I grew up on the C64. I played it most of my life. Because of that I had a lot of favorite games for it. Two come to mind that might make for some good TASing. Impossible Mission Not be confused with Mission: Impossible which I frequently did as a kid. This has a rather acrobatic spy running through an underground lair full of rooms searching for pieces to a puzzle which would spell out the villain's control room password. There are robots and balls of death to avoid (all insta-kills) and furniture to search that take various amounts of time to complete. There isn't a lives counter, but you are timed. You start out with 6 hours to finish, but every death takes off 10 minutes of that time. If you run out of time the villain wins (he does something bad, but it doesn't show you what). Thing about this game is that it was, if you can believe this, one of the first video game to use speech synth. It has an SMS port, but it doesn't have the speech that made it famous on the C64. Thing on a Spring A pretty surreal game of a....thing on a spring. There are 20 rooms that you explore and collect items from to form a picture to "summon" this goblin and defeat him. It's hard to explain because the goal isn't very clear just by playing the game and I can't find a manual anywhere. What would make it a good TAS is each room has a lot of challenges to get through. Possessed toys running around, disappearing ground, bubbles that take you to different places, slides, elevators, and probably other things I don't remember. Does anyone else remember these games and like to see a TAS of them?

You are a human living in a post-civilization era after mankind destroyed it in stupid wars. When aliens invade the world and enslave humanity, your only chance of salvation is to search for a legendary armour that was often mentioned in the tales of the elders: the armour of Antiriad (a corruption of the word anti-radiation). However, you will also have to find some missing pieces to restore it to full power, so that you are able to blow up the alien headquarters and bring freedom to your species. Right, some time ago I even recorded a small example movie for the C64 version of VVVVVV in tastudio. So it indeed does work!
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

I'm going to add Below the Root to the C64 wishlist. And now with Official BizHawk support, I think the C64 threads deserve their own discussion group (instead of just being in "Other Computers")

Press Your Luck In the 1st round I get 12 spins, both CPUs get 4 spins each. Both CPUs get 4 Whammies, putting them out of the game. I go for $1,500 in 10 spins, Add a one for a one round total of $115,000, then instead of taking the final spin of the round, I freeze. Then I only get 3 spins for round 2, landing on $5,000 + one spin every time for 77 spins, then Double your $$ + one spin, for a grand total of $1,000,000.

I suggest Eindeloos. It's a very technically advanced game (for the C64, that is) and offers a huge maze. At the time of release, it was rumored to be impossible; the name literally means "Endless", suggesting there is no end to the game. There actually is, but it took players several years to reach it. It would probably make a good dynamic TAS.

I'll look into it. EDIT: Looked into it. Have roughly translated the in-game story as well as the instructions and story presented on the game packaging. Tinkering with controls at the moment. Not a very easily controlled game. Joystick input is only read every 8 frames or so....shooting is even worse....roughly every 16. Lots of lag that varies depending on movement and screen activity. Interesting note...Radarsoft offered a contest right on the game's packaging offering some nice sounding prizes for whoever could map the game. Unfortunately....I have been unable to find ANY maps of this game. Thankfully there is a longplay on youtube I can use as a base guide for doing a TAS. MAYBE if I get REALLY ambitious....I'll map this whole thing!

Sleepwalker by Ocean. This one looks interesting as you have to push the sleep walker where you want it to go. This game looks like a pain to rta. The physics look slippery which I find amusing to tas

Such memories are awesome. Especially the last stage, when TF2 Sniper knife fights Santa Claus over an oil river in the docks that lead nowhere. My friends and I spent so many hours playing this game as kids.

Ghosts 'n Goblins, super short, only 4 levels and 1 loop, then I think it just keeps looping for scoring purposes. I've done 2 loops and nothing new happens, just the same end screen and loops again. There are some things I don't go for in my run that would save time. Can jump the Ogres in level 2 (tho they can follow you to the other side of the house), and jump the full flames in level 3. Ghouls 'n Ghosts, mostly a straightforward run, no damage boosting like other version. I noticed there is a weird thing where you can sometimes buffer a jump after doing another one, and sometimes you can gain height and jump from above hitting the ground, maybe something could be found with that. You can also sometimes clip thru slopes but might not be super useful, as you fall faster than the camera and the bottom of the screen kills you. I use the Lance for most of the game, none of the other weapons offer an advantage and the Lightning magic is great. I switch to the Axe in 4-2 for hitting Arremers in Stage 5 and it's magic is very good for the stage. But potentially maniping and switching weapons more could be useful. Pharaoh, an obscure platformer, with puzzles involved. Goal is to go around opening chests, 16 total, and build up 4 flames. To build up a flame, you need to get a pot, then oil, then flame out of chests, in that order. The order of the chests is important, as you need a key to open the first locked chest that has the empty pot, then you can get oil out of the next chest, and then you can finally get the flame. If you try to get a later item in the progression early, the chest will just give nothing. I believe my chest route is good, and I have a map if someone decides to try it out. 2nd part is the puzzles, you have to solve a lights out variant for every chest, flip every tile to an ankh. Gryzor (Contra). Port of the arcade version. I used spread the whole run but I think Laser is potentially faster, tho you would need to be much more precise with it. I started a TAS of this a while back. And IIRC, I was using laser. I might need to go dig that out again.

Castlevania. Has the classic dying into a loading zone makes you invincible, seems like it works only on upward stair transitions, but not totally sure on other transitions. For RTA I use the glitch on every level but the first, but likely a TAS would skip some of them. Holy Water does not stun like on NES, but I think it could be useful on certain bosses, since it still does multiple hits if their hitbox is low enough.
