Alright, some of my real life commitments just finished. here is an updated run up to the prism flowers. Once again, Slade has gotten weak, and can't one shot monsters. I'm thinking a restart is in order.

Ah yeah, I was wondering if that would end up being the case. Still a good looking run so far.

I've got a few minutes to babble on this, so here it goes. The run needs to be restarted, and I am too burned out on this game to really continue. The manipulation is going to be an extra pain. Here is what needs to happen - Earlier in the game, Slade needs to get the first power water available in the Holy Sword Shrine. This gives him enough power that he should be able to kill enemies, and still be able to manipulate +2 Att per level. There are 2 more power waters in the game. Slade must be given both these. Finally, on the Slade issue, he must not be promoted until at least level 30. That gives 25 levels of +2, and 3 power potions at +4, for a total of 62 attack points plus the initial 8, and whatever weapon. However, Slade getting all the power potions means Bowie needs to also get +2 on sufficient early levels so that he can 1 hit Taros. However, Bowie becomes exceedingly useless after the Taros Battle. His MOV sucks, and he can only gain +1 per promoted level. He is also extremely hard to manipulate +2 ATT per level. (Around 10%, as oppose to 50% for Slade). Therefore, I think after the Taros battle he needs to slip in levels, and replace Sarah's job of battle order selector, allowing her to die. Finally, the craptacular Peter. While he can gain +2 or +3 per level, the +3 is rare, (10%ish), and he can not be augmented with a weapon. However, his death functionality is extremely useful, and shouldn't be overlooked. Especially since bosses, such as Geshp, can't beaten in one hit, even with 100+ attack, double hitting, criticals, etc. Near the end of the game, you get Lemon the Red Baron, who comes equipped with an auto-kill weapon. He can also die repeatedly, which makes him useful as bait for Zeon and Galam. The end strategy is going to have to be having Peter and Lemon taking hits from Zeon, while a pumped up Slade beats away at the bosses. I've got a metric ton of Lua scripts that make TASing this game a simple exercise, so much any new TASer could take up the charge. If anyone would like to collaborate from the get-go, let me know. I've become much busier in my life, so I don't know if or when I will get back to this run on my own.

Yeah, that sucks. I wish I had the time to try it out myself. Hopefully someone will come pick up DarkKobold's already-amazing work.

Restarted, on "Ouch" difficulty (Hardest, per website requirments). I'm leaving the Speed Up Cursor on, since it is a secret configuration option, and does not affect anything else. I found out, that I am able to get Bowie +2 Atk, every level, with some extra manipulation. The extra wait time in menus is paying off in spades, in battle time. Here is a new version. It is ~3 minutes faster, and that includes picking up Power Water, Quick Chicken, and a spear for Chester.

If anyone else has tried watching this yet, is anyone else having problems with it desyncing around the 5400 mark? I can't make it past the scene where Sarah and Chester join the force before everything just goes crazy

Hrm... that's no good - this rom has always worked fine in the past w/ DK's run.... I'll try some other things.

Played fine for me with the ROM I've always used. It looks really good, I'm diggin' it! I hope to see this finished one day. Looking forward to seeing more WIPs.

Where can I find that? The Google Code page still has 11a as the latest version.

Oh, I think I compiled that from the SVN. It does sync on 11a.

I got it to work, I don't know what I did, but I swapped some directories around, got some different versions of the ROM, and now I've watched it, and am patiently awaiting more.

This version does the Kraken first. However, I think I'm ditching it, in favor of grabbing the Achilles Sword first. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1603942284/Shining%20Force%20II%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv

Looking good, and I see you changed your Kraken strategy from Desouling him to just beating him to death with Peter.

I came to a realization, after doing the battles to get the Achilles Sword... Kazin takes too long to get Desoul. Additionally, desouling monsters doesn't actually help me. It gives levels to a character that has no use for them. I may have to start again... from New Granseal...

So, I'm done-ish. I'm just debating whether to include the optional extra battle, or to make that a separate movie from the publication. Any opinions? Submission coming soon! Also, I'll be posting the full code in this thread, once the movie is published.

Imo, definitely do it. Crushing the game with ridiculous luck manipulation on a boss by boss basis is one thing, but crushing all the bosses in one battle is another.

I think it'd be better as a separate movie, personally. Either way, looking forward to it. That last WIP looked quite good.

Glad to hear you've completed this one. I'd say include the extra battle in a supplementary GMV.
