MAMEHawk testing CasualPokePlayer ported MAME as a Waterbox core!!! Still Arcades only. If you find a game with buttons not mapped ("!" in input display), tell us the game. Don't unzip or rename ROMs. When using game versions, base ROM is required. Open games consisting of just one file normally. For extra archives and CHD files, create an xml launcher using Tools - Miltidisk Bundler (primary ROM to run should go first) To download, just get latest bizhawk interim : https://gitlab.com/TASVideos/BizHawk/pipelines/master/latest Jobs -> package_devbuild_windows -> Download artifacts button
Old link, in case you want to test something in old MAMEHawk: https://yadi.sk/d/WlZCJqoowndnuw File -> Open Advanced

Just as a note, Service Mode is currently non-functional for replays. Test Case: Tekken 3 (shock) Default: - Difficulty: Medium - Rounds: 2 Input changed it to: - Difficulty Very Hard - Rounds: 1 On playback so far, from what I've noticed: - Hard, 1 Round - Ultra Hard, 1 Round - Easy, 1 Round I've spotted a 3 and 4 round as well when testing as a note, but I didn't document those ones. I'm assuming it's due to the nvram. Oh and Time Crisis has the ! thing in TAStudio. (This probably extends to other light-gun games)

Alright, so far the biggest issue that I have with TAStudio regarding MAMEHawk is Savestates dont always load correctly. They arent always loading the same inputs from previous frames. I had to sometimes delete them by clearing green zones so incorrect data wasnt loaded. This might not be an issue with the core itself but possibly a leftover with the same bug in 2.3.3, but I am not certian. However it's clear that this bug is really bad with this core as of now. There is also a weird static noise that plays when you start up Splatterhouse, This does not happen in MAME-rr when I tested it, I have not tested it with the more recent MAME versions yet. Trying to load movie via File->Movie->Play Movie will make BizHawk freeze entirely and you cant close out of it. most likely not supported yet (was trying to do this to see what the refresh rate of Splatterhouse is). Speaking of Refresh rates, when I posted my WIP to youtube, I noticed it included 2 frames of my encoder logo, even though I used Trim(121, trimFrame) to skip the logo, yet it still showed up. I have a feeling this is due to the refresh rate or something, as Splatterhouse runs at about 60.606 FPS.

Tried with a different game and had no issues. however with Neo Geo (tested with Magician Lord), after awhile the audio for the music just stops playing entirely. If I reload bizhawk it plays like normal, but the constant savestates probably killed the music after awhile. also for Neo Geo, the Service mode settings dont seem to have a default setting. when I reloaded bizhawk and loaded the movie again, the "turn off how to play" option did not go back to being on by default. This tells me that boot up does not have the same settings for each boot up. this might need to be a sync setting or something. EDIT: Just tested Splatterhouse again, the issue I had is no longer there.

Shouldn't we be making a separate thread for this core at this point? EDIT: New Thread was made!

So it seems fixed now. However audio is still cutting out sometimes for Neo Geo. In fact Audio seems to be very strange when loading a state. Like it's delayed from playing the correct areas. I have to assume this is like in some PSX games where audio isnt emulated midi and is just a track. The other issues that are game specific is for Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa. I tried to do a 4 player experimental tas but the game does not load the boss room right after the mini boss of the 1st stage. I tested with 1 player and it seemed to be just fine. Have no idea if this is an emulation issue or a game crash issue.

Would it help if I provided a movie file that produces this crash?

A quick test with a game showed that the input movie file synched. However, once you start AVI dumping that file, it randomly desychs! Out of 5 tests to dump it on 2 different PCs, it desynched 4 out of 5 times.

Why not post the game name and the movie.

I asked to post here because I don't want to be searching through random PM archives just to remember what I want to find.

I guess I might as well post my movie as well so you can check if Cowboys of Moo Mesa is crashing due to MAME's emulation or Bizhawk incorporation: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/62674602339117189 (I used the EAB version btw)

Ok so for some reason when I used a different version of the game that contained more lag (UAB version), the boss room loaded like normal. So it seems like the game didnt expect me to do somthing and it caused a crash. I still think this should be looked into. However I noticed a new issue, audio becomes very out of sync during emulation. The boss's opening line should start playing as soon as the screen is fading in, but in bizhawk it starts once the players spawn. if you pause emulation before the screen starts to appear, the audio is working just fine. THIS IS NOT FIXED WITH ALT SYNC IN AVI DUMPING. here is the movie file to test this with, using the UAB version (ignore the "incorrect hash check" warning when you load this in): http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/62675354724985235

I had exactly the same problem - the audio starts to go way out of sync during gameplay (I experimented with Pit-Fighter). I also tried to record a movie from power-on and the play-back desynced after a minute or so (not sure if this is actually supported yet?).

Well you might not know this, but unlike TASvideos we longplayers are more hesitant to give out our "source" files, as anyone can go and claim it was their recording :) Thats why I sent it to you directly via Discord :)

The reason for that is bad savestate implementation in the MAME driver the game is using. There is nothing that can be done about that unfortunately! However, even if the music or sound breaks during playing, it isnt a problem, as once you dump the movie file to AVI, it wont break :)

Ive already said this isn’t fixed in avi dumping. The only way to “fix” it is by pausing emulation at the specific points where new audio would load. If savestates from MAME are the issue then maybe bizhawk should rely on a different savestate method, rather than the ones in the core.

I assume the alternative would be waterbox, as then the bad savestate implementation per driver doesnt matter anymore. But I guess that will be way more difficult to do.
