oh..... http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=c75d114ff1820e2e2cd896c041043dd9 i hadn't seen that. but nm, it's too old i've played the 1-1 and 1-2 levels aiming for highest score, and it took 32 more seconds. mainly because of going up to the bonus level and because of more point count. originally i made it in 2:11 but aiming for highest score it went up to 2:43... way too much. so what i'm gonna do is aim for fastest frame time possible, ignore all score issues but will kill as many enemies as possible in most impressive way possible.

Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with avoiding food and not killing enemies. I guess if you don't know this game then you probably don't care, but for those who do this is very impressive. Everyone who's played knows how hard it is when you die and have to go through a tough level with no weapon. Barely making it on food is quite impressive, as are the eggplants. It is neat to see where bonus levels are, but it takes time and gets old fast. I also don't think anyone wants to waste time watching the meters and points count by after levels. If you want to get points, I think you should work it out so you pick up as many flowers as possible, as these are not hidden eggs. With the multiplier upped, the food you do get is going to be big points. Combined with eggplants, you should be able to rack up a pretty nice score. But I do think killing as many enemies as possible while not slowing down would be very interesting. This would require quite a bit of planning, so good luck. Unfortunately, it's not possible to pick up secret eggs on the skateboard without some trick like you did when get fireballs in 1-3. I don't think you should slow down at all, but if you can kill almost all enemies without slowing down at all it is going be good.

I'll be running this old NES game, mostly because it's rather obscure, and that it's never been run before* thus opening the chance for many others to give it a go. I'm half-way through the game currently. Glitches/Bugs/etc: To tell the truth, I can't find any, so I'm going to use only slow-downs and save states. The main problem with the game is that you can't adjust how high you jump, you press A and you've got a set jump path. The only real adjustment is speed and direction (unless you have the skateboard, in which case you can only slow down to about 3 or 5 px a second). Another problem is the skateboard, it doesn't stop, so unless you're in a fairly simple area, I'd say just ditch the board and keep running instead. Usually this speeds up the game and you don't have to stop so often. The only extremely mundane part is the boss, which is a guy that walks pretty far to the left, throws a fireball or two and goes to the right and repeats. This may be done by either tomorrow or Sunday, I'm not entirely sure. Pausing doesn't seem to affect the game at all, so any tricks involving that are out. There are also no level warps, so I'm going to have to do every single level thus making this run fairly long. __ Feel free to discuss the game. * Bad prior knowledge, ignore this. Now this topic is about discussion of the game and improving the run

Oh. ... I look like quite an idiot, I completely failed to see that movie. I may be able to beat this time, though, I'll check the movie out.

One thing to be sure to note is that the movie in question made the run on a bad dump of the Rom. So if you want to try and beat the time of the run yourself make sure you use a GOOD dump of the Rom and save yourself the same trouble. That's probably the only reason that run hasn't been published yet.

I'll make sure to do that. Also, I've found some warps that warp you from section to section thus shortening the time that it takes you to complete each level.

Kinda hard to take the "shortcut" while using the skateboard, but good luck. Even though its a shortcut, i think it is faster to just go under, because theres a really long time needed to get up there. You may want to measure that.

I've done some in depth analysis of how your character's speed works in this game, because I intend to improve the current run! :) Here are my results: I've done a graph that explains how the game calculates your speed when on the skateboard: Perhaps a little confusing, but let me explain: When on ground, every time you advance 1 frame while holding down B+right, the game checks your current speed. If it is less than 80, your speed will increase by 3. So your top speed is 82, you will get this speed by holding down B+right when standing on ground with speed 79. Getting speed 79 isn't trivial, you have to make a jump to get it - when in air, you accelerate/slow down by 1 per frame, so by slowing down to speed 79 right before I hit ground, I'm able to accelerate to speed 82 immediately once I hit the ground. There is no such trick when walking, your top walking speed is 75, which I keep until I get the skateboard. I have made a WIP of the first level. I gained 55 frames on the level (by moving slightly faster), but lost 4 frames after the level due to having more life left. Here is the WIP. And I read something about warps in this game in this post, but I don't know any and no FAQ on GameFAQs tells anything about it either (or perhaps I just missed it). So does anyone here know anything of "warps" in this game? Oh, and with school and all, I don't know when this will be finished, so be patient. :) EDIT: Allright, so I found the "warp" on level 1, the one where you stand between two totems and a cloud takes you up to a bonus level, which dumps you down to section 4 of the level after you're done with the bonus room. Taking the bonus room is about 3 seconds slower than skipping it.

Those warps they were talking about are the little bonus stages with nothing but trampolines and fruits. Once you fal it always will drop you in the same spot later in the level. To get to them you wait in a certain spot for a few seconds, then some clouds take up there. They tend to skip a sizable chunk of a level, but they do take a while to get up there. If you don't know what I'm talking about, if I remember correctly in the 1st level, after you exit the forest, right before the 1st snake you ever see, which should be right before the hill are two totem poles. If you just stand inbetween them you should be able to go there.
I am just a silhouette, a silhouette of a memory of a solitary night .. nothing more.

The first 3 levels are done now, 193 frames faster than the current run. Microstorage seems to be down at the moment, so I'll upload the WIP when it's back up. EDIT: The first 4 levels are done now, so I've done 1 out of 8 areas now! :) Here's the WIP. EDIT2: I'll just continue updating this post with new WIPs until someone stops me. ;) 5 levels done now, 368 frames faster. Here's the new WIP. EDIT3: Area 2 done, so I've done 8 levels now. Currently 540 frames, 9.00 seconds, faster. WIP. EDIT4: 11 levels done now, 840 frames (13.667 sec) ahead of published run. WIP. EDIT5: I don't know if anyone follows this thread, but I'm putting this TAS on hold for now, due to other projects.
