I've been watching the videos from this site and other for a while now, they're fantastic. Genisto's current SMB2 video is astounding. Detouring in 1-2 to get the key just to throw at Birdo is something I never would have thought of. A couple of thoughts on it. Since Toad is used in 6-1, would there have been any worthwhile benefit to grabbing a Cobrat in the jar room and running that short distance, or does the time it would take to pick something up negate that? Also, although it's irrelevant since a new trick was found, is there any benefit to using Mario in 6-3 instead of Toad, or was that done just to throw in another character? As a side note to Bisqwit, this is your site and not mine, but if you're willing to put up a video of someone doing only one fight in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, I think you should be willing to put up a single-stage video if someone is confident that they have the fastest possible way of completing the level. After all, Mike Tyson is only one level in that game.

Well it wouldn't just be one level, it would be all of world 1. I'm working on it right now, and I think I can beat Genisto by at least a few seconds in world 1, but I don't see any point in doing world 8 because Genisto did world 8 pretty well and I can't think of any ways to improve it significantly.

I may have done mistake when I accepted the Mike Tyson movie, but I think only complete movies should be there. From the beginning it has been important that the movies are not cut-paste collections, but complete playthroughs where earlier events influence later events. You can post single-level movies as educational material - like I did with the SMB2 6-3 piece above - but they are only demonstrations of what should be done in a complete movie.

I just finished world 1 and it wasn't faster than Genisto's video, but some of the things that I did look very cool. However, before I give up, I have one more idea for how I can save time in the fortress.

If you watched my video, you see that when I used Toad, he has to do a squat jump to get to Tryclyde, but since Mario jumps higher, he doesnt have to. Genisto also used my trick of getting hurt and throwing the blocks from inside the enemy, but he managed to do all 3 hits with one block, which was nice.

I just redid the fortress and when I timed my video and Genisto's video, he finished the first world 3 frames faster than me, but I still think my video looks cooler, especially how in 1-1 I use the shell to get the powerup, and also how I in 1-3 I kill the turtle on the white block with the tail, send the shell flying up in the air, and then catch it. Edit: By the way, even though it's 3 frames slower than Genisto's speed run, I can still send my world 1 speed run to anyone who's interested.

I've been meaning to make a suggestion: why not let people browse submitted .fmv files before they're approved for publishing on the front page? It shouldn't have to be too much work, just an open dir of .fmv files. It might be a good way for people to swap videos of tricks and strategies, like mfried's improved world 1 attack.

I was hoping it would be an improved world 1 speed run, but as I said in my previous post, when I timed it I found out it was 3 frames slower.

I would be still interested in seeing it, who knows, it might lead to some new ideas.

Because I want to keep the quality/amount ratio as high as possible. [edit] Also, I think the page is updating often enough already. Maybe I think that movies that don't deserve to be published should not be published. Or, I'm just lazy. I want to keep a certain threshold on what is published on my page and what not. It's not a generic fmv file archive.

I don't have time to send it to you now because I have to go in a few minutes, and I won't have access to my computer tomorrow, but I'll probably be able to send it to you on Tuesday. I'm pretty sure I did 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 well, but it might be possible to improve the fortress more, and if it is possible, then this new powerup strategy is faster than the one in Genisto's video.

Are you translating Japanese to Finnish, or Japanese to English to Finnish? Is there a Japanese-Finnish dictionary?

Maybe he's even planning on eventually beating every speed run on the site. + Bisqwit wrote: Maybe he speaks only French. I've only heard of him via Phil. Yes, I am French, but I know English just enough to read and write it. That's why I did not come to this forum before. But, I will do my best. My working list: (in my priority order)
Battletoads (with Phil) Super Spy Hunter (This game is more impressive than Spy Hunter) Super Mario Bros 2 version 3 (with any suggestions) Castlevania 1 (Received items and hearts from most of monsters Arkanoid (really hard to do with three balls)
Notation: thx to every body for any suggestions in Super Mario Bros 2

Haha, when I checked the forum I say Genisto's name as the last post in this thread and thought to myself, "*gasp* Genisto speaks!"

I never said that, Mr. Fried did. :) I'm looking forward to SMB2 Ver 3. I just hope I'll have access to bittorrent to get it before somebody somehow manages to do even better. I think a perfect SMB2 run is on the verge of happening, and I'll go out on a limb and say it'll occur within the next month, at most. CV1 video should be interesting to see, too. I've always considered that game to be hard because it's impossible, but I've recently seen that it's only hard because I suck. ;)

I use excite (en/ja translator), kakasi (kana/kanji/romaji conversion), kanjidict. (en/ja dictionary) and canna (engine behind an IME) to extend my Japanese basics. Finnish is not involved.

I think you've done everything perfectly already. You fixed all the problems that were in my run. Just add in that trick that Bisqwit posted for 6-3, that should save you about 4 seconds. Also, try my POW block trick for 7-1, since you mastered the double jump better than I have.

Genisto, use Toad in 1-1 instead of Luigi. Toad finishes half a second faster. Here's what you have to do: Grab the first enemy, and carry it until you get to the bridge. About halfway across the bridge, throw the enemy so it bounces off the end of the bridge, and use the enemy to do a double jump up to the higher ground. Phil and Deviance, I'll send you both the fmv soon, but I just want to try redoing the fortress one more time to see if I can improve it by a few more frames.
