I just started playing this game tonight. It's alot of fun, it's really strange how everyone calls gold, golds. It makes me giggle. Also how much all the NPCs blink... it's extreme. If I get anything usefull for you guys I will post it here. Ok here is some mediocre stuff I can say. Firstly, I think my eyes may have been playing tricks on me, but it seems like you accelerate if you walk and jump. I couldn't really put my finger on it. The fastest way I have found to kill the jumping skull heads is to hit them and then deluge them. Someone said that if you get hit you usually get knocked back. This is true, but if you hit the far side of the enemy he will actually bump you forward. This added with the invincibilty frames can make a pretty good technique. I know this is nothing super good, but if you guys didn't know these things...

If there were a ASCII jaw drop emote I would use it here.

When someone has time and energy to encode and publish it.

I think there is. At least if we ignore that none of the following chars are actually ASCII. °д°

I'm willing to bet $10 that [P]-[a]-[B]-[l]-[o] has it set so he signs in automatically. ^_^

I love Faxanadu and I agree with the author of the recently released speedrun that it is highly underestimated. Being extremely familiar with it, let me point out this small time-saver that was absent from said video. In Conflate, there's a screen where you can go right or left that contains 2 of those slug-like monsters that give you bread when you kill them and a bottle of poison on the right-hand side. It may seem hard, but you can jump over this bottle without being damaged. Wouldn't save you much time, but every millisecond you can shave off is worth it, I guess.

Didn't know that. After like 50 tries on that I just thought it was impossible. Thanks anyways.

If you do a second version, try it. It works, I promise. I've been successful in doing it several times. Keep up the good work; very entertaining stuff.

For that matter, that place where you grabbed the Wing Boots to fly that short part, that's doable without the boots as well. 2nd dungeon, would it save time if you went for the elixer and the wing boots first? Use what's left of the 1st Wing Boots to skip the first part of the climb. After the mist city at 16:00, would it be faster to stay on top of the blocks there? At 16:36 is there a particular reason you used Deluge? At 17:08 would it be faster to skip those two enemies? At 19:36, would it be faster to hit the squid twice instead of waiting on it? At 22:21 would it be faster to stay on top? At 22:41 would it be faster to be hit by the squid? At 23:25 would it be faster to jump over the clapper? At 27:14 where does that hole go anyway? At 31:05 would it be faster to just hit that guy twice, or does it not push him back enough? At 34:28 Why does he have two hand daggers?

About the elixir in the 2nd dungeon, no, he has to give his first elixir to the guy watching the fountain of trunk, the reason he gets it later is because it saves time later in the game and is an excellent way to totally rejuvenate himself. 16:00, would not save time, also he is killing those yellow enemies on purpose to get gold for later. So killing them saves time later, and thus staying up would not save him time. 16:36 Deluge was used because if he had hit with sword, he'd be stuck midair, magic does not stop you, that means he can continue and not fall down. 17:08 Money again, killing those 2 is faster than killing that yellow guy once when you come from below and need to go high, and gives more money. 19:36 Actually that one is a possible one, but considering killing the squid gives him health (food), which he needs later on, taking more damage would put him in a worse situation, also note that you pause for a while when you get hit, and that those squids hurt quite a lot. 22:21 It would have been faster on that screen, but next screen you'd get hit by and/or taken damage by that yellow guy. Also those yellow guys are good money. 22:41 Health. Getting hit by that squid could have given him health issues later. 23:25 No, the clapper had stopped, jumping there would have given him an headache, also the clappers damage over the entire screen, so if he had run past him, he would take damage and be stunned for a small while. 27:15 Why don't you try where it goes :P As far as I remember it leads back to beyond the door he just came in, which of course is not desireable.

No, not getting hit by him, hitting him, if you watch it he runs ahead of the squid, pauses, waits for the squid to go past then jumps up and finishes him off, would it be faster to jump up and hit him, then continue up and kill him on the top platform. Unless I'm recalling something incorrectly and the squid turns around everytime when he gets hit instead of just when you hit him in the front, (which if you hit him at the very last second might net you some time as well, just no meat)

I was pretty sure he has a good second or so before the screen flash.

Then would it be faster to use that at 28:52 as he's coming back?

As said earlier, if you hit someone mid air, you fall straight down and lose all velocity. so if he had jumped up that way, he would just fall below. Most likely anyway. 23:25 That second is used up a few frames after he's past him. They flash pretty fast unless you kill them immediately.

28:52 Probably not, as he would have to go around quite a lot.

That was quite a long list. Thanks TNSe for filling in for me. I will try to answer most questions again though.

If it is Im kinda ashamed. I tried this jump more then twice and when I didn't succeded after like 50 tries I redid a part to get the wing boots instead.

No, this would not be faster. Not only would I have to go up there again to get another elixir but I would also have to backtrack again. Seems very unlogical.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

I don't see that as faster. And also, I needed the money. Those dwarfs gives me kinda much money.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Uhm. Yes. Else I would have stopped in mid air as TNSe explained. I think I included that in my submission text aswell...
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Maybe, but I still need the money at that point and if I hadn't killed those I would have been forced to kill the dwarf atleast 1 extra time.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Maybe. But still have to swing my sword 3 times at him.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Why would that be faster?
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Of course. I just wasn't sure about my energy at that point and also I took damage while falling down to the next screen.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Possible. But that guy uses magic and that's why I killed the first one earlier.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Sorry man but that's a stupid question ;) Atleast in the context.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

He would have pushed me backwards and also he takes pretty much energy so no, I doubt it would be much faster.
OmnipotentEntity wrote:

Because it looks cool. Actually I have no idea. Ok. I will redo this run some day (after next wednesday) and Im glad you liked it. Thanks for some useful suggestions.

Don't have negative thoughts, Walker Boh. Remember your mantra. ;-) This is a tough game to speed through considering all factors. The speedrun is impressive, and I think I speak for all of us when I say we're looking forward to version 2.

Thanks SlyBeast. I apologize if I was rude or something. Anyways, v2 will come up in the next week hopefully. So if you find any more of those possible time savers (big or not) please tell me right away. And btw, that hole you asked about Omni, it takes me to a small area under my current route and from here it's possible to enter the brown area again. But it's not a short cut so I didn't take that route.

Take this as a "iirc", it's been a while. Though the poison that SlyBeast mentioned I'm certain about. You might have to use the squid though.

Why would that be faster?
You stay out of the enemies' way. Then again those guy are worth about 250 apiece so it might be a money thing.

I know, I remembered it going somewhere, but I didn't remember where. Figured it'd give a chuckle maybe. ^^;;

Nice! I enjoyed your superplay quite a bit :) I didn't notice that much that could use improvement, but then again I was just happy you completed it :) I saw you didn't use death as a shortcut back to town. I'm not sure if it would save time, but there are two places it could have a use. 1: The trip back from the black onyx.. You could go from from the last town you visited, and (if you have the wing boots -maybe if you got the ones that you did on the way back on the way there instead) you can get to the next section quite fast. 2: After getting the battle suit, it would save you a key as well as time getting back to town (maybe). However, I guess money seemed to be the problem (especially for tilte :/ ), so maybe it was necessary to go the long way back for those two times. I'm not sure if its faster not to buy tilte, since I've made it through the game without it. Those last bosses sure did die fast with it though :) Who knows though.. maybe the time saved from killing all those enemies and buying less food would make it faster... I guess thats all I have to note. Thanks for making the time attack :) Shimaknight P.S. It was pretty impressive without death :) I dont know if it really is better to throw it in there :P
