I have been doing this run (on English) and was wondering if someone could find a way to convert or discover how to execute it on the Japanese version as well. Someone went in depth about the trick here http://tasvideos.org/4205S.html but I can't really comprehend or make use of it. Here is an imgur link with what the boxes need to be renamed in the english version below, and the upper case/lower case above of the Japanese version. http://i.imgur.com/qIoxkmK.jpg The whole run can be done and so much faster (for me) in Japanese up to the PC renaming right at the end because the Japanese text input is so much different. If anyone can find a way to get the code to work with the Japanese version I will be so happy :) Thanks to anyone that considers looking into this!

First of all, welcome to the forums! Now, there are problems with the route you chose. The big thing is you can't use it, because the only reason the Coin Case glitch works is because of a translation programming error. Read more about it here. http://forums.glitchcity.info/index.php/topic,6716.0.html The box names are also for RTA gold glitched, which would take longer than the current TAS route (you would need to buy x specials in Goldenrod, use them, go back to goldenrod and then go to the poke center) Running on Japanese Games would take away the entertainment because some people wouldn't understand what the text would say and running Japanese versions for faster text is not a good notion to hold. Also, since Japanese characters have different hex values than the english letters, you would need to write a whole new program.

The human element of the run is far more entertaining than the game itself. If it wasn't for someone lying about their record 40 years ago, I don't think we'd take a second look at this run/game. Meh vote.

As luckytyphlosion mentioned, the whole reason the Coin Case glitch works in the first place is because of a translation error making the Coin Case's text string terminate wrong. There is no known way to do any sort of arbitrary code execution on the Japanese Gen II games.

Though maybe the bad clone/save corruption/map distortion route will work?

It should, as long as the bad clone glitch works. The route depends on getting 30+ Pokemon or so into the party, so that when you try to view their stats page, the game overflows the display into the map data. If it does, it might be a neat idea to have two published runs with completely different yet fastest routes of glitching the game to completion - one with arbitrary code on the EN version, and one with map distortion on the JP version. And finally one "regular" version that bans memory corruption.

I find that kinda pointless, since it's not like the map distortion glitch was exclusive to a region or anything like the glitched pokemon green TAS.
