Both of those tricks look like they could be really useful. They seem like they'd be a real big help for any TASes (Epona would make travel time a lot faster if you get her on the third day...)

Hi I'm new. My English is not good. I Maked some Movies with the Infinit Sword Glitch and the Bombchu Hower Glitch. The first, is, how to reach the Romani Ranch without the Goron Mask, bevore the Last Day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWFIM7wr5cs And the second is, how to reach the Scull Kid before midnight of the Last day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr_6gXuByNM I hope this will help to make a TAS Video.
Both of those have already been discovered, the ranch one by me. (and there's a much better way to get into the ranch early) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sho5ORTNDk4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV_GOBnl8dA For a ton of videos of the hover glitch and its potential (and a few other things), check out my videos on youtube http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=petrie911 Also, you can activate the sword glitch off bombs. Further, Goron Rolling is not significantly slower than epona, at least not slower enough to warrant getting Epona, and super sliding is quite a bit faster.

oh, i hoped being the first who reached the Scull Kid like that. And that with the Bombs, I didn't reach it, the bomb explode and Link got dammaged. Question: Is the Backwart Moving so fast than the Bunny Hood ?

I guess that rolling would be faster. Changing masks is probably a lot faster than calling, then mounting Epona. In that case, getting Epona would just be a waste of time. Getting to the Skull Kid early is still very useful, though.

Is the Backwart Moving so fast than the Bunny Hood ? Not for the amount of time it takes to get it isn't.

Do note that getting to the Ranch early might still be a good thing, (depending on the route of course) as then you can pick up the bunny hood on the night of day one...

I guess so. You need to go that way to get the Garo Mask which when playing normally you need to get itnto Ikana Canyon. Since i haven't been following this run i don't know if a way has been found to skip that yet, although i am very eager to see this run.

I know for a fact that one can skip the Garo's Mask; check the runs at http://speeddemosarchive.com for some tricks.

So any update on your run Petrie? Do you intend to release a WIP soon so we may see your work?

Well, Romani Ranch is very out of the way, i think. I personally would skip the bunny hood because the Goron Roll does the same job in (what i think is) a more impressive manner. Anyone that can utilise that runaway train scores point in my book.

There is too many implications to what should and shouldn't be skipped and in what order, I don't personally know the dungeon tactics, it'll be interesting since there more tricks compared to OoT. I don't think its really worth skipping the Goron mask or Lullaby, it would make it more interesting though. The route I've thought of as an overview is this 1. Snowhead;get mask . 2. Great Bay; get mask and hookshot. 3. Deku Swamp; complete area. 4. Romani Ranch; get bottle. 5. Great Bay; complete area. 6. Snowhead; complete area. 7. Ikana; complete area with madness like sequence breaks. 8. Head to clock tower and enter it early using levatation trick.

Skipping the Lullaby is definitely worth it, as there's a ton of cutscene with that, but the sheer number of small time losses make skipping the Goron Mask not really worth it. BTW, we already have a route. It's on the first post of page 2

So why are you redoing it? Did you find some huge timesaver like a left+right superdash or something?
Just a few holes I am going to patch before someone else uses them. There's about 40 frames of room for definite improvement and 0-50 frames of potential improvement.
w-huh? Is this a Bisqwit reply to the cancelled Legend of Kage thread, attributed to mwl and posted in a whole other thread?

I did not post the previous message that showed up under my name. Another one of those database glitches must have occurred earlier today... Anyway...no offense, but all of the tricks mentioned in the last few posts have been known for quite a while already. If you have any uncertainties, you should check the route on page two of this topic. In fact, barring the discovery of an unimaginable trick (such as flying through walls), I think this game has pretty much been broken to its limits, at least for a minimalist run. I'd love to see this TAS proceed as well, but if petrie's still having technical problems, we can only be patient and wait.

Are we doing anything about the long, boring wait on cycle 1? Or can we do some dungeon as a scrub due to glitch abuse? Or can we skip most of the waiting somehow?

just like in the speedruns at SDA, most of the waiting on the first cycle can be skipped by listening to grannys storys or having the scare crow dance all day.

JSmith, can you please look at the route before asking such questions? Seriously, it'd only take a few seconds of your time since the answer is right on it...and on top of page one, I might add. Two 24-hour Granny's stories and twelve hours of scarecrow dancing will take us to 6 p.m. on the third night. From then on, we save the Stray Fairy, get magic, collect and deposit 99 rupees in the bank, backflip onto the clock tower ledge, and it should be nearly about time. No, you cannot do much by glitching out of Clock Town while stuck in Deku form. Whatever you can do wouldn't be as efficient as if you had the flexibility to switch between masks and other inventory items. * You can't help the Magic Hags while in Deku form. * The fastest way to glitch into Snowhead early involves explosives. * Glitching into Great Bay early requires explosives. There you go.

Actually, there is no ice in Termina field when you glitch out of clock town. The problem is that the snowballs on the path to snowhead require explosives. Otherwise, I think that we could get the Goron Mask on Cycle 1. I'll test that in P64 (with those sexy levitation cheats). Oh, and I've started, having finally got around those issues. However, due to other things interfering, I'm only up through the file creation.

Besides the snowballs blocking the path to Mountain Village, some of the invisible platforms outside the Lens of Truth cave are too far apart for Deku Link.

Good to hear. This looks to be a very promising run and I'm very much looking forward to it. Which plugins are you using? Just as a reminder, AKA's tips for Guano's OoT run also apply here: * To save the most time, the character should be named "A" * The fastest way to speed through text is by inserting one input per frame (via frame advance) in the following sequence: A, A, B, B... (not A, B, A, B...)

So then why is GuanoBowl named I (or J, can't remember which) in his run? Just an oversight or something different between OoT and MM?

GuanoBowl's name is J. But he named himself A in the new run.

Guano corrected the name issue in his current work-in-progress after AKA brought it up. He didn't know when he began his previous run, so that's forgivable. You, on the other hand, have been informed. ;) If you look around, you'll see that practically every Zelda TAS runner names his character "A" since timing begins from power-on, and the goal is to speed through the file-select screens as quickly as possible. The fastest button sequence is A or START (for "PRESS START"), A (to select File 1), A (to select the letter "A"), START (to move the cursor to end), and A (to press "End"), A (to select File 1), and A (to confirm the file select with "Yes"). By the way, petrie, would you mind making a new topic (preferably with the game's title correctly punctuated) when you release your first WIP? You could include the route and links to your .m64's in the first post so that everything related to your run is easily accessible (like how TSA does it for his runs over at SDA). Hopefully, doing so will also reduce some newbie questions and remarks. I think I can talk Bisqwit into allowing this if needed; this topic can then be purged since it really doesn't contain that much useful information (no offense). EDIT - Did an unoptimised, unrecorded "test run" of the first segment and reached the clock tower at about 10 o'clock. So you'll have at least two Terminian hours to spare...

Which will be spent outside clock town collecting rupees. The fewer rupees I have to collect later in the game, the better. There's about 100 rupees that have to be gathered in the main course of the game, all of which I'd prefer not to have to get out of chests/out of the way stuff.

As far as I see it, you want to go outside Termina to A: Get rid of the long opening sequence as Normal Link B: Collect ruppee's this is'll very quick as you can manpulate lots of blue rupees and triplet green C: To buy the bombag as a Deku Early on, it'll be trivial to get the bombs from the grass as Link On a side note when you cut the long grass in MM or OoT what comes out is manipulated on the frame the grass is cut and not the frame you enter the area, unlike the enemy postions which is kinda obvoius. EDIT: I really think a game like this needs a testrun done first. I'd be willing to do bits of it just not the whole game, because time and day have such a huge factor on the game.
