Man, that brings back good memories. It's looking good! Thanks a bunch for doing this run suited. It's going to look good on the DVD I'm burning of the Metroid games. Now if only someone would do a full version of Metroid 2................. ;)

Here's what I've done so far. I was faster in every room compared to the current 100% run, and I'm about 194 frames ahead at this point. But when compared to the any% run, I lost 12 frames due the randomness in those 3 rooms, so I'm only 54 frames ahead of the any% run at this point. I'll see if I can somehow manipulate the enemies better or something, but later.

After severe amount of testing and some unsatisfying results (that did look quite promising at first), I can confirm that the present route through the third room is the best time-wise. Damn, I seriously hoped to improve it somehow… :\

On the other hand, this is what I achieved after some additional testing. This is surely the fastest way through this room now. With nearly a thousand of rerecords, proceeding to the next one. :D

Haven't seen that one yet, though I probably will tonight.

I've put it on hold, and will restart it upon resuming. I wasn't too familiar with neither the game's physics nor memory watch so the beginning could've been improved despite being optimized a bit more than the any%. Also, I will try some randomness manipulation. And Brushy has quit TASing. :<

I look forward to seeing it finished. I've been patiently waiting for a while now to see a suited 100% run. :)

So today I was watching the Any % run again, and afterwards I looked at the Metroid tricks page. I had to wonder why the movie didn't do this: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4110/faster_boss_skip.fcm

Because the fastest way of getting missiles is to blast away one boss. :) Edit: And missiles is needed for the last boss.

I'm referring to using the morph jump instead of freezing the enemy and waiting for an eternity for it to unfreeze.

hmm, I had no idea that trick could work through any floor. I wonder if this can be used in more places.

I love that this discussion is once again at the very top of all topics. Hopefully someone will dig into this and once again explore the games boundaries to provide us with yet another splendid TAS. :)

Moozooh promised to work on this after he completes his Super Metroid runs, so after a long while :P

does anyone know what happens when you try that morph jump trick into a section of floor that's more than 1 block thick?

Your head will go 1 block into the ceiling, then you'll fall back down.

Ya, that what happens to me too, darn, I would have done big things with that if you could get inside the blocks. I've found you can save some time when doing the door glitch to go down, you don't have to go until your visible, you can fall out one unit before your visible. This means you don't have to go untill your above the platform that sticks out from the left wall; instead you can fall out of the wall under it. I still think there's more potential with the door glitch, I've found out a lot stuff about it, I can do a lot of things I don't think anyone else knows about.

My question is, what exactly happens to Samus before she re-appears back at the bottom of the screen? If you escape from the wall before then, you can still scroll the screen and get hit by stuff. I have reason to believe that Samus becomes invisible in some form but is still subject to the collision detection on the current page. Here are some GG cheat codes that I use to explore wall glitches: SSAEAI EEXTTY KAPGEI - Forgot what these do individually, but they allow space jumping, ignore collision while jumping, and allow morph ball to wiggle through floors. You can use these to see which rooms scroll vertically and horizontally, and explore some freaky secret worlds. ALLGKP - Gives you Narpa's Sword in the middle of the game if you don't have it enabled, but you can't turn it off again. Edit: Hmm, I think I just found something interesting. If you use these codes, you can jump inside of a wall and make a door take you to the room on the other side of the screen. If there's a way to give you just the slightest little sideways boost when inside a wall, I think this could be possible to perform. If this were possible, you could bypass the red door in Kraid and go straight for the boss, skipping the missile tank.

I've already said I've been to kraid without missiles, you just warp down into the red door and get hit by the flying bug, knocks in you. It could be good on a non up+A run, but I don't know if you can beat kraid without freeze beam.

It's hard to say where samus is when you can't see her. You can see the flying bugs raise their height as you go higher then at some point they start moving at the bottom of the screen, at which point you are at the very bottom the screen, if you go up a little more you can see yourself.

You can monitor her X/Y coordinates in the game's RAM.
