I am going to rest now. It has been a very, very long road getting here. As noted, not everything worked, but I'd like to think that I made it look like it succeeded more or less completely. We may yet have an opportunity to do what we really wanted to do, so stay tuned.
I do want to again thank Ilari, p4plus2, micro500, Masterjun, TheAxeMan, true, twm, Nach, Weatherton, Tompa, ais523, and a handful of other people I'm definitely forgetting. Without all of that help there is no way that what we did could have ever been possible. I know I put in countless late nights and put in a heck of a lot of work in the last few days and I know a lot of these guys did too, and they have my thanks.
But, as I was saying, I'm going to rest for a bit. I'll be back online sometime later this week. Thanks again!
Amazing job! I just skimmed through the VOD since I wasn't able to watch it all live!
It didn't seem like my raffle prize was added to the list (even though it got approved BOO!) SadFace.
Blown away by Pokemon Plays Twitch!
I read in Ars Technica that a special version of SMB ported to work on the SNES was programmed into SMW via the ACE exploit; it would be nice to see the .smc file, but because it's a derivative work I'm not sure it would actually be distributed on this forum.
it's been a hectic week, a tree fell on our house and it was a bit of a mess there for a while
Wow, actually the same happened to me few month ago when I got very busy. I guess the Moore's law alway strike at the worst moment :p
But you guys still manage to show off a great performance, keep it up!
Great job with the presentation, and thanks for representing our site! I was also blown away by the new SMW total control and the concluding triple total control.
Damnit, I wish I could’ve watched it live. I barely stayed awake through the DKR race.
Edit: watched the VOD, it was pretty cool. I wonder what the heck was supposed to happen at the end though…
Edit2: I guess the Ars Technica article explains that.
Just read through this entire thread, and I just want to say: Thank you so much Dwango, not only for leading this monumental effort, but for posting such thorough updates. It was fascinating to see all the hurdles that had to be overcome for such a miracle to transpire :)
A warb degombs the brangy. Your gitch zanks and leils the warb.

Had trouble watching it live due to connection issues, but got to see the highlights and it was absolutely amazing! And just watched the full VOD now. :)

And to see how crazy Twitch chat became during our segment:

Also, I should thank my wife asassyknitter and my entire family for their support. I spent many late nights away from my wife and kids doing everything from creating the Pokemon Red TAS to console verification to creating emote graphics and I'm very thankful for their patience. I'm taking a break for the day but I'll be back on later this week. Thank you everyone for the kind words and support - it really helps! :)
man, i just watched the VOD and you did it again, you managed to make it even more impressive than last year, even after 10 year of seeing TASes you still manage to impress me ! It's just hearthbteaking that i could not watch it live (this year schedule is really harsh on europeans)
thanks you for your performance, you really did great !
PS : loved the "I love my wife " Tshirt

Absolutely fantastic job from everyone involved. One of the most impressive and creative displays I've seen in the decade I've been here!
If you can do something insane for next year like get a full OS running on an N64, then we may have to declare Total Control a "solved problem" :)
Are the SMW and Pokemon Red AGDQ TASes being submitted officially to the site this time around? I'm sure no one would object to them obsoleting a technically shorter run.
Apologies if this question is cutting into anyone's downtime as I know TASbot AGDQ was a monumental effort and a lot of people are taking breaks.

I'm going to flat out write the word no for this one, due to the fact it's a "triple total control" on the Game, Super Game Boy and the Console itself.
The fact that this also uses the Apple a Linux System to connect to the internet too, just kinda makes it blow for a Total Control.
Edit: Sorry for the OS mistake, read that from an article (which has been corrected)

Take note, I didn't get a chance to say it, but as you might expect from me (the President of the North Bay Linux User's Group over at http://nblug.org), I'm not running OS X on that Apple product. I run Linux Mint, and the entire toolchain from lsnes through the IRC interface through the Python script to the replay board ran in Linux.
Also, take note that I agree with the general sentiment - this total control effort was very much designed to blow people's minds at AGDQ; it was not designed to be the fastest at anything. The inputs for the Pokemon Red movie were very conservative, to the point of adding nearly a minute to the movie; this had to do with the 56/57 frame clock skew. This could have been tightened up at the risk of going insane trying to synchronize between the emulator and the real console so the input is effectively always pressing buttons for two frames to ensure we never miss a button press and the same movie up to Stage 2 payload will sync. And even then, I still had to modify the dumped .r16m file by 7 frames to counteract emulation inaccuracies. This is in no way a fastest of anything and should not be submitted as a normal run, but I have no opposition to it being considered a playaround.

It is official, there could be a Pokemon Plays Twitch, part 2:

It's a $30k goal. That's a tall order, but I think it can happen. And I think we can make it even more awesome.

The video is up. I need Nach to make it public. Also, maybe another thumbnail would be better.
EDIT: there's also a typo: inception!

No.
You can watch the SMW TASs from userfiles.
You can read my description for why I'm not submitting it.
As for Pokémon Red, the TAS turns the game into a notepad program where future input presses display the text on the page. The text can be anything, and can be scripted from any source able to produce button presses, including live feeds from IRC or elsewhere. There is no recording of that, nor is any such recording meaningful.

Well done, everyone!
And thanks for all the time you've spent preparing for this occasion, dwangoAC. I didn't think previously that my Pokemon notes would have been of any real use.

Why is boring video title so much better than a memetic one?

Titles need to be descriptive.
Any other content you want to write up can be added to the description.

When a user searches for something, he can only see titles, as well as when related videos are showing up on the right. So putting more relevant info into titles matters. And judging by the reaction to what tasbot did, using those memetic terms would be the best title. Not sure "Mario inside Mario inception" is so memetic, but it's funny, and it was voiced by the announcer right after the run. "Pokemon plays twitch" is something not needing explanation at all I think. The descriptive part I simply put in the end. So now it's boring, and not any more descriptive than before.

Thanks for the explanations everyone; makes sense. Although I was vaguely looking forward to being able to read complicated explanations and submission texts of how everything got to work. For example, I recall Masterjun mentioning that they tried doing SMW-SMB1 in 2014, but there was some memory(?) limitation on how much code could be pumped in. How was that overcome?
