We need to lobby to make 'submitation' a valid substitute for 'submission'. I have fallen in love with this word. Thanks Walker ;)

3:15:54 from power on to when all the stars fall around Geno. This includes the jinx and culex battles.

1) This is a very good run. I can understand that you as author think there are too many strategy misses to warrant publishing, but the entertainment value of the result is definitely not lacking. Proper job! 2) One could concievably use submitation to usurp a meaning of submission or two, for example to differentiate between the event of submitting and the material submitted (i.e. "A submitation has occured, the submission is a Super Mario RPG run") ... but I suggest not :p

Some more tips: - only fight battles that reward with Flower Tabs (all of the power-up jumps in Bowser's Keep and the fights in Mushroom Way and post-Croco Mushroom Kingdom are unnecessary in the long run) so that inlcudes quite a few in the Mushroom Kingdom; also grab the Wake Up Pin from the vault guard, it is still important for good defense (Flame Wall is cut down from 10 dmg to just 6, a significant difference at this point in the game) - raise Mallow's Mag.Power accordingly to do 30 dmg to Mack's bodyguards for instant kill; I had been raising stats by whichever one had the highest bonus at whatever level...don't do this for Mallow, but I guess it's okay for everyone else for the rest of the game - use the Boo in the lower level of the room with the super star as a platform to get to the higher level with the star - don't need to drain the water in Kero Sewers...use the Boo as a jumping platform to get to the pipe that leads directly to Belome - don't need to fight Pandorite to get Trueform Pin in the Sewers; Mario just uses Jumps on Belome anyways, and I end up equipping a Wake Up pin from Rose Town to protect against Bowyer's 'G'Night'. The Trueform Pin has slightly higher defense but it's not worth the time since you'll never use it. - didn't need the Froggie Drinks (maybe just 1), but the less items in your inventory the better (see earlier post on why) - should have skipped the frog coin in Rose Way; jumping on Wigglers is faster! - in the Forest Maze, should have snagged 2 frog coins from the first Wiggler (1 to compensate for botched Rose Way one) and two more from the Wigglers in the large series of pipes to prevent having to backtrack like I did - buy three pairs Work Pants and as much upgraded weaponry as possible BEFORE entering the Moleville Mines to fell the bosses quicker (sell the Froggie Stick and the Hammer; they are very valuable) - don't buy any Froggie Drinks - don't fight Hidon in the Sunken Ship - don't use up the Fire Bombs after the last of the Bandana Red fights - kill Johnny with Super Jumps before he gets tough - when your max FP starts getting into the 40's, sell any extra flower items - for god's sake don't wait until after the Barrel Volcano for the Lazy Shells and Culex/Jinx fights I recommend using the lucky jewel on the following monsters. The newly doubled XP given to all party members (the numbers shown are already divided between the three) is in parentheses. Knife Guy, Grate Guy (60) Bundt, Raspberry (50) King Calamari (66) Bandana Red x4 (48) Bandana Red x5 (60) Yaridovich (80) Belome (62) Megasmilax (80) Valentina (108) Culex (400) Use the Lucky Hammer bought at Seaside Town on the Shogun fights, since only one Ice Bomb is used to take them out.

Okay, I'mma ask here for help on playing this movie.
  • I could not play it in SNES9X-WIP
  • I could not play it in full-screen
  • I could not play it in SNES9X
  • I could not play it "sound sync" unchecked
  • I could not play it with sound muted
  • I could not play it post-rebooted
  • I could not play it in reverse
  • I could not play it, spezzafer!
Whoa, I totally Suessed out there. Sorry. What I mean to say is: I've read the FAQs, the threads, and made all the tweaks that come recommended, but it consistently desynchs right at the first Terrapin fight...Mario sits and thinks for a while and ends up punching them all to death after like five minutes. Either I need some remedial help with smvs (which I doubt, because I got a few other movies to work), or I need to wait for the official submitation and encoding. Please help?

If youre using snes9x v5, it should auto-read what the settings for the smv are. Just make sure youre using the correct ROM and that you let the game play for about 15 seconds before you try to play the smv file. Otherwise, maybe you have some wierd sound/visual settings?

I can produce an AVI if people want it, but given the list of improvements I doubt this will be published. Still quite an entertaining run though. So many classics still need to be done.

Also, this is a game you very much need nitsuja's improved version for viewing. If none of that works, try to find a couple of different rom versions as that's a common culprit. Try to find a place of obtainment that uses proper GoodSNES names, so you can tell the rom versions in the first place. The .smv definitely should work...

Totally was doing that already. That's why I was so confused when it never seemed to work. But this,

this is promising. Didn't know that there was a "newer than new" SNES9X available.

Actually, I think I was able to watch this run on the official 1.43 WIP just by turning off volume height envelope reading and sound sync. This game apparently does not need "Fake Mute" to work after all, at least for the playback. Monthenor: if you weren't using my build, what 1st, 2nd, and 4th boxes were you checking? There is no "sync settings" panel in any official version.

*pops his head in during the Culex fight* I was using 1.43. Under the Sound Settings, the left panel had five boxes...1, 2, and 4 were already checked there, and number 5 was sound sync. I thought that was the one. My bad. Mario RPG is running great in the Nitsuja Special Edition.

Just make sure you don't check 'volume height envelope' and 'sync sound w/cpu' boxes...as a matter of fact, all you really need to check is the first box.

you know just for the record, I came so close to getting up the ledge in the shortcut to land's end in the sewers...there's a trick where you can time a jump off of the trampoline by jumping towards and engaging in battle with the Shy Away just as you are about to land on it, and promptly running away; Mario will be on top of the trampoline and there is one frame where he can jump off the trampoline...but the shy away and treasure box are both too high even then for anyone who is dying to know what might have happened if the ledge was accessible here's a savestate I made after messing around with some random RAM address to get Mario up to the ledge edit: just for the hell of it, I played it up to Valentina...the game freezes because Dodo doesn't have a middle party member to fly off with, so hypothetically speaking, if in another alternate universe someone DID find a way to get up the ledge you would need to do it after getting at least Geno

I've started a 3rd revision of this game. Up to the defeat of Punchinello it's 6 minutes 51 seconds faster than the published run. no Shyster fights in Mushroom Kingdom - Mario runs straight to Mack with no diversions bought the Power Blast in Tadpole pond for faster boss fights skipped two Wigglers (you know for the Frog Coins) in the Forest Maze never bought any armor or weapons except at Moleville I'm skipping Culex and the Lazy Shells which will probably save over 10 minutes total. smrpg_new.zip
