I need help with recording RPG videos, I have two questions that I need help with: 1. How do you deal with the grinding part of RPGs where you need to learn spells, tech, etc.? 2. Should record entire scenarios of RPGs or just you split them apart into separate parts?

These are great questions,i also wonder how people approach this. Some people only do major battles only, but some seem to record all or most gameplay(i'm not sure, only the players themselves could be).
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

Well you can go about this in different ways. Are you playing on console or emulator? You could do it as a longplay, from start to finish in one very long video. Or as a let's play, advancing the game in multiple sittings of anywhere between 6 minutes to 1 hour or so, per part. You could edit your videos to only include interesting parts, have commentary on it, etc. Specifically, you could speed up or cut out grinding parts via editing. Longplay videos are usually without editing or commentary, but it's not like you're making it for the longplay community, so you are free to do whatever. Assuming you go the let's play route, I haven't made any let's plays myself but I think it would be good advice for an RPG or RPG/Adventure type of game to set up a goal for each part, such as "today we're trying to clear this whole map and get ourselves ready for the next map".

I simply record it semi-tool assisted first for an input file, then while playing back the recording, cut off every single part that I think may be "grindy". Probably the worse case scenario is you cut off every single fight, but hey, at least you still manage to show places like where to get spells and treasure. For #2, it depends on how evenly balanced the scenarios are timewise. Sometimes, multiple scenarios fit within 15 minutes, while others can take hours (real time). Once again, if possible, might be worth recording an input file.

Are there examples of this? I know the FF games especially FFVI are particularly grindy and Mother 2/Earthbound is somewhat grindy.

Like, recording as for a let's play? If it's as a let's play just experiment with the cuts and see which one works best for what you're trying to present.

I will that a shot but some games are really grindy and I do not want to bore everyone fast forward cuts.

What I'm planning on doing for FFTA is just showing battles and a clan synopsis page at the tail end (since the battles are kind of the bread and butter of that game). If you'd be more specific about what RPGs you're planning on playing and what the target presentation is I could be more specific with what advice I can give you.

I was planning on doing an playthorugh of Earthbound for some time and I did have an outline at one time but I ended up getting hired at a new job so I had to change my plans. I also wanted to do a playthorugh of the rest of the Earthbound/Mother series as well but I needed to plan those out as I work at my new job for ten hours for four days barring overtime and I am usually to tired to play some games. Basically, I wanted to play the Earthbound.Mother series but I also wanted to move to other RPGs as well. I was planning to to play Mother 2/Earthbound by the seasons where I play Onett in the spring but that plan is out the window now. I also wanted to finish my FFVI and Suepr Mario RPG playthrough that I started but never got around to it.
