Do you think it would be possible to get this game down in under an hour? It's a great game, but the controls can be rally clunky and awkward at times, and all the overworld moving and dialouge really slow things down a lot. Anyone wanna give it a shot?

I can't think that a timeattack of this game would be impressive. It'd be merely a walkthrough.

It´s a great game but I dunno if it would make much of an impressive time attack =/ Unfortunately.

Yes, this game's wonders lie in all the things you would miss if you do a timeattack :)

Is there any major bugs? It was a couple of years (again!) since I finished this game. So I just remember the pass for the submarine and how to play the orgel ;P but no bugs..

I wouldn't recommend a TA on this game for a few reasons. 1.The dialogue alone would make it more than an hour. 2.You could skip collecting some items, but in the end you probably would only beat a normal 100% speedrun by a few minutes. 3.You could beat Startropics II: Zoda's Revenge alot faster than this game. 4.Except for the boss fights, It really would look like a video walkthrough.

I'm thinking that having a subsite for walkthrough type of movies wouldn't be bad after all. Such section would make a place for artistical game movies from RPGs and other games where the player could actually go and talk to irrelevant people and show funny occurances. Such movies could be even a few hours long, as long as they are created in the "undo all obvious boring mistakes" spirit. Well, just an idea...

This is actually a pretty good idea. As for Startropics, though, famtasia can't play it or Startropics 2.

Has anyone planned to do a speed-run of this game? [Star Tropics] Although I do not have the technical prowess or a capable computer to assemble these sorts of things - I do admire alot of these movies and the time put into making them. So I was wondering if anyone was going to tackle this game? Another two titles just came to mind, Little Samon and Golgo13: Top Secret Episode, has anyone thought of doing a speed-run on these?

There is already a thread for this game, please don't start multiple topics about one game. What do you mean by "technical prowess or a capable computer"? Making these videos does not require technical prowess or a good comp. All it takes is a little patience, the right emulator and a comp that can run windows or linux. Have you read the FAQ? And if by Little Samon you mean Little Samson, it has already been done and is available at http://www.speedruns.org. Someone ought to make a new run though, the one I have seen didn't use very effective boss strategies in the beginning. EDIT: Or perhaps it's not available. I get a 403 when I try to access the site. Anyone have information as to why?

Yeah, it was Little Samson, spelling error on my part. I have read the FAQ, my hats goes off to everyone who has been able to make these incredibly awesome time attacks.

I think I'll try my luck with Little Samson. Though, everything I've tried so far hasn't gotten me anywhere so I hope you won't get to much expectation. And if someone got the old Samson movie (from speedruns.org) I’d really like to have it, maybe for some tips. When I think of it, all tips are welcome.

Oh, yeah, I have the Little Samson movie from speedruns.org on my other computer. (I didn't even know the site was down until you mentioned it. I hadn't checked it in quite a while.) I'm going home this weekend, so I might be able to find some way to send it to you. It's pretty good, but maybe you'll be able to improve on it!

Basically, what I remember from the Speedruns Little Samson video is: ABUSE THE MOUSE. This is key. Not only is he the fastest runner and highest jumper of anyone (he can also climb walls and ceilings like Samson, btw), but he may be the best character vs. bosses. You have to get his little bomb-things to explode, and not have the enemy make direct contact with them. -Josh

I've done the first part of the game (where you play one course with each caracter) and the mouse sure is fast but the sometimes I think I'll have to play other caracters too because you can't kill enemies infront of you with the mouse, his bombs are far to slow. But the game rocks and it looks good too.

The dragon's good for the floaty jump. I don't think the author of the speed run ever used the dragon's charge-up blast, so either the author didn't know about it or it isn't useful. Oh and don't forget the rock man can punch in different directions.

Pretty cool. Do you REALLY need to talk to all those people in the village, though? I would enjoy watching a whole movie of this, so please do continue! *thumbs up* -Josh

This looks like it could actually make something. Questions: - Are you sure you entered the name and started the game as fast as possible? It was way slower than in Zelda. Does the game react slower? - Did you really have to talk to all those people? Is that the specific set of persons you need to talk to in order to get to the cave? Like, couldn't you have substituted the person behind the house with the person in front of chief's house?

I will definitly continue this run. Let's see, maybe I can do the run to the end of the second dungeon until tomorow evening. And yes, I have to talk to some people in the village. Not all but quite a few. It took me quite some time to find out who to speak with and who not.
Questions: - Are you sure you entered the name and started the game as fast as possible? It was way slower than in Zelda. Does the game react slower?
I think it's done as fast as possible, I did it at 6% speed and tried a few times and always got the same result.

Yes I have to talk to specific peoples Ok I proofed if StarTropics has higher reaction time in the menu at the beginning than Zelda, and yes it has.

Don't rush things, it definitely helps your movie to take time. Listen to what Bisqwit just posted, and see if you can do those parts of the game better. -Josh
