Anyone interested in a run of this one?? Is not too long and it's very fast, it's a japanese game so it's got japanese text., doesn't have many though.

I was playing star wars and i thought it would make a great movie. Im not very good at making these movies so i was wondering if anyone was interested. I have what i think would be the fastest route if anyone wants to give it a go. The biggest problem i found was the x-wing stage it is increbly hard even slowed down unless im doing it wrong. What do you think?

I have completed this once at an emulator. And yes, the x-wing stage is incredible hard. Isn´t this game pretty long also? Atleast it is in my memory. I could give it a try if I manage to find a working ROM.

A Star Wars movie has already been submitted by Jackic. It is pending for review. He didn't mention the movie length in the email, so I can't say more.

Actually I think he means the Lucasfilm game, the movie I made was for the famicom game made by Namco that was never released out of Japan.

That´s true. However Dragons Lair is more difficult ;) So Jay, do you know any differences between those games? Or are they completely different games?

i dont know the differences because i never played the japanese version. But if i saw the video or the fmv i would be able to see how different the games are i just played through almost the entire star wars game so its fresh in my memory. is there any way to get fmv that jackic made so i can see the differences?

Never mind i found the japanese rom and they are completly diffrent games. There are no similarities. I think both videos would be interesting to watch.

They are totally different games, actually the Namco game is a totally shameless Alex Kidd in Miracle World rip off XD, they share loads of things in common. Edited, you can give a look to the game here: http://gilgalad.panicus.org/sw.html

Had this game, enjoyed it alot. Would love to see a time attack on it. Didn't find it very hard back in the good old days, but tried it recently on an emu and it was tough lol.

Sounds great. Thought I was gonna play through this game today with help of savestates, but it got boring cause I had to reload all the time because its so difficult. :) Cant believe I managed to complete it when I was younger, but I spent lots of time with it then. :)

It's done with a time of 09:54. It's the USA version.

I messed around with the tie fighter sequence and started improving it. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5666/laughing_gas%2Balden-starwars.fcm It's only the first 10, improved by about 2 seconds. Improvement starts around frame 24000 (everything up to there is laughing_gas's current movie) There is a memory address, 6A07, that counts down how many need to be destroyed to move on; 40 in the first one and 70 in the second. New ones spawn when the current set is destroyed. So to go fast the best strategy is to kill them as quickly as possible. When you push B it always shoots 5 pairs of shots in quick succession, and then you have to wait a bit until you can shoot again. It's unlikely that you can hit both while aiming at one spot, so I move the crosshairs along a line that goes over their initial trajectory, but the opposite direction. The trick iis then to find the earliest frame to fire when both will die (which I got lazy with and used a bot) Anyways, it's very tedious and I may finish it out someday but thought I'd share in case someone else would be inspired ;)
I make a comic with no image files and you should read it. While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free. -Eugene Debs

I started a run of this game a long time ago. The recording has been very halting including a break of 1 year because some enemies weren't moving the way I wanted. So if someone else has begun TASing this game (Randil?:D) or think about doing it you can PM me. Otherwise I will eventually finish the run - hopefully before the end of this year, maybe earlier if there's some interest in this.

Ironically, yes, I have a WIP of this game! (you know me too well). I stopped the WIP at the space shooting section at the end of the game, mostly because I lost interest in the game. So this WIP is almost a complete run of the game. It's been a long time since I worked on the WIP, but I seem to remember I found some nice things. First of all, you'll see that I "stutter drive" with the car, which saves some time. Besides this, it's mostly optimized movements and some new strategies. I think I'm about 15 seconds ahead of the published run. I think you can shave off some more frames from my WIP, thought it's a lot more optimized than the published run. Here's the WIP. To be honest, I don't have much interest in TASing this game, though I can of course answer any questions you have about my WIP, and share the RAM addresses I have:

Wow, that was actually surprising, even though it somehow wasn't:). Thanks for the run, I need to go back and change a thing or two in my own run then. I think this game has quite some TAS potential with its physics that's quite difficult too master. The boring parts are of course the stages when flying in space, but I'll finish this run - some time. Also, expect quite a lot more than a 15 second improvement when it's done:)

<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do
