My ed 1 run yeah fast text would be nice I got 4:34 with out fast click away and ofc sloppy movement but it shows it could be faster this is just to show people what it looks like.

is it the overflow that is affecting the speed of the text? maybe there is another item that eliminates this to a degree?
one time I got a glitch that made it show a character (letter) every 10seconds or something it was pretty bad but that had a lot of text in the glitch is I remember correctly
Would a JPN ED1 run obsolete the USA ED1 run by klmz?
Would the JPN ED3 run have enough merit to be published? Do you think each ending deserves its own run?
I'm thinking about using the hut glitch for an "all endings" run. It really helps with not having to worry about sleeping 100 days. But planning around the Japanese grasses/mushrooms/fruits/berries might be hard for me. It seems on JPN there are not two scenarios like on USA - there are actually at least 4 I think. So each scenario needs to be considered. For example, there need to be two same "bad effect" foods in the swamps.
Also, before another ED8 run or an "all endings" run is started, it should be tested if the out of bounds bug can be utilized to skip more parts of the swamps.
This has also been talk between megotsthis and myself we weren't sure weather to separate them or not especially as the glitch can only be gone in the jp version we put them in the same list but both agreed it was different and both should be treated differently in a way but that was just our opinions that usa/pal and jp are different we could be over thinking it.
I would love to see an all endings run if people can sit through going through the hut text 3 times which may seem repetitive for some people I would enjoy seeing the difference text glitch text though and the glitchy endings always fun but I don't know if people would enjoy this as much. I can try to help as much as I can if you do tas all endings may even be worth taking clams this time although there numb effect last for ever so it is a time loss.
I feel like you're ending 3 run should be published instead of taking over an hour with ending 3 it is 2:42 plus I feel for anyone who hasn't seen the glitch before it is surprising and fun coming from this game. Ending 3 and 7 are very repetitive this way to end the game actually makes them fun to do for me. I think out of ending 3 and 7 I feel ending 7 has more to it at least with ending 3 you still have stuff like find the other girl/boy but with ending 7 it really is a nothing ending all you do is eat, sleep and drink. Thats how I feel personally.
Also not useful to tas but if you make kindling and put it down in front of you instead of saving and quitting your character will walk over it just something funny. Also English has less letters than French or German (did not check Japanese) idk if having less letters really affects text speed yet I need to record and see.
How many places can the oob be used I have been curious about it as there are lots of places you can't do it. If I was confusing in any areas just ask sorry.
As a separate point I was wondering how you got ending 3 that way? I tried and couldn't get it to work I changed my name to "notono" and I even ate the grass. I couldn't get it to work though so does your name matter in this ending because I never thought as much before and I even tried the same direction you walked? this glitch is so precise but thats why I like it
edit - okay so doing hut skip I was back in monkey been rescued state and I have never built the raft but the earthquake still happens giving a game over. I am so glad I recorded this I need to upload to youtube but I want to mess around with it more before I do that. so excited I just needed to put it here for you guys
okay so I was messing around with stuff more and it seems to put you in an unwinnable state you can't leave on the raft if you sleep you die you can rest though and the event won't trigger
For console runs, you will probably want to divide hut glitch runs from non-hut glitch runs, since JPN version may be harder to come by for speedrunners. For TAS it's a different story.
It is unfortunate you cannot save the game before doing hut glitch, so it looks like you indeed have to redo the beginning three times. I'm not sure if any of the endings (1, 3, 7) can be coupled together in one go. This makes planning complicated...
You need to get the correct food scenario. I'm eating a grass there that has the "ugh, bitter" effect with the sweat drop animation. This makes the text pointer 16550, and ROM bank 5.
I changed my name because I had about 20 frames to wait until the food scenario came. It is a stylistic choice.
I will probably submit that run soon, with the intent to have it obsolete klmz' run for "fastest achievable ending".
Online the Japanese version is the cheapest and easiest to find for me stranded kids is to much money but I guess it makes sense the game is very popular over there which is why I am buying that one I can't find the usa one atm sadly.
I think 3/7 ending can be coupled with slow ending 1 as long as you save after the glitch text you will boot up in the same state so that would cut it down to 2 glitch text rolls instead of 3. Weird you can't save after skipping the cut scene does that effect some thing? Because if not it would be best to save after cut scene do the ending and then reload it. Although keeping that in mind you need the big stick for slow ending 1 so might be best to do that second really up to you. Funny even though it is slow ending 1 it will still be faster than sitting through the text again.
Haha okay I think I will try that then for ending 3 does that mean the randomised stuff is on a frame counter before you start the game? and I hope it get accepted I think that it won't be a time beaten easily with what we know because the other endings need extra steps like using items etc which means going in to the menu.
If you don't want to grind for the bitter grass, I believe there is also a 100% consistent way. Pick up the tree bark, pick up the stick (hidden in grass). Make the kindling. Make a fire.
At this point I'm not sure what step comes next, but you want to burn an item so it "becomes charcoal". I'm not sure if the kindling can be burnt for this purpose.
Then enter the hut and it should play out just like if you had eaten the bitter grass.
I don't mind grinding the run it is ending 3 and I can do it over a few days :) thank you for the advice though. I guess I could see how much faster charcoal is too as it uses the boy so you don't need to switch character might be fun to test. You can burn the feather by the way if you ever want to try it. Don't know about using the boy. I used the girl.
And I either burned the kindling (if it is possible), otherwise you can pick up the grass (which is nearer than the feather).
yeah it is the only credit warp that I found that works with boy. Oh yeah I could use the grass will be slightly faster, thanks for the tips. I don't know if you can burn the kindling though might have to test that out because that would be faster still.
edit I read your submission I really hope it gets accepted because it really is cool and I like to watch it haha. In the meanwhile I will continue to look for stuff, I am still trying to get raft to work, kind of curious what happens when the ship is reached in that state as it already thinks you are in the ship at first. excitingg
About Ending 5 (= Other kid is found, but dies at sea when setting off),
someone asked me how to trigger it. It is not as straightforward as I thought, so I did some research.
After the kid is found, the game will increment $CBA4 by 1 each time the Day counter goes up by 1.
When it reaches 0x0D (decimal 13), the game sets Bit 6 in $CBD4.
Once this bit is set, Ending 5 will happen when setting off, regardless of the Affection stat.
