oh, right, that glitch again. Doubleposting to see if that fixes it. EDIT: oh good, it did. Reposting the video then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L1cF5QKxoA Swamp Spider House TAS by Eumeus

Does anyone have a save state or save file near the end of the game? I have an experiment I'd like to do and it would save me a lot of time. :)

Can someone explain the new Debug menu route RTA runners are using, and how it works? Thanks

It only works on Wii U VC, that's all I know.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

The reason why it only works on Wii U VC is because on N64, the d-pad is not mapped, so you can't navigate the debug menu to do anything except change rupee count. Otherwise it would work on every version. Link to video Here's a video.

From what I've read, it's because the WII VC doesn't have the D pads mapped. And that on N64, it crashes.

Does it work on the GameCube version?

I don't know. Speedrunners avoid this version at all cost. I'll ask though. It's an interesting question. EDIT : No it doesn't work.

It's impossible to do this on GameCube and Wii Virtual Console 'cause the L Button is mapped to the +Control Pad. Getting to console verify on an actual N64 is a joke. You have to do a frame perfect A press while holding the Control Stick in a precise position. Link to video

So do you only get one shot at the perfect A press? 35 minutes of song conducting just for that one chance?

Control stick values are hexadecimal 00 for -128, hexadecimal FF for 127, and hexadecimal 80 for center. The control stick values would probably have to be hexadecimal 1F or -97 for both axes. Link to video

Sounds like it crashes on a real N64 though. Probably for the best.

We could make an "All Possible Items in the First 3-day Cycle" TAS Demo. The possible items include the Lens of Truth, Song of Soaring, and Sonata of Awakening. Can we do the "Ocarina Items" as Deku Link? Obviously we can't play the Song of Soaring without activating an owl statue. We have to explore to open up areas for index warping as usual.

Thanks to the new SRM glitch first found in Ocarina of Time, it is now possible to warp to the moon in Majora's Mask: Link to video

There is a run with moon warp now. It's not great and the route will change a little in the future (day 2 woods of mystery has the bottle and a grotto with a fish). But it's interesting to see the whole thing in action: https://youtu.be/9ZXOSRezOWE (57:29) Edit: Better run: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/511199247 (39:50) Edit2: Even better run: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/511100539?t=05h25m06s (39:38)

Even the current WR isn't very good. I expect it to be lowered by 5 minutes over the coming days. At least this glitch doesn't crash the game on N64. So another TAS shouldn't be too far away.

This trick will NOT work on the Japanese N64 and Japanese Virtual Console versions. It hasn't been tested on the Japanese GameCube version, I doubt it'll work on the 3DS version due to better hardware.

Oh hey, technically those are also the new Low% records, with only 12 items! (and that's lowerable to 10 bc chus and sticks aren't required)

Yeah, better hardware is the problem. Not that owl saves don't exist... better hardware. The underlying SRM does seem to work in 3D (although not sure to what extend) but I don't think anybody has messed with it yet. The order will probably be "more ACE and control in OoT", then "ACE and more control in MM", then maybe somebody will look at the 3Ds.

There could maybe be a heap manipulation that doesn't need bombs. That would bring it down to 8. But yeah, currently the lowest would be 10. But either way, no hovering up ST anymore. :)

Faster run by three minutes, not on CRT TV: https://youtu.be/uHbkzQgABiM Sadly the manipulation doesn't work out well on J, so the TAS is going to be on U. In MM text speed difference is pretty much non existent between the versions, so that's not a problem. But it would have been nice to have power crouch stab for the Majora fight. Now that the holy grail (moon warp) has been found, our next holy grail would be to get our hands on a mask in first cycle. With it we could turn human and thus skip getting magic, the ocarina, song of healing and all the long cutscenes associated with those items. It even seems close in the laundry pool, but it seems like we have juuust a bit too little speed. - If we could unrestrict items and use bombs as deku there, it would already be solved. But sadly, Nintendo is not Grezo. - If Deku Link was as tall as zora, we could just sidehop to the laundry pool wall. - If there was a damage source, like the dog, in laundry pool, we could just clip in. Sadly none of those seem to be happening. Maybe somebody will find a new way to unrestrict items at some point. Maybe there could be something with the frog pushing you and giving you extra speed/height, but that seems very, very, very unlikely.

First warp to credits: https://youtu.be/xb9yijgukak Since this needs Zora Mask it's probably slower than moon warp. But this is the first of it's kind. With some luck we'll see one as human link at some point.

I'm still in awe at just how fast the current strategy is without using ACE tbh. It's ~6 minutes RTA from the start of Cycle 2, split roughly in half between "Setting up the Wrong Warp" and "being on the moon". if ACE Credits Warp manages to shave, say, 2 minutes off the run, that may sound like only a modest improvement if you compare it to the full 28 (RTA) minutes, but if you only look at the part of the run we can actually improve SRM strategies on then that's a 33% improvement. ...Honestly, I wonder what the TAS of the current route would look like. You'd be able to get more chus but idk if it would save enough time to be worth it?

Credit warp from graveyard: https://youtu.be/wX-QfHP5LfY Still needs zora mask but gets it via SRM from the grave. Could maybe be faster than moon warp?
