remember you can extend your launch speed in air if you whip or use a subweapon as soon you can attack again. you might be able to use the book subweapon to extend it, then jump and you'll get even farther in that room. that is, if you actually have any hearts to use. you could always start a new stomp launch off one of those pike guys, or another candle. you have to press forward for one frame to stop momentum to start a new launch though. otherwise you'll go forward instead.

Oh, was that the problem? I guess I forgot to tell you never press left or right because it kills your momentum when dash jumping, dash launching, kick launching, etc. It's actually a good way to stop a launch if you don't want to overshoot your goal.

Another question for those more educated than I: Is there a good spot to get the holy book back before Max Slimer? I ask because I'm thinking of grabbing the knife, so that it only takes one heart to extend my whiplaunch instead of three.

I'm pretty sure the only other book on your route you get after the Max Slimer fight shortly before the second meeting with death. I guess wait for Kaz to give the definitive answer. If thats true though, you'll most surely save more time keeping the book for a MUCH faster Max Slimer fight with the Gradius Shield than just saving a small amount of time in a few places extending the launch. Edit: Can you manipulate big hearts off like Skeletons and the like?

You can manipulate big hearts off of enemies, but it's usually easier just to take them from candles. There aren't a huge amount of places that are long enough to benefit from using an extra subweapon boost anyway.

Sweet! This may be one of my favorite TASes so far. Keep it up! I love all the whip launching and the aggressive Merman fight. :)

That was pretty epic. +10 to JXQ The only question I would have is pertaining to one area. Right after you first enter Castle B, around frame 14000, you have to ascend some platforms. On one platform, you dash to the left to go up the passable portion of it. I'm wondering if you can maybe go around that ledge on the right to skip the two extra dashes.

Too high, you need the double jump for that.

Yeah, this run is one of the finest examples of good physics engine abuse. Every whip launch is a highlight by itself. :)

Here is one possible time saver. (a small one, but a time saver possibly nonetheless.) What you did could've been faster though, and I doubt you'd want to go back for something that small anyway. Starting launches with the subweapon first is probably better in a lot of other places too if you have the hearts, as it allows more control in air. Edit: Also in the Skeleton Cave when you go through the save room and whip launch there, you could save time if you had a subweapon to use to start the launch. I don't think it matters there though, I don't think there are any subweapons that are in your way before the book. It wouldn't save much time anyway if it does, and I don't want to make you redo all that stuff. :P

There's at least the dagger. JXQ frees it from a candle, but doesn't pick it up. No idea if the dagger makes up for the time needed to pick it up, I didn't watch your movie yet.

While that does save 4 frames, there are other places where a book can save much more. The problem is knowing when it's enough time-saving to warrant a use of the sub-item! It would save more at the save point, since there is more room to take advantage of the increased momentum.

Max Slimer dead. Link updated. OgreSlayeR's book-launch came in handy in the pendulum room.

Looking good. It's cool you can pretty much keep the Gradius Shield up forever like that.

uhhh... I'd like to ask... why didn't you do this? Is sliding faster than that??

Because I'm aiming for fastest time except those two rooms. Sliding is faster than dashing in most cases but whiplaunching in those two spots could have saved me 18 + 10 frames. I didn't think of it because I didn't take into account how high up the two platforms were. Usually that type of whip launch isn't faster than the diving kick. Edit:

That's true, I am awesome. Edit Jr: I also recognized another one of their songs yesterday from my downstairs neighbors just by the bassline. Unfortunately Don't Phunk With My Heart has a much less obvious Castlevania reference. Holy FUCK I'm awesome.

Well, you can always do a V2 later and improve small places like that.

Or I could take the pessimistic approach and say that 30 frames of improvement could easily throw off randomness later and cost me more time than I've saved!

Question: can you somehow decide which "direction" to crouch warp in? Or will I just be warping twice to get from the Cavern to the Entrance?
