Taz-Mania on Gameboy is a platform game released in 1994 on Game Boy and drawn from the frankly colorful universe of Looney Tunes. In this opus, Taz is looking for a giant egg, hidden in a lost valley. According to legend, this egg would be big enough to feed a family for a year... The game recreates, among other things, Taz's famous tornado attack to defend himself.

Objectives

  • Emulator used : BizHawk 2.2.1 (Yes I started my TAS a while ago and on an old emulator version)
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Take damage to save time
  • Genre: plateform

About the run

At the start of the game, in the options, it is possible to select the number of spins that you are limited to using during a level. I deliberately chose to put Taz's spins at 9 in order to be faster during almost all levels. Once Taz has finished spinning, it is possible to restart his spin by pressing and holding the “B” button.
There are also gems that can be collected during the levels and which can increase the score. I avoid them as much as possible since they waste time counting down at the end of the level

Stage by stage comments

Christmas Island Caper

1st level: fairly simple level where I avoid gems as much as possible to avoid wasting time at the end of the level
2nd level: I didn't understand the mechanics very well in this type of level but you have to keep a certain height in the "power" gauge so that Taz avoids sinking
3rd level: basically the same as the first level, I avoid the gems as much as possible and I have to wait on certain cycles for the water jets
4th level: These levels are the most boring. Taz follows a route with gems on his way, clocks to add time to the timer, hearts, barriers to slow Taz down and spins to increase his reserve
Boss : Each boss asks to be jumped on his head 10 times. For the dragon, I try to jump on him as soon as possible

Easter Island Antics

1st level: A simple platform level, nothing special to report here
2nd level: Another level where you have to maintain your “power” gauge
3rd level: Another level with Taz on the road...
Boss : Unfortunately I was not able to kill the boss in a single cycle, the maximum hit is 9. In RTA the maximum was 6 hits

Fantasy Island Frolics

1st level: A level of fun fair in Donkey Kong Country style but much less fun... Nothing to report here
2nd level: Level in a tower where Taz can collect boxes that can contain gems or on the contrary lower your gem total. Taz can't do anything except jump. I make sure I didn't collect any gems at the end of this level
3rd level: Second level of fun fair
4th level: Another boring level with Taz on the road
Boss : Before you can jump on the clown's nose, you must first wait until the rock has fallen

Dark Island Drip

1st level: It is possible to reach the end of the level faster. By putting Taz on the edge of the second elevator, when the latter goes up it will push Taz into the wall and allow him to reach the end of the level
2nd level: A glitch also allows you to end the level unintentionally. By standing on the left edge of the second cart, when it comes close to the wall, I activate Taz's spin in order to project myself into the wall and the end of the level is activated. I don't know exactly how this glitch works but I was surprised to discover it in RTA runs
3rd level: A road level...
Boss : The boss's moves are RNG based. After the boss throws all his fireballs, the boss navigates from left to right (or the opposite) while remaining in the air. Which makes it impossible to jump him. Either he navigates by diving to the ground which finally allows him to jump on him. I haven't found a way to manipulate it so that it dives to the ground every time. There could be potential improvement at this level in my opinion.

Dodo Island Devils

1st level: Slightly labyrinthine level but I use a jump on a volatile enemy to reach the heights of the level and avoid a detour
2nd level: Pure platforming level and there are two gems I can't avoid on the way
3rd level: This level was one of the most frustrating for the TAS. I don't use any spins during the level since there are ladders that Taz can't climb if he spins. And waiting for the whirlwind to end would waste too much time. I thought it was impossible to complete the level without collecting clocks along the way to increase our timer. My first attempt was a failure since the timer ended a few frames before arriving at the end zone... But with perseverance and a few frames saved here and there, the level could be completed without extra time !
4th level: Last road level, finally !
Boss : It is possible to jump a maximum of two times on the boss's head before he gets up.

Zoo Keeper Copter

Final Boss : The final boss can be hit in two different ways, either by throwing projectiles at him when he is high up, or by jumping on him when he is low enough. The film ends as I head to the left of the screen, the boss will arrive and take the last hit

frame : 61275

Darkman425: Claiming for judging.
Darkman425: A lot of spinning to win with more speed and a little bit of clipping to the end some levels early. Looks good to me.
Accepting to Standard.

Do you have any other screenshots that show off a glitch?

No sorry I only noted this frame in particular, does it pose a potential problem?
