This run is 4090 frames faster than previous, including better EXP route and battle strategies but over half of improvement comes from using different emulator. Also, Bizhawk uses different fps. It results realtime improvement is bigger than that of frames.

Game objectives

  • Emulatior used: Bizhawk 1.6.1
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Manipulates luck
  • Takes damage to save time
Snes9x can't emulate this game, perhaps other SA-1 chip games such as Kirby Super Star. For this game, Snes9x emulates laggier than console everywhere. This makes giving how much I could save in detail much harder.

Tricks

Untimed defend

When enemy's physical attack does more than 10 damage with untimed or no defend, You can move 2 frames faster than doing perfect block. It's useful sometimes to get good rng sometimnes.

Multiple Level up

This game blacks game screen out when someone's level is raised every time. When multiple characters get next level at the same time instead level ups happens individually, It reduces black out and saves time.

Route changes

Most time saver is less lag frames while I didn't change battle strategies or field movement much. I put actual changes briefly.

Kero Sewer

Cut Kerokerocola freebie in Belome. It's turned out to be unnecessary for selling. Freebie text takes 30 frames.

Forest Maze

In Bowyer screen, Go straight right and straight instead just going straight. This changes Mario's position in Bowyer's cutscene, It reduces Mario's walking distance. It saves a few frames.

Booster Tower

Reverted old strategy in Booster fight, Masher is faster than Rock Candy by much but I couldn't beat booster by masher fast enough (It was only 40 frames faster) and couldn't avoid getting mushroom either (This mushroom makes some battles slow, I'll explain later). So I used Rock Candy instead of Masher.

Sea

Got 8 exp from star. The purpose is to perform level up trick. I saved time with this trick in Land's end during Shogun fights, Bean Valley after Megasmilax and Factory

Sunken Ship

Gave Geno Attack at Level 8. I gave him Special in previous run but it was silly mistake :p

Seaside Town

Thanks to cut Mushroom in Booster fight, I didn't need to turn item page twice in Yaridvich. 1 page turns costs me 20 frames.

Land's End(1)

Cut a item page turns in Belome.

Land's End(2)

On the way to go to Scale to Chiff, there is a small room which has empty chest and trampoline. I could jump earlier and get on trampoline by going down for a moment then going straight.

Bean Valley

Peach wasn't needed after killing all smilaxes because she couldn't do enough damage. Luckily 2 smilaxes killed her and Bowser dodged Petal Storm, It's faster than her alive.

Barrel Volcano

Changed killing enemy pattern by star. I did lava glitch but it's slower than just running to go loading area sadly. I couldn't time to kill magmus (small brown enemy).

Bowser's Keep

Cool coin jumping in ball room.

Factory

In Count Down fight, I skipped his only attack by Ding-A-Ling's Time advance move. I skipped Count Down and Ling's attacks in the end. It saves 5 seconds at least.
In Mad Adder fight, Bowser just used Rock Candy twice instead 1 Rock and 1 physical attack. His physical attack animation is longer than Toadstool's.
Going straight after Clerk fight is faster than manipulating mario's position to make Mallow's walking distance shorter. It's surprised me.
In Director fight, Toadstool's final blow changed to untimed. I could cut her attack if Masher rng was kind to me though...
In Smithy head part, I cut Bowser's timed attack twice (changed to 2 untimed attacks) and unnecessary head change at the end of battle.

Thanks to

Cyghfer for finding coin jumping. Ball room is coolest room now.

It's very impressive how you keep returning to this game for improvements, even when they are small ones. The ball room in Bowser's Castle is definitely the most obvious change for me. Nice job!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

ζ*'ヮ')ζ Thanks for watching/voting and posting comment, everyone. I'd say I'm done for any% now. Because I fixed mistakes, find better strategies and movements that I can think of. I can't find any improvements except very small potential improvements and getting good RNG. My next smrpg TAS will be 100%. I've finished 100% on snes9x for a while but I won't submit it.

What is defined as 100% Mario RPG anyway? All items, battles, frog coins, hidden item boxes, and level 30 for everyone?

I finished watching this on emulator. It was first time to watch the whole SMRPG movie throughly and I must say I'm impressed. Great work with battle luck manipulation and careful plan of grinding. I wasn't aware of this until today. Someone must have had an affection for '70s martial art movies, huh.
