I used Snes9x v1.43+ for windows.
Emulator movie settings:
- WIP1 Timing
- Allow Left+Right / Up+Down
- Volume Envelope Height Reading.
I don't use any warps or passwords.
There is one flaw in the game that I experimented with, though it doesn't seem to save much time. If you switch a pair of blobs from their horizontal position to their vertical position; and slide them right or left onto a pile one block higher there will be less of a delay between a blob settling and a new blob falling.
I don't take any hits until after my combos are released. I use the small boulders to my advantage when making them.
My aims for this game were:
- Complete the game as fast as possible on it's highest difficulty.
- To entertain the viewer with the combos, instead of just making them.
- To attain the highest score possible without losing time.
Kirby's Avalanche is a tetris based game where you go through dreamland, fighting various opponents from the Kirby games. Your goal is to become the Avalanche champion.
I made this movie one time before and submitted it. After studying it farther I found things that I could have made better, such as less overkills. I managed to beat all but two of my times. I lost time on Stage 6 somehow. I re-did that level the most time trying to get the blobs to form for a better score, but I couldn't. I got the same time on stage 5.
- Stage 1: 0:28 > 0:24
- Stage 2: 0:24 > 0:23
- Stage 3: 0:26 > 0:25
- Stage 4: 0:24 > 0:22
- Stage 5: 0:26 > 0:26
- Stage 6: 0:25 > 0:27
- Stage 7: 0:26 > 0:23
- Stage 8: 0:30 > 0:23
- Stage 9: 0:28 > 0:25
- Stage 10:0:27 > 0:26
- Stage 11:0:24 > 0:25
- Stage 12:0:31 > 0:25
- Stage 13:0:30 > 0:24
Overall the improvement dropped me below 8 minutes! :)
I have almost a double re-record count this time, I actually enjoyed trying to perfect this game. There are still a couple areas that look un-optimized, but believe me: I went through every possible combonation of blobs and sometimes it was still all or nothing.
This movie should be much more entertaining. Not only did I do it faster, I also attained a higher score and much more complex combos. Also, every blob has it's purpose in this run; unlike other runs which had wasted blobs and time.
This movie is the same exact run that I, and Tuggummi did. Even though niether were published I felt there were improvements to be made. So I made them!
Bisqwit: Good enough :) Processing.
