Yeah, I'm pretty sure 100% would mean you pick up every beam/e-tank, even if you can't you them...

IIRC in this game and in the second there are also extra E-tanks and missile tanks.
There are eight Energy Tanks to be found, but you can only hold six. There are twenty-one Missile Tanks which give you five missiles each, plus you get seventy-five for defeating Kraid and Ridley, respectively. That's a total of 255, which is the maximum allowed. So there are no "extra" Missile Tanks. SO 100% means: -killing Kraid and Ridley (150 missiles) -finding twenty-one Missile Tanks (105 missiles) -getting all eight Energy Tanks -getting Ice Beam, Wave Beam, and then the second Ice beam -all the other items (Maru Mari, Bombs, Long Beam, High Jump, Varia, Screw Attack)

Actually, doesn't Metroid have the Up+A trick like Zelda? Only problem is it's not a straight "continue" option, you'll have to enter a password which will take a few seconds.

You dont have to enter the password. Just Press Start and the game will continue from the stage beginning. I just tested it :) it could save a lot of time to die. Eg after optaining ICE to restart from the beginning and the lava at Kraid. It could be 30-60 sec of improvment. I dont know

Well, this is interesting. Here's the deal: Press START on controller one (pauses game), press Up+A on controller two, press START on controller one. This will warp you back to the last elevator you took or the first screen if you haven't taken an elevator yet. Up side: this could save a lot of time backtracking. Down side: It resets your life to 30 with no reserve. In a time attack, this could be a huge time saver. For example, in Arc's current fast-as-possible run, he could use this trick twice to his advantage, once after grabbing the ice beam and again after defeating Kraid. EDIT: Maybe even after grabbing the Maru Mari? Now that's nitpicking!

*is reminded of the use of fast-quit right after getting the wooden sword at the beginning of the Zelda vids* That life reset, though...might cause the player to need an energy refill or two. The Rinkas in Tourian already do 30 damage a hit, and there's that one door at the start where you pretty much get hit no matter what (at least in the current video)...

He doesn't get hit too many times, though, does he? It's been a while since I've seeen it. I would think it would still be a big time saver even if he has to get some energy refills along the way.

Yeah, I suppose you'd have to use the energy tank in the ceiling near the beginning after one of the restarts.

The life reset might create a need for more killing of enemies. But the time saved in UP+A should more than make up for it.

1. The door glitch route, if it works at all, is still not much more impressive than e.g. beating Zelda 3 in three minutes via glitch. 2. Restarting is intentionally avoided because it is less entertaining, ruins the flow, and becomes an excuse for the excellent time of the movie. 3. A precise 100% timeattack would take a really long time to make. I will improve my current timeattack if actual mistakes are discovered.

We don't need it to be precise, just up to your usual standard. (joking, joking) Seriously though, I understand. Still though, it doesn't hurt to hope somebody will eventually undertake this challenge.

Hm...is the Up+A accepted in the Metroid community like it is in the Zelda community? I'd definitely like to see a movie utilizing this trick, but then I'm just all about finding the fastest possible time with tricks available. Witness said Zelda games, and the Blaster Master movie where the guy continues 4 times. *shrug* -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

at least if you kill yourself after kraid people wont be left guessing what the crap just happened. if you use the up a trick wont it just look like a teleport? cause that would be hella cheap

I would consider not using the door glitch an actual mistake, like not using a stuck in wall glitch in rock man.

Hi, this is my first post here, but I've lurked here for quite a while. I'm currently working on a 100% run. I'm almost finished. I have 1 missle left to grab on my way out of Kraid's lair, and I have to grab the long beam on my way to Tourian. I'm currently at 36 minutes, and am hoping to finish at around 45 minutes. I believe Red Scarlet's 100% run is 55 minutes, but I'm not certain. I've been working on this for a little over a month. As Arc said, it takes a long time to make a precise run like this. I made an original route, and there should even be a few suprises. I found a really nice shortcut in Norfair that I've never seen or heard of before. I would have posted about this earlier, but I don't have internet access right now. I'm posting this at a friend's house. I'll submit it as soon as it is finished. I hope you guys will like it.

Are you using the UP+A trick? Or just playing straight through?

I finally finished it today. I submitted it a few minutes ago. I beat my own expectations and finished in 41:43! Tourian was really hard, especially Mother Brain's room, but I think I did good. This is played straight through, no UP+A. I may make another version using UP+A. I figure I could shave 5-10 minutes off using it. Enjoy =)

Just finnished watching the movie. I can just go WOHAAAOOOIII!!! Damn you show off some nice glitches. :D Really enjoyed Tourian. And that bubble world which I can never remember the name of. Hehe.. The whole movie was great. Think it can be improved further? Shiat.. Don't know what to say. Damn fine work of art you've got there atleast. How long has the work taken you? *giving standing ovations* Hehe.. My eyes are bleeding I think. It's kinda late.. Or early, depending on how you see it. Half past 3 in the night. :D Feels sad that the movie ends in a way. I really enjoyed all the tricks and the game play. It was very entertaining. Think I'm writing the same stuff all over again. All creds goes to you. Good night! :D

It is marvelous; it is wonderful. I see a couple of small improvements that could be made to mine (that aren't due to the luxury of extra energy and the hi-jump boots.) However I think that a few rooms may be a little bit sub-optimal, and maybe game lag could be improved in a few spots. But I'm not completely certain about either yet. Overall you are great. ---- Edit: There were two rooms in particular that I compared against mine because I know that they were tough to optimize: 1. In Kraid's Lair, the violet room with a lot of enemies 2 rooms over from Kraid. 2. The zigzag shaft in Tourian. Both of those were too slow. I also spot some really small errors in various places. But it is mostly incredible. ----

Good stuff. Although I find the overly use of "OMG I PRAISE YOU WITH MY SALVATION!!!!" "SHITSHITSHIT OMG YOU RULE" and other crap from the guys around here annoying. I bet you'd stay calmer if a guy would submit it -- haven't you ever seen a girl being good at games before or something? (Not saying that there's a lot of skill involved in the making of this movie, nor am I saying that there isn't any) Anyway, relaxing and great run. Peace,
