heh.. for some weird reason Shang Tsung's stage fatality works only in The Pit 2. Don't ask me why...

I'm starting to believe that the 'Toasty' Guy, Dan Forden, doesn't come out in 'The Portal' level on a 1-Player run-through. I've uppercuted my opponent on 2000 different frames (or so it would seem) and still he does not appear. Whenever I test a 2-player run on 'The Portal' level, the 'Toasty' Guy comes out in like the first uppercut. Maybe it's a bug in the game or maybe there's some sort of lock-out stipulation in which depending on what I do before 'The Portal' level determines if the 'Toasty' Guy appears. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to manipulate the appearance of Smoke in the 'Living Forest' level, you know when he peeks behind the tree? I got Jade to peek but that was unintentional. Also Smoke appeared before a fight on 'The Pit II' level and told me: "You can start finding me". If anyone knows anything that could help then that would be great but in the mean time I'll still be doing tests. Edit: Okay, it's not possible for him to appear in 1-player run so if I'm going to fight Smoke I'll have to have the second controller press start in 'The Portal' (damn that is getting annoying) level and start a 2-player game, uppercut my opponent once and get the 'Toasty' guy to appear, and then press down and start on the correct frame. The biggest problem with this is that after I beat Smoke it'll take me back to the character select screen and the second player will still be active enough to have to pick a character and also that will stir up some controversy on this run so my best bet would be to either find a glitch that allows me to be able to fight Smoke 1-player (probably not likely) or not fight him at all (I hope this information doesn't annoy you like it annoys me).

Um.. I'm pretty sure I've played against smoke in 1p mode. Can it have to do with the revision of the rom you are using?

I'm using 1.0, so I'll try 1.1 and see what happens. Edit: So far no luck. I even tried the European rom and still nothing. I hope someone can prove me wrong because I don't want to scratch off anymore plans on my list. Edit2: This is irritating, the 'Toasty' Guy comes out on other levels than 'The Portal'. I'll do some more testing and I do believe it may be possible fight Smoke. Edit3: Okay, I'm wrong, I don't think that the 'Toasty' Guy ever comes out in 'The Portal' level on a 1-player run on the SNES version. If anyone doubts this then I ask you to try it yourself and please let me know all about it.

I (you guys) have two choices: I can fight Smoke but it takes the second player to join because the 'Toasty' guy JUST doesn't appear in a one player run. But in doing this, after the fight with Smoke, it takes me back to the character select screen but the second player is still active and has to pick a character and I have to fight/beat him to continue on. Now with this in mind, I could fight the second player in most entertaining manner possible (a close battle might be nice) so this is the first choice. The second choice would be not fighting Smoke, continuing on through the run as glitchy as possible. I can see choice one as a great possibility but I need reassurance from anyone who may be interested in this run or game. Also, to give you an update, it has progressed nicely up until this little thing.

when i was a youngin and we all had mortal kombat just because the general concensus was that the super nintendo version was the worst version cuz there was no blood in it.. they'd laugh at my friend and go LOL I HAVE A GENESIS I PUT THE BLOOD CODE IN ABACABB oh man and instead we'd go to his house to see giant blood splotches that stuck around for half a second and poured out like a water fountain... The game's characters were so realistic and the blood that came out looked like their arm was a water faucet.. This is why you should stick to the genesis version... but hey, who am I to judge? You could record the movie and then just edit in the water fountain blood later.... or get a mouse pointer that is animated blood and just move it around while the game's going... it'd be the same thing lol

i choose #1. you could have a really close and epic 2p battle as a bonus. make it really close to keep the viewer guessing who will win. you can also pull of any combo you want.

This will take quite a bit of planning but I'm eager to do it I just need more votes for it, for my (and your) benefit.

1) What the hell does this have to do with anything? 2) It surprised me how many people thought the Genesis version of MK1 was better because of blood. Kind of sad. The SNES has better graphics, better sound, and better control, and the Genesis has blood. I personally don't care about Smoke, but if you're going to fight Jade then you should probably fight Smoke as well. Does it put you at Kintaro afterwards, or just at the next battle?

but what's the point of great graphics if there's no blood in it? i mean, when i uppercut a guy, i wanna see 3 streams of blood popping out randomly out of nowhere... why? it's the american way! and the announcer laughing at the unrealistic blood... also who cares about graphics sound and control when they take the blood out? I suppose I could relate... In Castlevanis IV for SNES, the japanese version has a bloodier stage 8 and it has crosses and blood dripping off the intro..... but the americanized version has a much cooler whip sound, maybe less realistic. You could very well be thinking this way.. But the fact remains that both these games are still ports of an arcade version that had it all... And Between SNES and Genesis, the Genesis one was better cuz it had that way cool code to add blood.it's all like look mom this game isn't violent there's not even blood... and she's like "LOL OKAY SON" shuts the door, you do a soft reset "if one even existed on the genesis" It was a huge controversy that game... OH NO BLOOD... I laughed cuz it just kinda jutted out and wasn't even the right hue for blood, even the arcade version. Oh man they had to have special lock boxes so people wouldn't steal the board for the game at the arcade... those kids loved their mortal kombat... But without blood, you got nuttin

Reading someone's post history is like having their mom show you a picture album of that person in middle school.

Hehe. Funny discussion. And I'd go for blood as well I suppose. I had alot of joy with my Genesis version of the game. I remember how disappointed I were with some fatalities in the SNES version of MK1. Go for Smoke BTW! :)

Damn, Smoke was a BITCH to manipulate but I did kick his ass! I made him look rather foolish but some attacks are repeated because of how much more abuse he can take. Not a lot can be done on him because of his flawless yet flawfilled AI (by flawfilled I mean 'THE' AI as a whole, everyone is manipulatable to a certain extent :) and by flawless I mean he has super speed and reflexes.

Having my victim do a fatality on me is not an option unless you can prove me wrong and if you do then I will probably go back and put it in the movie. I have spent many rerecords on trying different fatalities (I didn't use the actual movie file so don't expect massive rerecords, just thought I point this out for some stupid reason, what the hell time is it anyway? don't answer this) but none of them work but I'm able to get in an uppercut but too bad there is no way I can be in the Dead Pool zone since I'd have to fight player 2 for another fight.

bah... do a friendship or whatever... I forgot that we must wait a while after the "Finish him" message before doing fatalities...

Well, the thing about the waiting for the 'Finish Him' message is that if I used Baraka I can throw my victim and then throw him again before he gets up all the way and still have them able to do something but unfortunately still there is no luck. So... I have already done the two-player segment but I did not see your message before I finished otherwise I think I might have used a friendship, only, the two-player segment would have been cheaper because of less moves being available. With that in mind, there isn't that much of a competition going on in the two-player segment (there is but...) because of how fast paced it is, if you blink you'll miss the 'competition' part (what time is it anyway? Don't Answer This). I'll go back and check and see if I can do anything during the fatality sequence but if nothing works I'll keep what I have because I think what I have is good. Edit: Since I'm done playing the two-player segment I'm able to continue on much quicker. I'll probably be done in a week or so just to give you an estimate but that is if everything is the way I want it to be.

I just finished up the fight before and with Jade. Jade doesn't really allow much to be done to her so I did the best I could (projectiles go right through her which lessens combos).

and now I found out something... you can't do fatalities if your opponent isn't dizzy. That is why it won't work.
