Yeah, I wonder what weapons he stole to get those colors.
Speaking of which, why does he get rid of all his weapons/upgrades in between each game? Does his hard drive get full or something? By the end of Mega Man 8 he should have at least 50 alternate weapons.

Maybe power-ups decay over time! Or maybe the true ending of Metroid is the one where you only have the ball morph, long beam, and 30 missiles. But then why don't you have even that much in Metroid 3? There was that one Genesis Mega Man game where you can pick your weapons from the first three games, so maybe they all happened in a row fast enough for the weapons not to decay... And I'll bet the Robot Masters just keep stealing his Rush adaptors.

I would bet that every time Dr. Wily is safely behind bars Rockman thinks he can retire and hang up the weapons. I'm sure they'd run out of charge eventually anyway once he stops killing minor badguys for refills. I don't know what X's excuse is.

When Megaman wrecks Wily's lair, wily generates a force field that forces the weapons to be erased/somehow destroyed from Megaman's system. This guess sucks

I guess force fields might help explain why Meggy can't just teleport directly to the boss.

Kinda like how Ness takes away your powers at the end of every level of Altered Beast? EDIT: Separated this from the real topic...we don't want to distract Bisqwit and interfere with his work!

Well, one answer is that there is, indeed, no continuity between the games and they all happen in a separate universe. But that can't possibly be the case for X, since there seems to be an ongoing plot between several of them. (3 directly follows 2, which directly follows 1; 6 happens like 2 weeks after 5.) Also, X needs to explain why he doesn't always keep the armor(s) from the previous game. (He keeps 4's armor for 5 and he keeps the Falcon armor for 6, and then there's the ultimate armor but you can't always get that straight off.) So... I'm going to say that every time he defeats Sigma he gives all the powerups to Douglas (their tech guy) who keeps taking them apart to figure them out (so he can replicate them and actually contribute something to the team for once) and breaking them whilst doing so. I know Douglas doesn't show up in the first three games, but they make it seem as if the team's always been that way so I'm going to also put forth the supposition that there's no continuity between the first 3 games and the next 5. (Especially since they say that X is going to kill Zero some day at the end of 3, which you know they're never going to do.) Yes, I just came up with a somewhat complex theory to explain why X isn't uber-powerful at the beginning of every game. So shoot me.

According to the manga (and, apparently, X5) the armors are destroyed during the battles with Sgma. But there's also a 4koma manga which said that X returns the armor to the capsules, trusting in Dr. Right to return them if he'll need them again, because he thinks that having too much power will desensitize him.

I doubt this would be true, because X starts with the falcon armor in X6.

Maybe Acapella his pet robo-ferret runs off with them after each mission and he can't find them before he needs them again. <>_>> <<_<>

Maybe Capcom gets rid of the weapons because if you didn't have to defeat the new bosses to get their weapons it wouldn't be a Mega Man game. Just a hunch.

Yeah, it would be too easy if you had too many weapons

It was made around X3 if I remember correctly. Anyway the carryover armors in X5 and X6 are Alia's doing.

OK, so we have some working theories for X but not much for Mega Man/Rockman. My new guess is that he deactivates his weapons after defeating Dr. Wily each time, sincerely believing that this time, Wily is finished. Reminds of that Dark Helmet line from Spaceballs: "That is why evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

Yeah, he wouldn't want to accidentally change colors when he's supposed to be a civilian!

I have too much respect for Megaman to believe that he's that gullible. Maybe they've got a contract going. Wily keeps creating disorder and running amock and Megaman goes and "stops" him. After each wave, he gets reward money from the earth he just saved, splits it with Wily, and then arranges for his escape. I suppose all the powerups go to Wily to use in creating the next batch of "threats," though I'm not sure what happens with Rush. Maybe he has to dismantle Rush's powerups in order to bust Wily out, or something. No, I've got it! He has to use Rush to bust Wily out, but Rush isn't kosher with the deal so he keeps attempting to rat out Megaman, who then has to break Rush. Dr. Light then fixes Rush, but can only do so much so Megaman has to find the appropriate parts before he can use the extra features again. Don't ask where Protoman, Bass, and Treble fit in, 'cause I don't know.

He's destroying all of his weapons after he's been putting Wily in chains, because he dosen't want to carry weapons since he think's it's wrong and it could hurt some innocent people... duuuh ;>

You'd rather think of him as a con artist than an honest but naïve boy-bot?

I have a sprite comic :4( but it hasn't been updated in, like, a year. Although I've been told I'm funnier than Bob & George. In fact, I make it a rule to never write a comic about how bad the comic is, whereas B&G used that as a main source for "humor." Now Rush is a real bother. Not only does he lose his abilities, but even in MM3 where he first appeared, it was the enemies who had the adaptors. Did Rush work for the enemies at some point? Is he a stray that Dr. Light fixed up? While we're talking about Dr. Light, why doesn't he make more robots like Mega Man? If there were two or three heroes, maybe they could've stopped Wily from escaping in MM7. Then the villain would have to be someone more powerful, and we'd get a cool game with multiple characters to choose from (Mega Man & Bass was a good start, but let's keep going).

Wily built Rush, and Right & Wily both built the RMs that you fight in 3... whatever the connection is, I don't know, but there you have it. (the plot of 3 has Wily repenting and joining Right to work together to build Gamma.. which he then steals. In case you didn't read the manual / play the Complete Works version).

Could Roll be a super fighting robot, or is that not in her character in the games? I've been watching the TV show too much...
