Heh those clips were pretty good. I never thought MMX could be so buggy (-: If only some of those glitches could be worked into a TAS. alas.

Finished the teleportation stage. About 10 seconds faster, due to Wheel Gator. Hopefully I'll have this run finished in September or October. The next movie update will be in the submission queue. :)

Teleportation, as in boss refights? Because if it was, doesn't that mean there's only Sigma's final stage left? And shouldn't that be really fast with the shoryuken? If so, I look forward to seeing your 100% completed run tomorrow. J/k, but seriously, is it forseeable to have it finished this weekend? Because that would be SWEET.

Well you do have to redo half of magna centipede's stage before you fight sigma IIRC... Still I am very eager to see this on the main page. Keep up the momentum (-:

Hi, I started playing using frame advance, stealing the first 550 frames from dehacked's movie, maybe it's a little late, but I'm asking you (dehacked) now if I can use the first 550 frames so that I wont have to do this myself, since I know nothing about hex editing or whatever it's called. :) I did this: http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload5/Mega_Man_X_2_-U-.rar It's up to about half of wire sponges map, but when replaying the movie I realised a silly mistake at the beginning of the map, so I'll have to redo that from the beginning. This is my first ever try of using frame advance, and I really don't know what's the fastest way of making my way through the maps, but I guess I'll just steal some tricks from FractalFusion's demo. I'm pretty sure I wasted a couple of frames at the first ladder in the intro stage, but I'm pretty pleased with being faster than FractalFusion, even though it's my first ever try, why I'm posting this is because I wanna know if I did something wrong, and if you could give me some tips or pointers. :) I think I'll keep posting my progress in this first try run if there's interest. Btw, I'm playing naked, I'm not picking any items up. Hope you enjoy my creation, and that you reply with feedback, and answers for my questions. Oh, and I can't get it not to rain right after the elevator in the Wire sponge stage, is there something particular I have to do?

You might want to zero out the rerecord counter. Also, I make a policy of not accepting RAR files, mostly because I can't use them. Otherwise, go ahead and use what you want.

Hehe, I don't know how to do that. And to add the file to .rar was the only way I could get my file uploaded at silentwhisper. 'Cause I don't have anywhere else to upload it. As I said this is my first movie, and I really don't know much about doing .smv's.

I present you with two major options: 1) One of the hosting sites listed elsewhere in this forum ( http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php is pretty popular) 2) Use another format. I hear ZIP has been pretty popular for the last decade or so.

Why, you wanna see the movie, or does the other members of this forum not download .rar files? Well, I guess I could upload the video if anyone wanna see it. And about zero out the rerecord counter, will I have to use another program for that, and also, it'd delete all the rerecords I've done in my video too, wouldn't it, and that'd be a little bit misleading, and I'd really like to know how many rerecords I did for my video. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/169/Mega%20Man%20X%202%20%28U%29.smv There I hope it's okay that I uploaded it there, I'll have to redo the part right before the elevator in the Wire Sponges stage, but that wont take many minutes.

Looking pretty good. Your first ladder looked good. For the second one, you might want to change your route slightly. Jump off the wall a bit higher - it looks like you lose time in the air trying to reach the ladder. Your vertical speed drops as you move up. It would be a better use of momentum to make each climb slightly longer than to have a single climb much longer, assuming the number of climbs remains constant. X stalls for a frame when his feet lose contact with the ground (read: jumping) while dashing. Although landing right on the edge of the floor looks good, this is a factor to take into account. Jumping entirely over some small steps would save you this stall frame. Ignoring the edge and claiming large amounts of horizontal space might also make its way into this equation. Not accepting RARs is because I don't have Windows so I can't use WinRAR. Linux RAR capabilities suck, notably I can't make them, so I generally refuse them.

I tried jumping off the wall just before the second ladder in the intro stage a little bit higher, just a frame later, but I couldn't get into the ladder, but I guess I'll have to experiment with that a little, and also I think I'll have redo the movie from the beginning to actually make it good. But then again, it's my first ever attempt at using frame advance, and you saying it looked pretty good makes me feel good. :P I thought I made another post, but it magically disappeared, but it was something like me not understanding the dash/jump part of your post since I'm stupid or something like that. And also, I'd be very grateful if you could tell/show me how to reset the rerecord count. :)

It's mostly because I've played this game so much and I wanted to try something new. Och tack för välkomnandet. But you're not really supposed to use any other language than english on the main forums, are you? I just remembered that I never finished reading the rules. :/ I actually just entered the rules thread, but I never read anything of it. ;P

Looks pretty good. I believe too that at the second ladder, only two jumps should be made on the left wall (like you did). A third one doesn't seem to fit. Edit: Never mind

Here's your SMV back. I hexed the rerecord count to its apparently correct value. http://dehacked.2y.net/X2-minimalist-wip.zip Edit: Sorry FractalFusion.

I think I'm gonna play it from the beginning, because I replayed the first 485 frames of the game, and I managed to save 5 frames from my current movie file. And then I'm gonna be able to replay the two ladders, I'm pretty sure the first ladder could be done better, I didn't realise this until after the second ladder since I've never played using frame advance mode before. And I also see that I could've waited 1 frame before doing the second wall jump right before the second ladder, and therefore not lose any height from doing a wall jump, saving time to reach the second ladder. Edit: I redid the intro stage and I entered the bossroom 11 frames earlier than in my last video, but it's still not perfect, so I guess I could save a couple of frames at the second ladder, which I screwed up again. I really don't have a clue of what to do, I'll have to play around with that some more.

A good benchmark might be to find a comparable point in your movie and fractalfusions, like the first frame you gain control of X, and then compare yourself at intervals, that way you can be sure if you're at least AS good as he was.

Yeah, I find it helps a lot to keep the run you're comparing with (FractalFusion's in this case) open in a separate emulator, and have a text file always open with two rows of frame values for reaching idental points in the game between your movie in progress and the other movie. (I also put a dash in-between each number so I can copypaste intervals into calc.exe to get durations.) Then if one of my intervals turns out slower or not as much faster as I expected, I'll know to redo it until it's faster, even if I thought I did it as fast as possible at the time. I pick points in time like the instant that the screen starts scrolling to the next area, or (not quite as reliable) the instant that the character's horizontal position exactly lines up with something in the background. In your (Graveworm's) case, since you're skipping items, you should also put a time interval around where the item was collected in the other run, otherwise you won't have any way of telling if you did the rest of the room faster besides the part where you didn't get the item. But, the big question is whether you can beat all the bosses at the end in less time than it would've taken to collect all the items. Instead of doing the whole run to find the answer, you could play the bosses at the end without using the Shoryuken to get a rough estimate of how long they take, and subtract that from a rough estimate of how much time FractalFusion spent getting each item.

I had assumed that a low% run would be accepted even if it was slower than another non-low% run.

You mean subtract from the combined time of getting the items and finishing the bosses with the Shoryuken. Otherwise, it wouldn't even potentially be a correct estimate of which is faster. Andreas

Oh, that could be the case, it's still an interesting question though. On the other hand, it might not be accepted even if it's faster, if some individual parts of it are slower.

Well, it'd still be a rough estimate if you approximate each boss fight (from gaining control to the boss hitting zero health) as taking zero time with the Shoryuken. But yeah, what you said is what I meant. And getting an accurate measurement of the time it takes to get the items probably requires also playing the segment before/after the item without getting it and subtracting the two.

Well, I gain control of x 166 frames before FractalFusion does in the intro stage, and I finish it 205 frames faster, which means my intro stage is 39 frames faster than his, and I have still to redo all the frame loss I've already found by watching it one time, and I'm sure that you can find even more mistakes in it if you watch it, therefore I may upload it later this evening. I think I may have miscalculated my advance over FractalFusions video a little, I was tired at the time. But I'll post the video anyway, maybe I should've killed all the monsters, I don't know if they cause any lag, I guess not, but it'll look better. The second ladder still sucks, so I'll have to replay that a little bit, maybe make the first jump a frame lower or something like that. I'll also have to play around with wall jumps to see how to climb the fastest. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/181/stealing%20dehacked%27s%20intro%20again.smv I hope you can enjoy and point out what I did wrong in this 58 second long movie.

I hate to be doubleposting, but I'm not sure anyone really read my edit for the last post, since that doesn't put the topic on the top of the page. But I redid the intro stage again, and managed to save another 16 frames. Though at Wire Sponge, it looks like I lost alot of frames, though I cannot say where it comes from even though I've watched the stage several times. I'm not done with the boss yet, I've got another 5 hits to do, and I'm doing them when I find time, and then I'll probably upload the .smv if anyone's interested.

Good work. Keep it up. I noticed that in the second half of Wire Sponge's stage, rain slows X down, whereas heat causes all sorts of lag. Clear weather is obviously the best, but there is a spot in my run where I jump to a ledge that's too high to make. If the weather is hot, the plant-thing rises and allows you to make the ledge in one jump. Luck-manipulation is possible in this area, but confusing. Try to get Wire Sponge to hang on the ceiling for the last 6 hits, but you probably thought of that already. And don't pass under him.
