Wow, very impressive how you got that extra speed for the dash to the Crystal Snail heart tank, and I like how you used the charged Magnet Mine in the boss fight, pretty smart to plant the earlier mine on the floor so you could have time to charge it. I also thought the Magna Centipede fight was interesting how you handled it without the Silk Shot, using the Strike Chain to break free of his annoying death grip. Don't worry too much about hex editing since it's negligible compared to the other improvements you've made. Save it for another run if it turns out a drastic route change saves more time.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Wow, the more I see, the more impressive the run gets. Your use of charged up speed burner and strike chain is very creative. A few questions: How does using the strike chain free yourself from Magna Centipede faster? How does charged up speed burner make you faster (like is it faster than simply dashing)? Is it faster to get out of the rabbit armor in Crystal Snail's stage because you don't have to break all those blocks? Is getting out of the rabbit armor also faster in a no-items run?

Here's what I got from watching it. I might be wrong. The strike chain isn't for freeing himself. It's for a delayed shot to inflict damage on M.C. Speed Burner is a slightly faster dash. It's also a free mid-air dash. The Rabbit question I can't answer for sure.

Yes, the Strike Chain is used because it does 2 damage and I can charge up in advance. To escape, I rapidly press L and R (any two buttons work, except X, select, or start) and the number of button presses required increases as Magna Centipede takes damage. There are times I appear to wait, but that's because Magna Centipede is a puzzle and breaking out sooner may cause him to teleport around. The Speed Burner is slightly faster than dashing. I was going to use the last Speed Burner at the second-last gate to Magna Centipede (where the shifting block was) but hitting M.C. with a charged shot first makes the battle shorter by about 90 frames. Skipping the rabbit armor saves 2 seconds compared to Blechy's run. I get to Magna Quartz (I heard that's the name) 5 seconds faster while only taking 3 more seconds to destroy. For the no-items run, not having charged Speed Burner hurts, but time lost can be made up with the Silk Shot, which kills Magna Quartz even faster (1.5 seconds) than with charged/uncharged Spin Wheel. I also took into consideration the major lag that occurs around the part with 16 breakable ice blocks and 3 crystal enemies. Compared to Blechy's run, I saved about 10 seconds in Magna Centipede's stage and about 8 seconds in Crystal Snail's stage.

also, on my version of Snes9x, the water level emulation is horrible. The water is solid, and I can not see anything going on. The same happened for Contra III when I get the invinicibility powerup. Insted of being blue / red, its black. im using Snes9X v1.43+ with remappable hotkeys. Even though I just recently got it, am I using an outdated version?
You turned off transparency. I think the default hotkey for that is 9, try hitting that while the water is onscreen and it should fix it. Also watch out for turning off HDMA Emulation or Clipping Windows, normally you want those on (except turning off Clipping Windows often makes it easier to make time attacks). Go into the Hotkey Configuration and look at Page 2 of the controls to see a list of these buttons, you can disable the ones you don't want to use or set them to more out-of-the-way keys.

Here is the run up to but not including the first miniboss in Morph Moth's stage: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/76/Backup8%20of%20MegamnX2.smv Gaining height from jumping off down-slopes is useful not only in Bubble Crab's stage, but in Morph Moth's stage as well. As for Overdrive Ostrich, I thought I couldn't shave off a lot of time but I exploited a weird boss invincibility pattern. I saved 3.5 seconds on that level. I'll be away the next few days so I can't reply to this board or work on my run during that time.

BTW, it looks like you're stopping to climb up ladders, but it's faster to just wall-jump up the middle of them. edit: I was right, but I'm an idiot for not seeing that one of the above threads said the exact same thing. (Well I was the one to figure it out in the X3 run, but I should really read these threads more thoroughly...)

World of Warcraft has taken over my life. I haven't watched your movie, but the commentary and ideas sounds great. I'll watch it for sure when the movie comes out, and may give improving it a shot. X2 was my first *real* shot at perfection, so what dehacked said about me improving as the movie went on is completely true(and mentioned in the run description, especially concerning Wheel Gator). Looking forward to it!

Thanks for the replies. As for an improved version, I'll decide when I complete this run. If anyone can improve my run, that would be great.

The WIP is looking really great :) I am really looking forward to seeing the zero-sigma-dragonpunch bug. Any new progress on this?

He's skipping Zero's parts. Can't do that. But if you've never seen it and want to, watch my dual run, or you can see a different, more condensed version.

I'm still working on my run, but very slowly. I have to study at university, and there are other games I like to play. Blechy's fortress stage runs are as tight as I imagined they would be, so I can't improve on them as much as on the first 9 stages. I'm currently in Agile's stage, climbing the vertical part with the control platforms. As a side note, there are ways to gain invincibility, not only in Sigma's stage, but in Bubble Crab, Magna Centipede, and Morph Moth stages. Shoryuken, Giga Crush (only for Bubble Crab), and part-full sub-tank required, but no tool-assistance required. Since this is only a demo thing, you won't see any of this in my run, and I'm not going into detail now.

Then I will (obsoleted, see edit). On a partially related note... wow... Kick some X-Hunter ass! Edit: I took it one step further, and crashed the game.

Interesting. I'm not sure why it crashed. I'll post a video of the other two invincibility glitches anyway. The video is in .wmv and was edited. (2.4MB) http://rapidshare.de/files/5346903/glitched2.wmv.html Click the Free button, then wait for the "download-ticket" to expire and click the file link at the bottom. Hmm... I think this is the best run I've ever seen. Great use of weapons, boss fights are great, especially flame stag and wheel gator. Extremely impressive, keep up the good work.

I was wondering what those sub tanks were for... Great job. But what was with the X1 clips? Facing the wrong way with Zero was kinda interesting, and to the best of my knowledge getting safely hit by falling blocks in Sting Chameleon's level is simply a matter of the helmet upgrade.

The Sting Chameleon clip was just a joke clip. It wasn't necessary, but I threw it in just to set up the Magna Centipede clip. To face the wrong way, ride the ice platform while facing left. There are other places to do this, such as before Vile, and before the second encounter with Storm Eagle.
