Here's what TSA had to say about that run:
TSA wrote:
A run in which he dies and doesn't utilize the quick spin attack, and also does this rediculous Goron Roll for "short distances"...he has the path, but he's not "great". Good that he did it, though. Oh yeah - He did it segmented. I'm doing mine one run...show how it's really done.

well since i'm at some point planning on playing and finishing this game myself, i'm not gonna watch any runs just yet, since they will spoil it. but any speedruns of games this long are plausible imo

and also does this rediculous Goron Roll for "short distances"... I found that to be hilariously stupid. In the time it takes him to apply and remove the mask, he could have walked the distance. I'd love asking him what the hell he was up to before smacking him silly for blatant time wasting. X.x

Maybe he only cares about in-game time units and the animation time while switching masks is not counted in there. That's the only reason I can think of. It looks kind of stupid with those extremely short rolls though. The goron mask takes up one yellow spot almost all the time and there is a lot of mask switching.

Following the sda forum, Im very much pleased to announce that very soon, mr wizard himself The Silent Assassin is perhaps achiving a sub 4 hour run for Majoras Mask. But I know TSA will some other day obsolete his current run due to small errors he has done in his current run.

"Small errors" aren't what he is going to fix. He admits that he has already made a lot of errors that werent necessary in his current run. Something along the lines of a minute or so. Still, this looks like it will be much better than the current movie on the site.

I hardly think when he has done the run and all the "small errors" will end up in 1 minute. And remember that this run is divided into several segments, so he could have redone certain segments but I can imagine on his tight schedule there is currently not so much time left for Majoras Mask.

Did you even read the thread at SDA? Here are some quotes from TSA based on his feedback: " Heh, oh yeah - you just have to get the Lens to talk to him. Arg, that's about 30 seconds I could have saved..." " Pretty good, but I am sure I missed something I could have done faster...(seeing as there is one thing per segment at least we've been finding). I'll keep the Darmani thing from Segment 5 in mind...cuz yeah, I can sort of redo it later." "I can live with this...this game is pretty easy to do so far, so perhaps down the road when I think of a better time to get, I will have stuff to improve on. It wasn't a mistake, just something I didn't know...so it's not horrible." etc etc. He isn't shooting for perfection like he did with OoT: he is only getting a movie out there that is faster than the current world record. He has already made a few errors that, although seemingly bad when compared to most oh TSA's runs, aren't unsalvageable. That means that he is accepting lots of flaws in his movie based simply on the fact that he plans to redo the run and clean it up once the summer is over.

The two "flaws" so far (yes, I redid some parts) are the Darmani Ghost thing (because I saved over the file and can't go back to it) and stepping on the switch in Woodfall to activate the ladders (though it lets me aim quicker). So, 40 seconds from those two things...and perhaps another 20 from the other small things here and there so far. Again, like with The Minish Cap, this is more of an exploratory speed run - trying to just do one to see what I can get and then work from there. Sub 3 hours isn't happening in this game...but Sub 4 needs to be done from what I've learned so far. This run can't compete with the run up - he wasn't going for pure speed and I am sure he spent a lot of time on the first cycle doing stuff. I would recommend checking out the latest 2 segments...you can see Sequence Breaks in Majora's Mask now.

There are a few persons who've showed interested in TASing this nice game. Petrie911 :) and AKA. I write this post hoping they or someone else will show further interest and hopefully begin working on it soon. So, anyone?

The only thing with TASing this game is that Mupen isn't ideal. I don't know all the tricks so I would need a lot of assistance and being able to conserve all these bombchus and bombs for the floating tricks could cause planning problems. I wonder if the game can be done without the inverted song of time since a day lasts about an hour so its probally more than possible to do it. I think this game could be completed in 2:15, and has a barage of tricks compared to OoT.

I'll start researching this game in a week or two when I'll have more time. I'll begin with playing the game once more to refresh my memory, and then I'll look at what the great folks over at SDA have been coming up with and hopefully try to plan out an efficient TAS route.

I'd like to do a TAS of this, but I have no clue how to use the tools and whatnot... that and I'm not a vbery motivated person. <_<;;

Actually, it would be best to play the the inverted song of time so delays from being told what time of day it is can be avoided more. Once the oath of order is obtained you can simply glitch into the top of the clock tower using the levatating trick. BTW you should try and get 130 ruppees at the start as a Deku, you simply put 31 in the bank. This means you can purchase a bombag and 20 bombchu's. This would also mean that bombchu's would have to be used very wisely as well.

But don't you need to beat all four dungeons for the oath to order to have any effect? I haven't actually tried after just beating windfall, but.. I mean, it's easily possible to get up the tower non-glitchily without beating any dungeons: you do it in the first cycle. So they must have a check for dungeon beating.

Yeah, I don't think you can get to the moon unless you get all four giants to show up.

You can't. I've tried after defeating each dungeon. If you don't have all four it just cut the time left to one minute (from five), where upon you have to warp or die.

Well, I think I will TAS this game. After all, I've already done Great Bay Temple (feel free to comment on my work on that; any criticism is appreciated). The TAS route will probably be the same as the SS route, found here. If any of you guys see anything wrong/should be changed, feel free to say. There are a few things I'd like to have cleared up before running. 1) Should I get the Giant's Mask? Although it would look cool to have no Happy Masks, it's probably faster to get it, especially since we're getting the Gilded Sword, but incredible aim with arrows could solve that. 2) Should I get the Goron Mask? I know it sounds insane, but it IS possible to skip it. It just requires an extra 10 explosives and some extra bomb pickups in Snowhead (as well as some luck manipulation in the road to Ikana). On the other hand, skipping the Goron Mask cuts it down to 2 cycles, which leaves problems with funds. 3) and speaking of funds, we should consider alternate ways of making money. The lottery seems like a good option. Killing dodongos is another. 4) while odolwa, goht, and gyorg all have great strats, Twinmold is lacking. Even with a TAS, a perfect fight against them will be difficult, mostly because it's not clear what a perfect fight against them is. Some other concerns I have are that I am simply using the arrow keys for movement input, so my range of directions is a bit lacking. Also, Mupen tends to display every 3 frames for me. is there a way to get it to display every frame?

my criticism: you didn't link neither the .m64 nor the savestate here (both of which you should compress, generally together is best so its easier to find). You need to do that.

In the name of all things holy, PLEASE use a multi-platform plugin, like glN64 or Glide3d. Jabo's won't work on anything but windows with 3d acceleration. Edit: my web server (which runs microstorage) says there's an M64 link hidden somewhere on the youtube page.

The game is crap, but that video was pretty sweet. Maybe, a TAS of this wont be an utter bore as I initially thought.

Im very excited you decided to TAS this Petrie :) Quick answers for your questions:

Whatever is the fastest. With TASing, you can test a zillion times to determine the fastest route, getting a certain mask etc bla bla bla you know the story :)

I would not worry too much. Im 100% confident that once you've reached the Twinmold battle, you will either a) figure something out or b) simply kill them quick as possible.

Nitsuja should be able to answer that.
