I thought it was a little faster to up+A after getting the ice beam if going to tourian next. Also, did you try to get a green flyier to spawn at the top of the icebeam column so you don't have to wait nearly as long there? I did it before, I think it was from luring the large flying thing back in the ice beam row to the column.

This is a pretty sweet run, refilling went faster than I thought it'd be, I like how the route makes use of a lot of tricky stuff. I think no-miniboss deserves it's own catagory.

What ever happened with the new low% and 100% runs?

I got sucked in to WoW pretty bad for the past few months. I've recently grown bored of it, and haven't been playing it, though. I'd like to do the 100%, but I don't know when/if I'll get back to doing it. I've been designing a website, so much of my time has been going to that, recently. Arc needs to hurry up and finish that any% run. ^^ I can't wait to see it.

I can't you believe you did that run in only 2 days, some nice new stuff in there. I have some questions/comments about a bunch of small stuff I'll try and post it soon. I like the new sig, does this mean you'll be running x-men mutant apocalypse, cause you should?

A VERY long 2 days. I'm guessing 18-20 hours of work. [Edit]I am better through experience, also. Arc and I both came up with some new stuff between my 1-item run and this one. The re-record count is way off in that movie, btw. It should only be around 10,000.[/edit]

I'll post what little I did today, should have more tomorow(or in like 14 hours). Times are given as the apear in avi. 1. 0:27 Could you get energy from this zoomer? 2. 0:37 Is the only you reason you stand still before the skree gets to you, so you can set up the 2 in 1 shot? (that is that what happens right?) 3. 0:38 Does landing on this zoomer (or any other like it) allow you jump lower, or save time from the boost? 4. 0:55 It seems like there’s some slight slow-down at the top of in this jump (and every other one of equal or greater height done with spin-jump (maybe some of slightly lesser height)) I have a theory that this can be reduced or eliminated with non-spin jumps. Can you test it? 5. 1:01 I’m guessing you couldn’t handle this ripper like you did the first one? Could jumping lower and landing on it save time? 6. 1:16 I was wondering if you could save time by falling left of the platform you run across before falling, as to spend less time running on platforms, doing this strat you have a number of options, which I could elaborate more on. 7. 1:17 In this shaft (and ones like it), could stunning a zoomer that’s going to walk down help reduce lag? 8. 1:37 Would going through the top two blocks help, so the zoomer would be lower, or maybe you’d have hit the top block too much and/or roll out?

Not without slowing down. If I shoot one frame later I will either hit the door, or miss the zoomer. I forget which one was the reason I didn't get energy. I think I wound up missing the zoomer, but I'm not sure.

I stand still, because the screen must not scroll before both are dead. If the screen scrolls, there is a zoomer by / in the tunnel (depends if none or one are dead when screen is scrolled).
Spider-Waffle wrote:

It only saves time if the zoomer is traveling in the same direction as you.

I'll test it if I do another Metroid run. ^^

You can only sneak past the first ripper. On the others, if you try to go in-between them and the platform, you take damage 1-2 frames too early, and can't make the jump.

As far as I know, this is the only path you can take to not have to hit extra platforms on the way down, although I didn't test. Looking at it more closely, it looks like I would hit that 2nd zoomer or the ripper.
Spider-Waffle wrote:

I that would put even one more object on the screen (shot) possibly causing even more lag. I tested this when going up the shaft from Kraid's lair. I previously killed 2 zoomers to reduce lag, but it turns out the shots create even more lag.
Spider-Waffle wrote:

I don't lose any time there. My foot is actually going through the zoomer, because of shooting it. Jumping higher would make the first jump higher (slower), and the 2nd jump waste height (slower). Rolling wastes 4-6 frames, due to stopping to morph.

5. Could jumping lower and landing on it save time? 6. 2nd zoomer? I was thinking falling past the first 5 platforms and landing on the 6th as far right as possible, if the zoomer on it is a problem, maybe killing the purple zoomer at the top could help. Now when I look at it, since you fall so much slower for the first 3 blocks or so, you land pretty far right on the first platform anyway. 7. I know it’s an extra object, but I was thinking maybe it could done such that the shot wouldn’t put the game over the threshold ie when there aren’t many objects on the screen, and then later when there become more it would help. 8. Ok, that’s what I thought, it was just that it seemed like the 2nd jump was higher than was needed to reach the MP.

You can't make the jump that way. Trust me. When recording, every frame before the one that works hits the ripper. Not once does it push me up to the platform.

I'm still not sure what you mean. I picture would help a lot.

6. 7. If it's going to be walking down at the point where the screen scrolls off of it, it would be reduce the time it spends walking down and thus be on your screen shorter, since the screen is scrolling down. Same princible would apply for left, right and up. I've always wondered why in lots of the metroid videos you turn back and forth really fast while moving forward at some points, this is most noticeble right after entering the top row of brinstar. Is this to affect "random" factors?

Ok, I understand. I'll test out 6 and 7 if I ever make a new run.

Wobbling slows your movement very slightly. I use it if I need to slow down just a little bit for something, but not enough to stop, since stopping is significantly slower. In the last Brinstar room, it is used to let the zoomer get to the edge of the screen before it starts scrolling, so that it will start walking towards you, letting you jump a lot lower to clear it.

I tested 6 and 7. New path saves 3 frames. Shooting a very close zoomer saves 2 frames, but only when shot on a particular frame. Shooting zoomers that are far away causes more lag, and wastes frames. Movie

That looks awsome, does this mean your going to be doing another run soon, if so I'll try and scrutinise the rest of the last run.

I'm thinking about doing another 1-item run. I'm in Norfair, up 163 frames. I start too many runs and don't finish them, so don't hold me to it. =P [edit]
...I'll try and scrutinise the rest of the last run.
Go for it. =) [edit again]I'm up 283 frames near the end of the multiviola room in Ridley. I've made a mistake, however. I was thinking the enemies in Ridley did 20 damage, when they actually deal 24. I enter Ridley with 36 health. Add another 5 from the free kill off of a pipe in the first horizontal room, and also the 20 from the multiviola I have to kill. That would be 61. I was thinking this would be perfect to take the hit in the multiviola room and the 2 hits I will take from Ridley. I'm going to see if I can pick up the extra health in less time than it takes to avoid the 2nd hit from Ridley.

Here’s what I got for Norfair. These are just ideas, I don’t know if they’ll actually save time. First row: 1. Doing the ball rolling technique instead of jumping over most gaps. 2. Stunning the purple flyer to keep him off your screen longer. 3. Stunning the 2 lava jumpers when it’s just you and them on the screen so they won’t appear later, or do so for less time on the second jump. Right most column: 4. Can’t remember if this works, but go in ball form while waiting on the door to bring the screen down so the top ripper won’t be on it. 5. While falling, don’t come out of ball form until your ready to shoot the door since this slows your vertical progress. Second row: 6. With the encounter with the last purple flyer, go into ball form instead of jumping off the platform and then jump later so you can go under him and spend less time in the air.

You posted while I was editing my last post. =P 1. Already done, saves 1-2 frames per gap. 2. I do this in the horizontal room right before Ridley's lair. I'll try it in the other one. It looks like it might knock it off screen sooner. 3. Purple lava hoppers are invulnerable to everything except ice beam freeze. 4. I have a better solution. =) 5. I must unmorph to clear one of the platforms. No other way to make it without bouncing. 6. I can't clear that gap with an unmorph. I've already manipulated its flight to be more friendly, plus I shoot it so I jump even less. I guess I might as well post my progress. http://www.jx3.net/tdg/Zoi/metroid-1item-v2.01-zoi.fcm Slightly off topic: I was exploring secret worlds in Ridley's lair earlier. Nothing useful came of it, but there are some seriously glitched out rooms to be found. I put up a bunch of screenshots: http://www.jx3.net/tdg/Zoi/secretworlds.html

I'm guessing non-spin jumping didn't reduce the slow-down you get after a certain height? Do you know how much time is cost to avoid the Ridley hits, maybe avoiding previous hits would be worth it as well as picking health in other places. After you enter the first door, after doing the door glitch, you have to wait for the screen to scroll up. I was thinking this could be helped my either jumping/bouncing at some place where you need to move horizontally or by falling further you need to since the screen scrolls faster when falling at full speed. Because the platform under the door is fairly wide I think the later is ruled out. So I see only the two places you might want to add a small jump, where you unmorph and have to touch down breifly, and the final platform before you enter the door, the later looking the most promising. *Edit, might want to try this after exiting other vertical columns, I noticed the screen has to scroll down a little even if you didn't do the door glitch*

Thanks! I did some minor testing of the spin vs no-spin jumping, and couldn't tell a difference. I'm guessing the jump to avoid getting hit a second time by Ridley costs around 30 frames. I'd have to sacrifice much more to save the energy lost. There are 3 hits in Brinstar for 8 damage each that aren't absolutely necessary, but would be quite costly to avoid. The multiviola hit is very necessary. I tried shooting the flyer in the first horizontal Norfair room. It saves 6 frames, and I have to shoot it twice. The shots themselves cause quite a bit of lag. Nonetheless I will redo the run from here. I've also found a way to take another 26 frames off of the horizontal bubble room by getting knocked forward by the first dragon's fireball, instead of completely dodging it. It puts me far enough ahead to scroll a crawler off of the screen much sooner. I tested the scrolling on every vertical shafts just now. I can save 8 frames at the end of the door glitch shaft. Anywhere else it only slows me down. Thanks for the help! =)

Your very welcome :) This run is looking so near flawless it's hard to come up with ways that might improve it, your very good at this. As far as getting more health I think your best option(s) might be the first 2 pipe bugs in Ridley's hideout, and maybe this idea: The thick purple bar is where you would kill the crawler. I don't know if it's worth going back to, but stunning the zoomer by the first MP might reduce lag. *Edit: right before doing the door glitch, some point after you've jumped to kill the crawler, if you go into ball form the screen scrolls down a little bit more.*

After the new hit in Norfair, that will leave me at 3 energy. I would need to pick up 5 more 5 energy drops to take a second hit, so I think that's pretty much out of the question. The lower path to kill that crawler is much slower than the top path. There's no lag at the Missle Tank, so that shouldn't matter.
*Edit: right before doing the door glitch, some point after you've jumped to kill the crawler, if you go into ball form the screen scrolls down a little bit more.*[/edit] I was going to try morphing or jumping there, but thanks for the reminder.
