Are the Xe-A-Thoul's vulnerable to instant-death attacks?
As for Lassic/Lashiec, I think he has Possession (sleep attack) so all you'd need to do would be to manipulate him into using that every turn.
i'm restarting the run. I noticed that, usually, escaping from towns (rather than walking out) uses less frames.
and btw, are my entertainment trade-offs are worth the effort?
I'd say "not really." The text scrolls at a rate that's a bit faster than what'd probably be ideal for reading. It doesn't really add much more than a couple of pretty pictures for the scene. I think that was the only real entertainment trade-off I saw. Other than that, the run was looking great.
Before you restart however, I would suggest getting to lashiec first and seeing if you can beat him as you are. If you're unable to, then it would be a massive time waster since you'd have to restart again to level earlier.
I think your entertainment tradeoffs were fine, but IMO you were making the wrong kinds of tradeoffs. For example, if you're set on showing off the series backstory, then talking to the scientists at Motavia Academy who tell you about the Great Collapse (the events of PS2) would be a better idea than just looking at the statue of Dr. Luveno. ("Lubetz" is a mistranslation.) I did approve of you touring the wrecked worldship outside of Nalya, though.
Additionally, I think you should just bite the bullet and do all the sidequests.
I would also approve of you using the Talk command every time it changes.

I'd second the notion the entertainment tradeoffs aren't really worth it.
I would also agree with testing lashiec, because iirc that is what stopped Freenom's run.
I'd definitely vote no on any speed for entertainment tradeoffs. The entertainment tradeoffs you can do without losing speed (the "floating Raja" at the end of the latest WIP) are good.
I did notice that one of the treasure chests you have to open (Alshline?), there's one right next to it with an Escapipe. I think it'd be faster to grab that Escapipe than to buy the ones you do in Tonoe.
Also, it seemed like in one of the battles you fight with Rune, you lead with Hewn/Flaeli and then go to Giwat... but Giwat does more damage than the special attacks (if only by 5 or so). The TP certainly isn't relevant, and I don't think the animation makes you lose frames, so I'm not sure why you go with the special attacks instead.

actually, since I need to buy telepipes, buying the escapipe saves time. and now that I will need one (no detour to the wreckage).

Itemcasts are never quite equivalent to spells in this game. The Guard-Rod has a power of 64. Sar has a power of 0, but includes the caster's Mtl statistic. Gisar has a power of 80, and similarly includes the caster's Mtl. Star-Dew has power of 128.
You may want to use this as a resource.

lashiec may not be as hard as I expected. Tedious, but not hard
- he casts possession every odd turns, and Wren seems immune to it
- with a little luck, wren can withstand the physical attack ( a long lighting strike).
My plan : cast deban in the first round, and make everybody do as much damage before the end of the second round. At the end of the second round, only Kyra and Wren should be alive (i don't think rika can make it). Then, I will manipulate possession on odd rounds and heal as necessary on even rounds.
It will be long, but I think I can make it

I DID IT!!! unfortunately, escaping from gumbious is going to take too long. I will go and pick up the sol-dew from the basement before the torch gets stolen...
while i'm at it : should I get the ceramic sword instead of the laser sword? The former give 43 attack, the other 58. how can I estimate how much damage I can cause?
I haven't given up. I just noticed something else : macros are only advantageous if used more than once (unless I need a given order of attack, for a combo for example). After the Juza fight, I was 821 frames ahead (I picked the ceramic sword)
