Hmm, i just did it on expert mode used a couple of credits, it was my first try speedrunning it, and took 44 minutes and 24 seconds. Sounds like a lot, but the game is really hard and long, i'm happy with just finishing it and having 3 credits left. At least this one can be used as a basis for planning a timeattack for this game, or anyone else trying to speedrun it. - expert mode - wizard - 44:24 completion time - uses continues :P - http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/kingofdragons-foda-speedrun-v1.zip I think i should have used magic more, especially at the start when wizard's weapon was weaker. Those skeletons took the flesh out of wizard's bones. Should also have grabbed less money, but i was trying to level up. Honestly, i didnt think i would finish the game, as in earlier attempts at expert mode i couldnt finish it. I would really like to see someone trying this game, especially because there's no timeattack yet.

Actually, ideally you would finish this game with exactly 0 credits and 0 lives left. There are so few healing items in the game that it would most definitely save time to die in order to be able to use magic again at some points. I also believe that when you're resurrected you actually hit nearby monsters, but it might just be that you knock them back. Then we get into the magic rock they give you when you use a credit, which can deal massive damage depending on what they send you, and it's clear to me that lives are actually a resource to be spent in this game. Enh. Haven't watched your faster run, but I'm sure the time can be beaten. I just don't have the time to beat it right now. =\

yes it can, this time i didnt move out of my path to get gold. but i still took some time searching for free credits. i used magic on enemies, but for bosses, only the twin cyclops and the gyarados, those were the only bosses i used magic. i'm greadually being more daring because i'm getting better, so now i can do daring stuff. dont forget its expert difficulty.

alright, now the time is 37:01 minutes http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/kingofdragons-foda-speedrun-v3.zip this one i used a lot of magic, completely ignored the treasure chests unless i thought there was food or magic inside (i havent memorized all chests yet, but i got it right most of the time). edit: i'd say that a 2 players tool-assisted timeattack should be 20 minutes long

Looks nice, but sadly I think I'm the only other person here who cares. :( Also, I think a carefully planned 1-player tool-assisted run of this game would be about 30 minutes, a 2-player version would be about 22-24. So your time isn't bad, considering. (Especially since this game is so hard. I honestly don't believe it was intended to be played solo.) I wonder if you can find a rom for the arcade version of this. And if there's any difference between the two.

The differences i noticed on the arcade version: - the graphics are better, duh :) - the characters are bigger on screen, maybe thats why the jumps are shorter - the characters seem to fire at a faster rate - no lag (or almost none) - 3 players - "level up" messages and "1000" and such for scores appear on screen. - you can select (by dip switching) how many lives to start with, and how many you get from scoring, or no extra lives at all. Some faqs (gasp* gamefaqs*) say that the power up chests are in different order, maybe he didnt play the snes version enough to see that even there the power up chests arent in fixed position, so i dont know about that. I like the arcade version better, the only reason i'm doing it here on snes is because of final burn alpha stil not being good for movies.

woah i hadnt played this in such a long time.. i just went through it with archer after seeing you play mage.. are you sure the mage is the fastest to beat it with though? i think in a time attack dwarf + fighter would work well or archer + mage

i think ranged ones will make faster because well you dont have to walk back so much. i use the mage because on the later levels he is so good. i dont know if his magic is more powerfull, but should be.

Actually, I think the ideal two-player setup would be Cleric + Mage. The Cleric levels up ridiculously fast, so he has tons of life to spend on magic, and the Mage's magic is the strongest. The Elf's arrows aren't any more powerful than the Mage's spell shots, but I believe they get weaker the farther they travel, so their range is a moot point. I think a run using the Dwarf would be interesting, simply because I have a hard time finishing normal with him. But that's neither here nor there.

that depends then on what people would like to see. a no damage run or a "use all resources" run. i think its complicated to not do a damage run on the arcade version as you get to choose how many lives to start with. I'd do a no damage, on hardest mode starting with 1 life. But i guess it'd be OK to lose energy by using magic as long as energy is refilled later instead of getting killed.
