FCE Ultra 0.98.12
Warpfull version
Bugs: I found two ways to pass through walls
  • 1: pass through wall from a corner: you must run and fall at top speed and have a good pixel alignment
  • 2: pass through a wall if the ceiling is reachable: you must run lean before jumping, you must begin to fall before reaching the wall and you must be just under the ceiling
No hit/No death
Aims: Fastest as possible and maximum score
  • score = 364270
  • life = >99
  • coin = 54
Description: in this movie, I show you these bugs and some other cool moves. I don't follow the road in the last stage because I pass through any wall which I see lol!!

Phil: Note that the movie may desync due to some random timings in FCEU when playing that game. Retry playing the movie until it is ok.

How come all the SMB3 runs use firepower in Bowser's air ship instead of the washbear? Is it just to make it more challenging/interesting, or is it actually faster, other than for killing the boss?
For fighting Boom-Boom, firepower is the faster of the two methods (but still is slower than using a star or hammer suit). For fighting Koopa kids, firepower kills them faster, but raccoon (washbear) power can be used on some levels to fly to the top and grab the wand above the screen, which is almost equally as fast as using firepower. For regular levels, running is the same speed regardless of what powerup Mario has, but if he is raccoon Mario, once he jumps at full speed, he will enter flying mode, and the speed will start slowing if he stays in the air. His P-Meter also stays maxed for a few seconds, and then empties completely, making it necessary to run up to full speed again. (For autoscrolling levels, this doesn't matter that much)

Like many of you, I started having interest in speedruns because of this game. I remember back in the day I would play this game for hours getting frustrated death after death. And now its a sport to have people finish the game as fast as possible. Talk about demoralizing!!!! JK!!!! I enjoy watching the videos and I thank you Genisto for making this a nice run and for getting me hooked on speedruns! I also wanna thank all of the participants who have contributed in making speedruns and those who are in the proccess of making one! You guys don't get paid to do this yet you spend plenty of time and effort just to entertain viewers like me. And for that I thank you! Look at me, spending my time thanking people on a message board as if it were some kind of life changing experience.........LOL. now if you'll excuse me i have to get back on creating a speedrun of my own, and that is running to the store to buy some groceries before the chicken in the oven gets burnt.........AGAIN!!

I'm surprised this didn't beat the morimoto movie by more than 19 seconds... you walk through walls AND have a different route... (J) vs (U) version differences, maybe?

Just for the record, this movie beats Morimoto's run by 29 seconds. The 19 second difference is when comparing to Genisto's previous run.

In either case, 20-30 seconds is a huge difference for a game like this
