Jumpman is out to save Pauline from younger Cranky Kong, who is still whisking off maidens and throwing barrels around the place seven days a week, again.
This homebrew remake of the first Mario game has Factory as the second level(50m), which is removed from NES Donkey Kong.
feos: There is a movie rule about hacks/homebrews. It says: "We don't allow hacks that only serve to change the looks of the original game. Hacks must provide unique gameplay." This homebrew is a good one, it adds a nice SNES touch to the old classics, but it's the only thing it does. Had it been an official port, we'd likely accept it. But this one I have to reject.
If you're looking for a DK version to TAS, the NES one already having a run, you might try out how MAME-rr works, it must be possible to make such a run on it.
feos: Unrejecting, in order to apply the specific Vault rule.
feos: This is a Vault game, so it needs to be a quality homebrew with reasonable notability. While notability is not easy to define, and this game has some level of it, the most important thing is the spirit of the law: we have the rule so that bad or meaningless homebrew games aren't accepted. This one is neither bad, nor meaningless, it's a nice port imitating the SNES style. It also is technically optimized. Accepting to Vault.
Spikestuff: HA~! I knew this was an acceptable game. Publishing.
Now I'm wondering can someone just port the game to another console or pc without changing the graphics, and say add a single room and say its a completely different game lol
What are you trying to say and how does it make official ports unacceptable (all of a sudden)?

This seems to be a case where it's still a work in progress and should have been posted to the game thread instead of to the Workbench. If we can figure out how to manipulate the 5th barrel so that it rolls down the broken ladder, then stage 1 can be further improved. I had gotten bonus 3300 once, but I can't replicate it from a clean start (I had died at least once, probably twice)
Also: Movie file should end as soon as you break the last block in stage 4 (frame 8052 of the submission file, 7980 of the corrected file); check your bizhawk settings to make sure you're not skipping over lag frames during frame advance.
Now as I unrejected it, can we discuss these points further?

But he uploaded an improvement (was it not just removing blank frames?), however this improvement's optimality is what I want to discuss now.

2^3 Things.
1 - 8050 was the old one (excluding blanks), it's now 7978
2 - You're good at checking things >.> (This is sarcasm)
3 - Muffins.
4 - Yes, it's an update. Why didn't you validate this?
5 - Did I really have to make you state that point?
6 - Are you making me pull your teeth?
7 - WHY ARE YOU BEING EVIL!?
8 - This point is just here to make what I wrote not make sense anymore.

I'd still say it should be rejected for the dual reasons of not being particularly notable and the hack itself doing a poor job of reaching its goal of being a direct SNES re-creation of Donkey Kong.
I mean if someone upgraded Pac Man's graphics but made the ghosts move at half the speed, or made them each exit the box 5-10 seconds later, would that really be a good port of Pac Man? It's really weird to me that it's in a seemingly stable state WITHOUT that addressed/fixed.
I guess since it's open source someone could fix that, but that's neither here nor there.

We're going to need notability merits here.

I would say a near 30k download count, along with getting a number of blog posts/forum threads/reviews/etc for it when googling it, counts as notable enough.

I just went through all the current movie and couldn't improve anything. You spawned some random passages, but never answered the question about whether he fixed the ladders or not. He did.

Psycho Waluigi also is natively made for Windows and isn't simply a remake of an older game.
This Gruefooded run is for a homebrew port of an arcade game, and the port itself has drawn negative feedback from our community for being, for lack of a better phrase, defanged.

It's interesting, even after unrejecting, all I can see in this thread regarding how worthy the game is is uncertainty. A handful of people think it's a decent game (and popular "enough"), some think it's not. Yes, we have people out there that like it, it is known, but I don't think it fits into what we want from a game and a TAS of it, especially having people looking at the original and preferring it.
My personal opinion is that it's decent and known, and has something one may like, but while being known, it doesn't actually look unique and notable. If no new people appear who still think it is, I'll reject it in a few days.
Senior Judge thinking it is notable is another issue. Should I blindly rely on that?

Notability is a subjective matter, so you should never blindly rely on anything any single person says, including me.
I would say you definitely should take what I wrote into consideration though, as well as the reasoning behind it. (This applies to other people's statements as well, of course)

I skipped reading after the ridiculous "notability" posts.
So what I see is a remake of a fairly famous NES game to represent the same gameplay style with different visuals/audio. TASing wise (not accounting the extra level that's actually part of the original DK game) it's nearly the same except missing ladder wrap around.
Now look at my Alter Ego speedrun. The original is made by Denis Grachev for the ZX Spectrum. The NES version is ported by Shiru and his friends which is "nearly" the same apart from:
- better graphics that wasn't possible to achieve on the ZX Spectrum
- transmissions between levels
- reworked level names / fixed typos
- atomic sized differences (some enemies position are 1 tile different between the two versions)
I think I don't need to say that nobody ever heard of Alter Ego here, most importantly about it's NES port.

In this case, something else I would take into account is how notable was the game it recreated.
I think well done recreations in their own right should get extra points for notability. (But do take what Pokota said into account about for lack of a better phrase, defanged.)

Not exactly comparable. While being of the same level of unnotability, no one ever took Alter Ego as a port of something all know. It looked exactly as a brand fresh game. Here, the impression is spoiled by how absurdly famous the original is, hence the fame of the port kind of fades, even if it betters the original by more than in the Alter Ego case. However, I'm not stating any preference here, just the facts how I see them.

Right, as soon as I count your (and turska's) opinion on how the provided data is a proof of notability, I notice people thinking it's not enough.
You know what? This port is better than Alter Ego by all means. It's not some crappy self-made piece of FRENDSHIP we want to avoid publishing. I actually think it deserves being accepted!

I think quality of the game in question, especially in terms of if it's a good port of an existing game or not deserves to be looked at too.
I can agree with it being accepted, but I really think someone should edit the source, turn the difficult way up and make a more exciting TAS.

Shiru is registered here, I think he can add a difficulty level if we ask well :)
