Submission Text Full Submission Page
This aims to reach the final credits with the least amount of input needed. This can be achieved by bugging out the demo, and then simply waiting for the game to complete itself.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Bizhawk 2.2.1
  • Reaches final credits
  • Ends movie early

Comments

The demo which plays is not a proper video file, it's effectively its own TAS which plays a specific input in order to produce the demonstration. However, it doesn't update the movie according to the current Input configuration, which means if we change which button does what it results in the demos no longer producing the intended effect.

Application

What does happen, will be standard deaths on most stages, which would otherwise cause you to reset on your current level. The exception here is for the bonus stage "Apu in Agrabah", which upon failing results in it advances you to the next stage instead. You will then find that the next stage the game tries to demo, is not the intended "Agrabah Rooftop", but instead the stage after the previously selected one, IE level 04. This then happens every cycle, such that next time it tries to play the demo input into level 05, then 06, all the way up to the final level. The demo cycle 'completing' the previous Apu level, means that the final level then gets advanced, and 'completed', resulting in the final credits being displayed. These are different from the regular credits which come up while waiting, since they contain the romantic background of both the rug ride and the kiss, and thus is a definite ending.
Sadly though, this takes ~378131 frames, or about 100 minutes. What happens meanwhile is very boring, the only interesting thing would be a graphical glitch at ~271895, which may be a screenshot. At best, this should go in vault as an alternate category, but not to beat the current record.

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: This is a nice glitch demonstration, but it's not really a publishable TAS. There is nothing in this movie that encompasses superhuman gameplay, or even gameplay period. It literally consists just of setting a menu option.
Rejecting due to being a trivial run with no distinguishable tool-assisted gameplay.
DrD2k9: Un-rejecting this and moving to Playground. I feel this run be interesting to some; it also may be considered acceptable as a publishable branch at some point, but I'm not currently going to make that call.
feos: Changed the goal, we have this subset of major skip glitch branches that rely on the demo sequence to complete the game quicker, so it applies here, and it's a little bit more complicated than skipping directly to the ending... quickly.

Congratulations on finding a glitch that turns this game into Barney the Dinosaur.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

waiting for the encode of the seconds or the full 100minutes
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

Has it been discussed before which video has the largest discrepancy between input time : time till game completion? Because this seems like it could be a contender.

Haha, and I thought the Sim City run (~7 minutes input, ~50 minute of gameplay) was long. I look forward to the encoding, great glitch!

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

I agree this shouldn't obsolete the current run - there's a lot of wonderful gameplay in the current run and it would be really dumb if this is the only Aladdin TAS that's considered current Also Flip I can save 1 frame vs your "run" After pressing A to change settings, have 1 empty frame then 1 frame of pressing start (this lets you quit the Options menu with 1 input instead of 2 and therefore saves a frame)

This is a really cool glitch and so simple to set up too! I'm glad it got submitted just so that I got to see it. :) As for publication, I think it boils down to whether "fastest input" and "fastest completion time" mean the same thing for TASVideos for its Vault eligibility. In my opinion, I don't think they should.

I like my Automated TASes like I like my Dinosaur. No Vote with a side of Rejection. Should've submitted this on April Fools. Game ends ~28k frames in which is like just under 8 minutes. (Looking at the updated input Flip provided.) Nevermind. That's the attract credits. An encode is coming.... in 5 years. And 5 years later here's the encode: Link to video Real time isn't accurate for some stupid reason that I don't know why (as I've never dealt with wrong framerates before even though they should be correct in avisynth before). But it's 1:45:10.29 for first frame credits appears. It's only off by ~8 seconds on the timer I have, again don't know why it's like that I did what I personally knew so yeah. The frame timer is correct however.

Yes but it's just the credits without the kiss of Jasmine and this happens only after the time they said :/.

I striked out that comment and corrected myself. Apparently you didn't get the memo even though you did quote my correction which mentioned that I was looking at the attract credits.

This is not an end game glitch, this is a glitch that screws up the demo sequence to make it advance one stage at a time until it plays back the end credits stage. The thing about this is that you aren't playing. The Demo is.

What is game end if not progressing through all the stages and playing the full final cutscene and credits?

Input is reconfigured, messing up the demos. There's a bug in the game that breaks the Abu bonus level demo. Whenever the demo dies during the bonus level, it proceeds to the next level in the main sequence. You can actually do a sped up version of this glitch by pressing start at each demo to skip it until you end up at the Abu demo again.

Neat concept! I'd like this to be (at least) vaulted so I can easily find it when I'm searching for runs of Aladdin.

The Jungle Book is another Virgin Interactive game from the same period. It has a similar glitch, but with far less dramatic results. If you change the difficulty, Mowgli dies during one of the attract mode levels (I think it changes enemy movement speed or something, and there's an enemy he bounces off of above a pit). So far as I can tell, this doesn't influence actual gameplay.

I dug out my Genesis and Aladdin cartridge to give this a shot, sure enough it totally works! I'm going to keep this in my back pocket as a party trick. Now, as a TASVideos submission... I don't see much hope for publication. The content is trivial to reproduce real-time, and the actual game completion time is super long (input time isn't really the deciding factor for movies here). 100+ minutes of demo scenes isn't exactly entertaining either. I like the concept but don't think it'd make for a good publication. Nice job finding the glitch, though.
