Just in cas you don't know, the speed demo Archive has a 100% speedrun. here it is: http://speeddemosarchive.com/MajorasMask.html#100p and here are the rules that were used: http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_newer;action=display;num=1118613852
Please ignore Comicalflop. While we thank you for trying to help, we are very much aware of the 100% run on SDA (and personally I think it's a high quality run).

I was more pointing toward the rules used to declare it "100%", seeing that it seemed to be the point of conversation. Why not simply apply the same rules for the TAS one?

It's been a very long time since I played the game, so I can't quite remember. Do you have to get all of the songs to beat the game? By this, I mean without TAS glitches and stuff. If you were to play it normally, would you need them all? If not, would getting them all be part of a 100% definition? And this may be a stupid question, but would you have to use all of the masks for their purpose to count as 100%? Because that would mean an extra run through the Aliens at Romani Ranch just to use the stupid Circus Leader mask. I don't think that should have to be done.

Nah, 100% is about getting everything, not using everything. If the game doesn't even record the fact that you did something, then you definitely don't need to do it.

That's good then. Using the Circus Leader mask would be a severe waste of time if you had to do that. Also if you were forced to use the garo mask and get in a garo battle.

That Twinmold fight was amazing.

probably not, but in the twinmold fight would using normal arrows throughout be faster since theres no shooting delay?

I must be stupid, but I can't seem to understand what happened here. What is the time saver?

He goes "through" the barrels. That trick is already known (I did it in my old Snowhead Temple TAS before the boss door), but it's never been done in this location before.

Fire arrows do triple damage to Blue, and the reload time on fire arrows is about the same as the amount of time it takes to hit him thrice with regular arrows. It's definitely faster to use fire arrows before he burrows in the first tome, though, as you can only get 4 arrows in before he goes under, while the 2 fire arrows you can get in do as much as 6 arrows. You could begin the fight with 4MP instead of 8 like in the video and still get a comparable time, so if that's required in the TAS, then there's no worries.

just curious, but which is actually faster? firing a fire arrow (including reload time) or firing 3 normal arrows (including reload time)?

So light arrows are not more powerful than fire arrows on that?

Arrows do 2 damage, Fire and Ice arrows do 2 damage, and Light arrows do 4. However, for some reason, Twinmold Blue is weak to Fire arrows and Twinmold red is weak to Ice. Further, unlike other enemies in the game, said weakness means they take triple damage from said arrows instead of the usual double. So the damage breakdown is Twinmold Red Arrows-2 Fire Arrows-2 Ice Arrows-6 Light Arrows-4 Twinmold Blue Arrows-2 Fire Arrows-6 Ice Arrows-2 Light Arrows-4 Now, the only thing I don't know is whether it's faster to hit Blue with 2 Fire Arrows or 4 regular arrows after it resurfaces for the first time. While it's burrowing in after its entrance scene, it is definitely faster to hit it with 2 Fire Arrows, and Arrows are easily the fastest method for Red. Unfortunately, 3 arrows shoot in about the same time frame as one Fire Arrow, so the times for the 2 Fire Arrows/4 regular arrows are very close. I don't know which is faster, and I'm not going to bother finding out until the improvement to the any% run gets to that point. Anyways, this new revelation about Twinmold's elemental weaknesses sort of makes me want to see what other enemies have weird weaknesses.

This is interesting. Do you have any sources or is it just from trying out different arrows/twinmold for yourself?

I found the memory address for the HP of each 'mold and watched how they varied with different arrow shots. So I'm very certain of this.

That would be really nice. If you would go through with it, what category would you be working on? Any% or 100%?

Any%. Update: just got to Clocktown. I found two timesavers along the way. The first was a way to skip the text on the deku flower. If you sidehop at the right moment, and keep holding A, he'll dive into it without getting the text. The second one was backflipping over part of the rail before meeting the Happy Mask Man. I've also been using mostly sidehops. Although it doesn't look like it, they're still faster than backwalking as Deku Link, at least over the distances I've covered so far. I've saved 418 frames (6.96 seconds) so far.

Really, this game runs at 60 FPS, didn't OoT run in like 20? Oh, also this sounds great, MM is so much more entertaining than OoT.

OoT runs at 60 too, but it only updates every 3 frames, so it's kinda like 20, but technically 60. Just doing the first 3-day cycle now. Nothing too bad. I'll post the m64 when I finish it.

How are you hoping to prevent desyncs?

By using the antids mupen. It won't prevent them entirely, but will apparently get rid of a lot of them. I can handle desynchs, however frequent they may be.
