of snes9x... I'm slightly ashamed now. I'm encoding this movie succesfully now.

There's no need to be ashamed. That fact that you can now choose to encode it is good. :)

Some of the battles (against robot masters) were boring. Even though they were simple to you, I think you could have used a wider variety of maneuvers. Such as hitting from different directions, or something. Repeating the same sequence of movements (jump, slash, wait) 6 times in row just doesn't look that cool.

Hmmm. Believe it or not, that hadn't occured to me... ^.^;; Yeah, I was pretty blindly pushing through those battles. I guess in some cases I might be able to use some cutting\pasting to modify just those battles (and hope that changing when the shots happen won't completely destroy everything random). Even then, the reason I didn't turn around and start working on a 100% Mega Man 7 run was...well, naturally I've gotten sick of it...so I'm probably going to put off working on that... ¬_¬;;

Don't worry about that :P The rest of the run is great, and also what I see of your R&F run it will be nice as well.

Yes it is. And it would have already been released if I didn't forget to put the author's name into the subtitles and had to re-encode it.

Hmm.. You could just make an avi with that and join them together right?

I do what works. There's no one paying me to release a movie within a certain time limit, and therefore I don't stress myself with something I don't want to concentrate on too much. This movie will be released before monday morning (EET), and that information should be enough for you.

Those are not hashes of the ROM, they are hashes of the file that contain the ROM's data. The MD5 and CRC32 hashes of the actual ROM which could be gotten with NSRT:

Funny, Snes9x gives different CRC32:
Because the code I put into Snes9x hashes the ROM, not the file which could be interleaved, have a header, or who knows what else. Your hash program takes none of that into account.
Gigafrost wrote:
Oh, one thing I noticed is, if I'm reading the info correctly, your ROM seems to be 512 bytes smaller than mine. Maybe that's just related to the amount of bytes used instead of the size...I wouldn't expect the checksums to be the same if they were really that different.
Your file contains a 512 byte header in addition to the ROM. His file is pure and only ROM. Hope you will all be more knowledgeable now.
