Filthy Kitchen is an NES homebrew made for Nesdev's 2016 Homebrew Competition. You play as an angry househusband who needs to clean up his unnecessarily big kitchen while using a suspiciously precise spatula boomerang, avoiding mess, collecting 4 brooms and defeating a giant fly. And yes, his kitchen does indeed look filthy.
Objectives:
- Emulator used: FCEUX 2.6.4
- Takes damage to save time
- Forgets that flies are harmless
Level by level breakdown:
Title Screen
The game allows input from frame 12, which is where I press start.
Level 1
First, let's talk about the game's physics. Your character has 3 moves - walking, jumping and using his boomerang that just so happens to be lethal to flies. The movement of flies can change depending on when you jump. All other obstacles run on a cycle. You have 3 lives and 4 health points. There's also a combo counter for how many flies you can defeat with one throw of your boomerang.
Now, let's move on to the TAS itself. It's your normal, everyday platforming action... apart from it's in a kitchen. I have to wait at one part due to the cycle of the leaky drains. Collect the broom and it's on to...
Level 2
The message at the start of this level says you have to kill every fly, but this isn't at all the case. However, I still try to kill as many flies as I can without losing time. This time I have to wait 4 times, some waits being shorter than others. I use a shortcut to get to the broom about a second faster than intended to enter...
Level 3
This level has 4 mandatory waits, the same as Level 2. There's nothing else significant to say about this level, so I can effortlessly collect the broom to arrive in...
Level 4
As well as being the last level, this is also the hardest, with 6 delays. I actually made a mistake here due to not pressing R for a frame, but it turns out by sheer luck that it's mandatory. Nothing else to say again, so I can collect the final broom in order to fight...
The Final Boss
A huge fly. My childhood nightmare. You can hit the fly every 49 frames. I struggled to get the swat- I mean boomerang back in time, so I'm not sure if the final hit before input ends is optimal, but I tried my hardest. I can end input shortly after the 11th hit to let the boomerang fly back and perform hit number 12, which kills the giant fly and restores order to the househusband's kitchen, so his children can now have their dinner in peace.
TAS Completed!
I hope you enjoyed seeing 2 submissions from me in one day. As usual, any improvements found are much appreciated.

ViGadeomes: Replacing with an improvement and accepting!
ViGadeomes: A mistake was made by me sorry, returning to judging...
ViGadeomes: A strat that saves 3 frames is used during RTA runs, but considering the amount of work needed to implement it in this run & the potential timesave which is so short, the TAS is fine as is.
Setting back to Accepted.
