This is the third installment of my attempt to take Red Scarlet's "Two-Item Run" to the next level by only collecting the Maru-Mari throughout the game. The door glitch is used to gain access to Norfair, thereby able to travel to Ridley's Hideout, and it is also used for access to Kraid's Lair. Again, only the Maru-Mari is "collected," but missiles are gained from bosses to complete the game. I haven't before this seen a run through Mother Brain's Lair, Tourian, without the Ice-beam to freeze the metroids.
-The ending alone is enough to watch the movie. My first attempt was a test run for response and the second, although seriously flawed, got serious raves about the concept. So, hopefully this one will cover all the bases. Improved are the following (just about everything would cover it, but specifically):
  1. Less conservative about energy and missiles until after Kraid's lair - speeds things up quite a bit.
  2. Better jump timing and Maru-Mari abuse.
  3. Zoizite's "Maru-Mari block glitch" utelized in the only place I can to save much time.
  4. Improved Ridley and Kraid battles with use of turbo-fire button.
  5. Faster complete run through Tourian (well, it seems faster).
But all-in-all, it's the same run with less time shaved off than it would take to heat a Hot-Pocket, but I still dig it.

Bisqwit: Rejecting this submission, because it is way slower than Zoizite's movie, even when considering the difference made by up+a.

Aww, you left with 1 excess missile. ;) Seriously though, when you destroyed the last boss and "time bomb was set", you escaped the place slower than Arc did. When the screen changed, your clock had 841 left, whereas Arc had 859 left. I don't see this caused by any item or health condition, so I'm assuming you just played less accurately than Arc did. This one was easy to check due to the clock, but I will assume this wasn't the only similar difference. Also, the playing in the last room looked quite a lot clumsier than in Zoizite's movie, for no reason (I can only imagine you had worse luck, but you can manipulate luck). One thing I noticed was that every time you had to shoot backwards, you visibly stopped to do that. I don't know how slow is Samus in turning around, but if it were me, I'd try to turn back and shoot for 1 frame, then continue running and not stop and wait until the bullets hit their target. I will not accept this movie - I'll wait for at least one more improved revision.

Yeah. I think this movie was generally good. I allways enjoy these kinds of runs. But there are several smaller mistakes. Here's some of them I thought of: When falling as a ball, you morph back to human form earlier than you have to. Why is that? The ball is smaller and you should be able to pull off some even more hardcore moving. Also, the ball bounces a bit, allowing you to bounce instead of walk of some platforms etc. When you engage riply you wait for all the shots to disappear. Woulden't it be smarter if you could take some damage and just jump right at him and pound his sorry little butt? At Kraid you also avoid more than you have to I think. Not super sure about this though. It just looks annoying. Do you really have to turn around to kill enemies? I don't see why you should do that at all. If you have to you could probably wait until the flying enemies are straight above you and just kill them that way. Thus making you move forward all the time. I will vote NO for this time and wait for a better update. Hope we're not driving you crazy though. Because I really love your plays.

Well, I thought it was faster to not stop for energy on the way there than to take damage on Ridley - one hit there and I was dead. I had to stop for a second. At Kraid, I needed to start conserving, so I jumped once to play him flawlessly (notice Arc gets hit once). It's not a long run to Tourian and I can't get energy or missiles in there. I only had 2 life in the final room and couldn't get hit even once. And the escape run...well... K. I thought about it all day and I'll do it one more time, but I gotta wonder if I have the skill for this game or if this run is just a dumb idea. One thing I want people to consider when I submit again, however, is that Zoizite has every item in the game by the end and Arc stopped for an energy tank. The energy and missiles kinda roll like this: -Half conservative on the way to Ridley so I can last long enough to beat him then trounce on the balls to get everything at 100%. -Less conservative towards Kraid because I have a lot to play with. -Way conservative after Kraid because I need a lot in Tourian. -Collect over 90 health and at least 100 missiles to survive and beat Tourian in that little path from the climb in Norfair to the entrance to Tourian. That's not a lot to play around with and if I stopped to get energy from the enemies along the way that I don't already get stuff from, I think that would actually take more time. As for the final battle room in Tourian, it was 10AM and I just wanted to get this thing just done, but I couldn't do it insanely better because the energy just isn't there. The most I've ever gone into that room with is about 30 health, enough to take one hit, while Zoizite gets hit at least twice on the way up to Mother Brain with the ice beam and the screw attack. The problem in Tourian is that I can back up the metroids a little further to take less damage when I'm in the door, but this will take up a bunch more time. It seems faster to just take the hits and not be able to take a hit inside Mother Brain's Lair. There isn't a whole lot to play around with. But as for the improvements I'll strive for: More energy collecting on the way to Ridley and Kraid so I can take a hit of damage and immediately start wailing on them. More conscious of the frames I'm taking up while shooting backwards (which I can only remember a couple of times I do this anyway). I know all this sounds pretty defensive, but I appreciate being pushed to perfection with the criticism, even if I am making a career out of this run. And every time I redo it, I find myself saying "Oh, I did that a lot faster this time," so it's working. But I think after this time, I'll just pass the idea along - gonna take some time, though.
