Moderator edit: This thread was merged with two other threads on GBA Final Fantasy pack called Dawn of Souls, dated 2006-12-08 and 2008-08-24, respectively. After a brief discussion it was decided that one thread could be used for both games in the pack. Please keep in mind that the merging of threads may have produced some minor continuity side-effects. Original post content below. — moozooh -- I'd like to request a run of this game (Just the FF1 part of it). I would be glad to do it myself but I have never made a video like this before and if it gets made I'd like to see it done well the first time. I do, however, have a very indepth knowledge of playing through the game in the lowest levels and how to beat the bosses in those levels. So I should be able to help anybody who wants to try this. I would think that this would make an entertaining run to watch. This is an entertaining game to play and in this version you can use just about any team to complete the challenge. Unlike in the NES version. I have a FAQ on the game up until the point of class change at gamefaqs and the community at the DoS board (also at gamefaqs) should be able to help figure out how the rng works. I may get around to making one if I get the time to learn how and the time to actually make it. I just thought I would propose the idea first. I'm on the site everyday so I can help with most questions you might have... just not game code questions. But like I said the DoS board knows a lot of the games code.

As this is essentailly the "easy" version of the PSX/WSC port with added semirandom dungeons I don't see why it should be preferred over the NES version.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Also, the NES version is to me more nostalgic and thus I think that should be played ;) Slightly OT: Wren, did you get your name from a book of some kind? =)

Yeah the NES version shows more skill. No question there I wouldn't think. This version is still an entertaining version though. The video could even become an entertainment run... like making it a solo white mage challenge or something like that. The way I see it is this could be a really cool video. Obviously since the NES version is harder that leaves this game open for more variety. I think the NES run was almost forced into a certain team and in this version that isn't the case. I've did a run on the VBA with a white mage in the lowest level with no items used. I would imagine that something like that could be done here. Oh and no I didn't get my name from a book. A Wren is a type of a bird.

I didn't know that. The name "Wren" is used in a fantasy-serie I like, that's why I asked. Cool though.

A single white mage can be done on the NES... you have to go to Level 50 though. Well, you might not have to with luck manipulation. It's possible though.

I began making Final Fantasy 2 (Dawn of souls) timeattack. It's not ff1, but still a good game.

Yeah the DoS version of FF2 is good. It's the only version I could bring myself to finish. As for a solo white mage challenge done on this version it is very possible to do it in the lowest level possible. I have done so. I only used save states and the like... I don't know how to make the game give me criticals and things like that. If I knew more about the game code or even making tool assisted movies I would be all over this game. Sadly, I am just getting into tool movies and am kinda learning the ropes.

Yes, I'm looking forward to it, as well. As for this FF1, it might be interesting in a different way since you can avoid all random encounters (unlike the NES version). Not sure if the randomness in battle is any more malleable than it's NES counterpart, though.

I'd love to see a run on FF2 DoS. :) But whichever you choose, good luck. They're both nice remakes.

I'm trying this. I have never done a movie before so this first run is quite sloppy. But I'm getting somewhat better as it goes along. This is up to defeating Astos. Thank you for taking up this request tafatt. Thank you very much indeed. Seems like you have a great thing going already. Don't really think there is much I can help with but I'll try to answer any questions you might have. Like I said I know a great deal about FF1.

Thanks for the comments. I chose this team because i think it will be the most offensive. Using the temper spell to power up the black belt is my strategy of killing some of the bosses (like on astos). Any advice is welcome. Edit: I have killed the vampire and I'm on my way to the earth rod. File A savestate is included after defeating Astos.

well not much to critique from your movie yet only thing i noticed was in the fight vs the 2 mages in marsh cave u attack for 1 dmg with the monk, defending would be faster right? also you probably checked but its faster to use temper to attack with monk than to use thunder right? thats pretty much it for now..

Yes, that battle could probably have been done better. This is just a sloppy run as none of my battles are optimized. I'll remember that. I played some more. http://www.filespace.org/mb/Dawn_of_Souls.zip Up to obtaining the canoe. 2 savestates, first one after defeating Astos. Second one after leaving the earth cave after getting the ruby.

Wow. Can you tell me how did you avoid random battles? It would be much help for my timeattack.

I avoid battles by waiting a frame before taking a step if the next step would lead to battle.

It sure doesn't work for me. Could you explain it a bit more? Since it is ff2, the trick should work for it too.

I tested it on ff2 but it doesn't work. But you can manipulate to fight less enemies per battle this way.

Maybe I can. But it would be great to avoid every battle I encounter.
