Well, I dunno, I haven't had a lot of success with TASes and that's why I've never submitted anything. Perhaps, if nothing else, I should try to beat Lashiec from Frenom's progress.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone still working on this run?

That would be a big fat 'no' sadly. :( It's a shame, too. Freenom was getting really close! This game is the last "must-have" TAS that hasn't been completed yet (in my opinion).

*sniff* Shall I assume that the great Profound Darkness will never meet her end at the hands of the almighty TAS? :(

Well I certainly hope it happens one day. Perhaps if we keep this thread bumped every now and again, someone will come by, see that there's a good WIP run that needs completing, and help us out by finishing it! ;)

Hi everyone, I`m new to the forum and quite new to TAS's. I wanted to do one on PSIV since it's an awesome game and didn't found any done yet. But I see a lot of progress has been made already. From what I've read, it's sounds like more hell to do than I imagined though. Unfortunately, none of the links to the movie files seem to work. I'd really like to see it, so can someone please post the lates version?

Bam. Movie file. Be sure to delete or rename your current .srm file on the game (if there's saved data on it). If you don't, the movie file will desync from the title screen. The movie itself has the tendency to desync anyway — for me, anyway — but only around the first boss fight. Once you get past that, you're in the clear. Best of luck in trying to complete the run.

Thanks! I have trouble playing it back though. The 'Play Movie' buttontext is grayed out, as if it doesn't recognize the file as a valid gmv file. I got the modified GENS emu 9.5 from this site and had no problems playing the PSIII gmv file for example. Any idea what the problem could be?

Huh. I'm able to play back the file just fine. So unfortunately, I'm not able to help you. :\

Ok, I got it. I did 'Save Target As' since I thought it linked directly to the gmv file. Which it doesn't, obviously... Thanks!

Well.. the links doesnt work because of the server I had them on crashed for some while ago.. and the current WIP are on my laptop. I lost all motivation on this game when I came to Lashiec in the air castle and realised that "hey, I cant escape from his 'damage on all' magic thingie" that he does and killed me in like 1 or 2 hits. I think that was the latest WIP that I gave out on the forum. So what happend after that WIP. I re-did the air castle and collected all Mesetas that I could find(which was alot) from the chests and killed thoose 3 ugly looking creatures AGAIN to unlock the barrier. And now Im back to grind money/exp. The worms on Motavia doesnt give that much money, you accually lose money if you grind exp on thoose and go to the inn and rest. So an alternative suggestion is to grind the mesetas after thoose 3 ugly creatures in the air castle at the "life pod" if someone doesnt have a better idea. But grinding that kinda mesetas for e.i the fire/flame armor probably gonna take awhile. My suggestion to you is to dont loose the temper or faith on the game that I did. I dont know how many times I have closed Gens in frustration because of the randomness in the battles or how many times I have re-record big parts of the game. Now when I look forward on what I should have done from the beginning. Ive restarted this run so many times and for every new run I found something else that accually goes faster and have to re-do alot of things all over again. Bisqwit once told me that "you learn while you play"... and I cant agree more with him on that one. I should picked up every single mesetas in the chests and at the lvling I should teleported me to veichle-factory and step on the pod and teleport back. Sure, I loose like 10 frames or something(cant really recall). But WOW.. you save ALOT of mesetas. World-battles can be avoided by stop 1 frame before the "battle square" and continue walking. Well.. I dont really know what the future tells. I guess Im all to busy with WoW, RAIDing and my job to finish this.
Wheeeehaaa.. Yaaayy..

Dude... You should quit WoW at once and give us this TAS! :) Seriously, I can't seem to find the charm at all in WoW. Never really played it, and never intended to. And it doesn't attract me a single bit. Thats just me though. :D Get back to TAS:ing at once, Frenom!

Heh. Well thanks for at least posting Frenom ^_^ I know firsthand how much of a serious time-sucker MMOs can be. I'm that way right now with Guild Wars. I do know, however, that it's pretty easy to just dump the game from your life completely and then pick it up again later on. You really don't miss anything and you can give yourself a few months to pursue other things. Although from your explanation of this TAS, you don't seem to want to come back and do this. Hehe. Ah well. With this thread, I am certain that someone will come along someday and do a full TAS of this game. Thanks for all your contributions to PSIV.

Although what Frenom had already done was wonderful, I agree with Highness: I'd really like to see this game clobbered. Any progress, Zareon?

What's funny is that I was thinking that PSII deserved a run a few days ago. Here's hoping that you don't drop either run.

hello everyone! first of all, sorry for my poor english, and second, thanks to all TASers, helpers and of corse those who run this site, you all are doing great work and its real fun for me to watch those TASvideos (and non-assisted demos as well). the reason im posting here is quite simple, and i still can't believe it yet what i am doing. i searched for a PS4 speeddemo (TAS or nonTAS), and found nothing, than i searched the forums ... in the SDA PS4 thread only stands that someone (who's name i forgot ^^#) probably is trying one someday, well ..., and here, cool! a video! even if its not complete ... gmv? what? how do i play this? well, i than read through the guidelines, the rules, the tricks and everything else, installed Gens9.5b, searched for the correct rom and played the movie, great stuff i have to say! and than ... ok, movie endet, and i sit there with the rom and the emulator ... not too long ago i said i would never do a speeddemo or a TAS ... until yesterday ... i loadet the rom again, started the movie record and tried a little. well, its fun ^^. i'm used to save stat abusing long time, but not to slow down the game or frameadvance, but that stuffs just great ^^ ------ now, i'm trying to to a 100% TAD of this game (yeah, TAD, because Speed is not my ultimate priority (that is to keep my motivation high, and if i overdo it, its gonna drop fast =/...). why?, since the last two attempts failed and i am the type to try to complete every game i play at 100%. if i would try an any% run i know that i would stop as well in the middle/end of the run, and just want to make a movie of the game! it doesnt matters to me if it gets submitted or not, i can post and seed it by myself, but i want at least a finished movie of this game for this world (and well, there aren't lots of 100% playtroughs of rpg out there, so this is quite a motivation for me, and well, its easier, more items, less to buy, more mesetas, better equipment -> probably dead lashiec and profund darkness? =^.^= (and i like long rpg movies)) ok, for what i am going is: - 100% (all chests and sidequests (something missing?)) sidegoals - not killing too much party members (its boring for me with just the last man standing ...) - keep a good real time/frame count ratio (like i said, going fo a perfekt run on the first try, and first TAD(/S) would be a to big impackt on my motivation, like ... wasting 1h of my life to improve 120 frames in a battle? no thanks, i dont have _that_ much free time to spare) so, i am not going to redo a larger part of my movie if it isnt necessary for a few seconds, first i want a complete one, finest tuning can be done in the second play through, just making the first one first. but i want, need and ask your help with this one! i wont redo large parts, so i have to cut the time bevor the recording, i _want_ to keep the frames as low as possible, but i won't overdo it. there i ask your help: - nice leveling spots (and level sugestions), i think about overleveling a little, but not much to make it a little easier) first leveling im planning with the newts in the valley before tonoe (just waste all gra's rune has) - route optimation (chests souldnt be a problem, but to buy things at the right time and place, the time to a side quest and when to level up for now im going close to a walkthrough, although its a run trough now ... - the choice about death and life (i dont know how much i need or not need certain charakters,... i dont want rika or chaz to die (they ARE the whole time with me), hahn is already dead in my actual video, about alys i dont know, but i think shes going to die as well (well, more than once), grys? dont know ... he IS some time with me and maybe usefull to take damage in battles rune is going to life for certain demi not i think wren will stay alive too and raja too (and i plan to use him in the last battle) kyra, well, i love her, but for this short time? dont think so ... seth? hmm, if this place has good xp than im going to waste all his techs and skills and than kill him (one or twice ... dont know) - macro setups/combos for leveling/boss fights i dont know ... bashing until dead? (-.-"), im going to think about this one bevor the actual fight ... - everything i forgot --- well i've startet and have recorded about 20000 frames until now, i think im going to make a web-backup on my webspace every 30k frames, and post it here if an update has been done (a *.rar package with the .gmv file and the save stats) the path will be like this: http://www.sonic-projects.de/tas/ps4_xxx.rar (xxx = running number based on update count, like 001, 002, 013 ,...) im going to tell you all when the first one is up! and im going to take my time with this run, i dont have that much real time, and i wont push myself. this is my first, an probably last TAS ever well thats it ... did i forget something? ^^ ------ edited 10:31: ok, first update, made it to the vallymaze and havent startet leveling jet, the only battel until now is the boss fight in the academy basement, and well, dont know if this is good one or not about 27k frames 'til now heres the link: http://www.sonic-projects.de/tas/ps4_001.rar

SonicX3: Welcome to the forums! I'm so pleased you're attempting a run of this game. I think you'll find that as you use the tools for TASing it will become easier and more natural for you. A 100% of this game is pretty ambitious, but I'm very happy that you're going to try it. I'm not too much help when it comes to actual route planning and such, but as you release WIPs of your work, I will definitely watch them and offer any comments or tips that I can. Good luck!!

Ambitious ..., well, primary, i do this one for myself, i know that an atempt at a fastest possible any% run is impossible for me at this moment, i would have to do too much restarts and too long optimations i certenly would drop this off in the middle, i know myself to much (and my laziness ;)), so im going to do this 100% run, i think it is easier (even if much longer) considering the problems of the previous trys, and i won't go for speed that much. im doing this to 1. get my own game movie, and 2. get used to this TAS stuff ^^, if this whole thing suits me, maybe im going to do more, but first this one :) (even if its not that pretty, and long pointless walking and collecting treasures, i dont think that this video will be that much entertaining) well, i just started so everything is open, im still thinking about my route, dont know when to do those side quests, yo ... lot of reading walkthroughs and looking at maps is lying bevor me. hope to get the next 30k frames soon ^^

first of all: sorry guys for just vanishing and not telling anything ... and now coming nearly a year later back ... i startet working that time, and my free time got cut to about 4 hours a day, which i needed for myself ... my idea of a 100% well, bullshit, it would be a walkthrough, and in my opinion not a publishable one ... so the ones left is still the fastest possible speedrun, but i have to get more familiar with the game, especialy with the bosses, so i survive the hard ones ... my motivation for this game is not realy high at the moment ..., and i think i try another one first, something shorter, to get into tasing.

Yeah. I think we need someone good at probing memory during battles to determine how to luck manipulate attacks. Each of the really hard boss battles has at least one attack that is weak, so theoretically if we can find out how to manipulate the attacks, one could waltz through the game with very little leveling. Dark Force would take some time to beat, though. I wish you well in your other TASes, but hope you come back and try PS4 again someday. We'll all be waiting for that first PS4 TAS to be published. :)

well, i checked some other games and it seems i will stick with this one ... i thougt of dune, alisha dragoon or landstalker ... but theres more aktivity in those threads. "reading" hex is nothing new for me, and watching ram should be something to learn for me ... well, dont know what to make of those dump files, but i'm going to figure that out ... looks like i'm in ... again ...
