After many annoyances trying to get this and previous submissions to sync, I've finally fixed it.
I found this game when browsing AVGN videos, and thought it'd make a neat little TAS with it's speed mechanic. It doesn't really have anything in the way of manipulation except for the starting AI positions on the first screen. There's 3 different positions, and it's determined by the frame at which you reset on. There's a 48 frame wait for the game to start, and for every frame you wait to reset, it seems to add 12 frames to your waiting time. Thankfully route planning allowed me to just reset as early as possible.
The actual re-record count is probably somewhere in the 300-500 range as I made multiple movies. Hope you enjoy :)

I like this game. It reminds me of Coin Runners on the SNES battle course in Mario Kart Wii. Aside from that, I was entertained by this run. The character moves fast, there are some close calls with some of the enemies, and it's short enough that I didn't get bored. So my vote is Yes. Also, suggesting this screenshot (frame 1994):

Yes vote, but how do you detrmin the game's end? Does it overflow past that point? Does it loop? Does it just repeat the last level?

It goes back to level 1.

It does loop until you get to a score of 1080 (mid-way through 16th round if you play perfectly), at which point there's a kill screen. I went ahead and stopped on the 5th screen as the 6th is the same as the first, just with one less life.

Sorry but no vote. This game is in my opinion not suited for tasing as I really don't think it takes much effort for a speedrunner do the same.

At least the ET movie used a trick to end the game sooner than intended if I am not misstaken. Again, this run does not exhibit anything in my opinion tas maneuver.

has anyone tried to see if you can manipulate the AI? can you move left then right, or are you stuck going left once you press it? IIRC you can decelerate, but I don’t know if that’d be helpful in a speedrun (or if it’s being used while turning already)

I believe I slow down to manipulate the AI a bit, and I tried turning twice to no avail.

I like the discussions these Atari submissions undergo. "Did you try going left and right" or "try going a bit slower maybe" is a nice change from discussing how best to insert the payload using sprite data or whatever.

A better example would've been either Superman or Myst imo. Also the only thing I believe shouldn't be TAS'd are games that never end (nor have any definable place to loop) or fixed length games.

Space Invaders, SG1000 Galaga, MSX Galaga, A7800 Galaga, A2600 Frogger, MSX Frogger, Coleco Frogger, -insert PAC-MAN here-. I don't see a problem at all.

Honestly, if getting to the killscreen only takes 3 or 4 minutes, then just do it.

When he said "never end nor have any definable place to loop", he meant games that continuously generate new, more difficult content and never loop back to the first level like your examples do. A run of a game like Temple Run, for example, wouldn't be publishable because the game has nothing that can be called an objective ending point.

I feel any game can be TASed. It's all about pushing the game to its limits in whatever way you can (I don't much care about entertainment, sue me). Hell, I've even thought of TASing Phoenix Wright. And RT, I might do that. I guess it would make sense since that's a pseudo-end.

I disagree. Donkey Kong... Then again that has 3 stages and has an ending at the third stage so *goes to a corner*

Well Donkey Kong's killscreen doesn't take 3 minutes to get to

It would be interesting to do all looping games to their killscreen. But that would make for some long and boring movies, so I don't know.

If input would be identical, i see no reason to do more. Anyone who really cares can recreate it themselves from the input file pretty easily. Pathing this seems like an interesting puzzle, yes vote.
