I understand your position :( I don't want to sound too bossy but knowing you two are working on a big project like this run, you are more or less bound to suffer from late discoveries which requires you to start all over. Look at the old Mario 64 120star run, several tasers knew there has been a new discovery which would mean they'd have to redo from star X. But some of them reasoned it's better if they finished the run they had, knowing they had reached pretty far and work on another version in the future. So I strongly suggest that you finish your run, because thusfar, it's quite optimized and looks very good.
I lost all motivation when a 3(?) minute time saver was found that would require us to basically start over.

And how much time could they have saved? I bet it wasn't 3+ minutes.

We can gain 5+ minutes in my Rayman 3 TAS because all those were found at END of run, and redoing an hour of ingame time TAS is kinda annoying, but continue, it won't be rejected for this.

TASVideos is like a quicksand, you get in, but you cannot quit the sand
We aren't at the end though. We're about 30 minutes in, with somewhere around 2 hours left to go. If we were 90% done, then it'd be easy to just ignore and just finish, but we aren't. More than 10% of what we've done can be cut out. That's huge. I could do a really quick and unoptimized tas and get back to where we are now in a week or less, and still be ahead by a couple minutes.

If I remembe, someone got in a Donkey Kong TAS to redo all this TAS when he was at end, he redid all, that's nothing man, it happens to everyone, just redo it

idk, some rerouting can be done to not have to go so far back at the cost of not saving as much time, but i'm not sure how much time would be wasted that way vs optimal route. Perhaps 30 seconds wasted, if we go back to the start of forest temple, but i'm not sure. Still saves a ton of time though..
If pheenoh ever comes back i guess we'll discuss it. Until then though, i don't really want to start over by myself.
Just start the thing over when you're motivated again, Rachel. Even with the differences from the new strats, I can't imagine it taking as long as the first time, now that you can use the old version as a reference. You can even copy input whenever it's possible, no one's gonna blame you for that.

There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Whatever you two decide, you got my support. Whether it's restarting or continuing. Even if you restart, imagine if someone else finds another big improvement, what then? :) But I understand you'd rather restart. Good luck with however you decide.

It's right before goats, restarted. I will be reusing some of the inputs from the old TAS, but alot of sections will be redone as my knowledge of movement has improved, as well as new tricks and strategies. I'm not actively working on it right now.
Hm.
What version of Dolphin does it use this time? Iirc the old version(s) made some tricks unusable.
It is being done on a modified version of 4.0-3969 that allows reset recording. This version no longer has the physics bug that the old one did, which prevented us from doing a glitch in Lakebed Temple that saved time.
I don't know if this is at all useful info for a TAS or if it has already been discovered, but you can get the Hookshot in the Water Temple before starting any water flows to the central chamber (Wii Version).
There is a room with a circular platform above it, the above platform has small circular platforms dangling from it. Normally you're meant to start I think 2 water flows to get the above platform to begin spinning which also causes the smaller attached platforms to begin moving, giving you access to the smaller platforms which will then take you to the miniboss guarding the Dungeon Item. One of the small platforms is located by the passage to the miniboss (before the above platform starts spinning) and it's possible to fall on to that platform from the room above.
I discovered this completely by accident the very first time I played through this game. Having the Hookshot opened up so many things I could pointlessly interact with that it made the intended route through the dungeon a confusing mess that I couldn't figure out (So many red herrings confusing me on where to go!). I ended up having to look at a guide for this dungeon and every guide I looked at was very confusing because I was always reading from the point where you get the Hookshot when I should've really been reading from the start of the guides walkthrough for the dungeon lol.

As far as the TAS goes, the TAS is being done on GC version, which doesn't ever hit the second floor in that room, as it simply does a GB double LJ to the ledge.
In the Wii version, there is no GB LJ and therefore Wii must go to the second floor of that room. Normally, you'd grab a small key, open the water tower, turn on the water, and then come down, ride the platforms to a small key, then use that small key to open another door to access the miniboss. With the sidehop, you can simply grab the small key you'd use to unlock the water tower and use that to access the miniboss.
Possibly usable in any Wii version of a run. Wii Any% likely can sidehop to a different platform to skip the small keys entirely thanks to EBF; Wii 100% would also likely so the same. Glitchless, in my opinion, would still use it but sidehopping to the other platform, not the one right by the boss, as the EBF flag would take too long to set (Neither any% nor 100% glitchless routes I typed save at all before the master sword, which is after Lakebed)

Bumping this thread in hopes Pheenoh catches this post and possibly can give us an update.
