First off I would like say Zoizite's run was really well made and planed and I enjoyed it greatly, I liked the good use of the door glitch, I was going to see if I couldn't find any other places it might be able to speed up a 100% run. Secondly, Arc, I think I said already that there's 3 door glitches that could improve your run, 2 can be used together. The route I was thinking that would be fastest would involve glitching down into Kraid's lair right away, then going to the first blue door on the left, going to the left verticle shaft and door glitch up the wall so you can get missles up there, then go back and kill kraid as normal. I had a second way to kill kraid that is much less obvoius it involved going to the room in the bottom left with the secrete passage that Zoizite uses in her run, glitching down and exiting from the door to the right in room below. I only managed to get this glitch to work once, usually it takes me through the door above the room where you start the glitch instead of below. From the fake Kraid passage you go right I and think you might be able to glitch down directly into kraid's room just like I mananged to glitch down from the secret passage room, but I have yet to verify this. If the second way to kraid is even possible I'm not sure if it would be faster; they both seem about the same. The other door glitch that could be used in conconjunction with the early kraid is simply glitching down to get the ice beam, skipping the bombs. It is possible to manipulate the enemies before returning up from the icebeam as to get a green flyer in the above passage and use him to boost up, so you don't have to wait on the block to boost you, I don't know if it can in way that saves time though. Then of coarse you won't have bombs to boost up in the miniboss bridge to Tourian, but I see no reason why the flying guy can't boost you up there when he unfreezes.

Hey, is that why Metroid timeattackers like to turn into a ball before falling down long chutes?
I morph because it reduces the collision size. This allows me to miss platforms I would get stuck on if I didn't morph.

The only thing I didn't understand was the door that was just floating in the air. Where did that come from?
As far as I could tell, it's simply a random graphical glitch. The door wasn't actually there.
4masty wrote:
Yeah, the floating door seems to be related to the palette swap glitch... ...When'd the glitch get triggered, anyway?
The pallete swap occurred because I didn't go back through the bridge room in Norfair. That room, and the bridge room in Brinstar, are what cause the palette swaps in a normal game. I skipped it, so the palettes weren't changed. I would have to repeat the shortcut to fix the palette. -

However I think that a few rooms may be a little bit sub-optimal, and maybe game lag could be improved in a few spots. But I'm not completely certain about either yet.
Yeah, some stuff I know I can improve. Certain things stick out really bad after watching it about 50000 times. I didn't notice either of the ones you mentioned, but I'll watch it again when I get home, and see. Thanks for the comments and criticism. Criticism is always good for making the next attempt better. I don't know when I'll get around to making a new version. This one took me a month and a half, and I'm pretty sick of Metroid at this point. I'm also undecided on whether to keep it a continuous run or using the Up+A trick. I could take off a lot of time if I did, but it might not look as good in the end. There are a few things that I want to improve. There are a few new things I've learned since I started, like how to fire missles with bombs on the screen. When I started, I thought it was impossible, untill I watched Arc's run again when working on Tourian, and I noticed he was firing missles after the bombs when fighting the zeebetites. I also didn't take slowdown into account until after the energy tank behind Ridley when the slowdown was horrible with all those holtzes. I wish there was a way to get the long beam early on, but it's just too far off route. If anyone can help improve my route, it would be very much appreciated. There's still a few places I need to try to do the door trick to shortcut like I did in Norfair. I was just messing around when I found that. It took me a while to figure out how to get it working though. If I just went out the door, the shaft scrolls horizontally. I'm not sure if there are any other places where I can do this, but I'll certainly check. Glad you guys like it. And for the record, I'm not a girl. I'm not Asian either, just in case anyone was wondering. I just happen to be a very big Utada Hikaru fan(4 more days until Exodus!). This is not the first time my avatar has tricked people. ^^ This was a record time for discovering the origin of my nickname, though. Zoi

I've been trying to come up with my own 100% routes using some crazy door glitches and other tricks, most of which I'm not sure if they work. Here's what I came up with for Norfair: http://clan-3v.com/spider/Norfair-SW.JPG If some of these glitches do or don't work some variant of this route above may be possible. (Edit: I checked out almost all the door glitches in this route and none of them worked :( still I have faith that there's a least one more door glitch that can be used :)) http://clan-3v.com/spider/Norfair-5MP-Ice-SW.JPG I found all these metroid maps here: http://www.cheat-database.info/display/family.phtml?select=Metroid

I'm somewhat you suprised you weren't able to door glitch down to get the missle pack after Ridley on 1 of the 3 sets of doors to the right of Ridley. I'm asuming you tried this. I full heartily think the rest your 100% route is optimal, maybe a few door glitches that could save a couple seconds like returning from the first secret in Ridley's lair.

1. Will the A/V desync in Zoizite's movie be fixed? If not then why not?
Eventually yes. But for a while I'll wait for an automatical reason (improved movie) to do that.
I'm resampling it now. From the preview, it looks like it's all in sync now.

I think your definitions are a little off. But I probably fit into whatever category you're thinking of. I'm genderqueer.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

I didn't find anymore door glitches that work in Norfair, so I think that route is optimized, expect for maybe the 5 MP and ice beam part in the top right corner. In Ridley's lair you can do the door glitch to get down after the first secret, I don't know if it's faster though, it would be close. I did manage to door glitch down towrds the bottom MP but it wouldn't let me scroll the screen left or right, it took me to the right side when I ran off the left and vice versa. :(

I know you guys are about bored to death with Metroid runs, but I was thinking it's possible to beat the game with only the Maru Mari using glitches and such. Would anyone like to see a one item run? It would take forever to put together, but I think it would be exciting to watch (there wouldn't physically be time to stop).

How will you get through it without missiles and the ice beam

I thought at least 80 missiles were required to finish the game. Ice would come in handy for the Metroids, but might not be required (and would definitely make Tourian more impressive, especially without the ability to freeze the Rinkas in the MB's room to stand on them and fire).

I could see a time attack bypassing the ice beam, but missles? How else will you destroy the Zebetites and Mother Brain? Harsh Language?

From what I remember hearing, the minimum amount of items is 2(assuming the 75 missiles each you get from killing Kraid and Ridley don't count as items). Red Scarlet put up a technical demonstration of some sort proving that the above was possible.

Yeah, I think you do need 80 missiles...I know MB takes 32 hits...and I think 8 to 12 per Zeebetite, but I don't remember how many there are blocking the way...if there are 4, and they take 12 hits apeice, that would come out to a total of 80... And yes, you don't need the ice beam in Tourian either; its only real use there is to freeze the Metroids, who can all be avoided. (Or bombed off you if you do get caught, but since rerecording is in play here, that likely won't happen...)

Are you sure you can avoid all the metroids without using missiles? You only need 15 missiles since you can go back and refill off a metroid, the MB remembers her damage and the Zs only take 7-8. I already explained this way back.

Well, as expected, Tourian is proving to be impossible. I meant collecting 1 item - the Maru Mari. The missles, I would of course get from the bosses. It can be done, but it's frightfully trying. I can fill up my missles and energy before I get to Tourian from random(ish) enemies, and I only use up 15 on the doors, but the metroids are tough to avoid and energy is scarce. I'll get it, and I hope I don't just break down and grab the ice beam - would be easy as pie if this were a 2 item run.

As stated above. Metroid movies does never get boring. I would very much like to see this being pulled off. I allways like when people tries to make a game harder than it really is. So this would for sure catch my eyes for the ammount of time it takes to run this. Good luck.

Yes, please don't, even with a mega-high rerecord count it would be a hella impressive run, to have just the Maru Mari and missiles. It would be a bit more impressive to be able to do it after beating only Kraid (and thus only having 75 missiles), but I'm thinking that would cut you a bit short on missiles in the final battle room.

That, and I couldn't get there. I'd need to either beat both bosses or have the ice beam and bombs.

Erm.. Why woulden't that be possible Ziplock? You would need to beat both bosses? It is possible to skip over that lava region before the elavator to tourian right? What would you need the bombs or ice weapon for?
