Something I was wondering about Genisto's run, both that which was posted and the one he's working on now (see this topic). What is the advantage of running into the Shyguy while holding the bomb in the waterfall cave on Area 1-1? Regardless of that enemy, you still have to wait for the bomb to blow up.

That way he's flashing while the bomb explodes and can start running left immediately after the explosion. However, it doesn't save time because he just has to wait longer for the first egg. Another thing he could have done (that also wouldn't save time) to get to Birdo faster is in the cave, when he did the super jump, instead of jumping over the shyguy, he should have jumped lower and landed on the shyguy, and since it was moving left it would have pushed him forward and let him pick up the bomb sooner.

Example in Super Mario Bros 2: the character continues walking with the same speed while doing left right left right trick lol.

In the part before Birdo you couldn't have messed up, unless you're counting the thing I said in another topic, but it doesn't save time because you'll just have to wait longer for the first egg. When you do the super jump in the cave instead of jumping over the shyguy, jump lower and land on him, and since he's moving left he'll push you forward and you'll get to the bomb faster. For the third egg, make sure you have autofire on when you jump so you jump as low as possible, and that way you'll fall down to the ball faster. If you already did that, then I can't think of any more possible ways to save time.

This version looks good. I would have preferred you not to do a doublejump the second time (because it went off screen and didn't seem very necessary), but I accept it. I liked how you walked close to Ostro and repeated its movements. It was very menacing and cool. One thing I think nobody has mentioned: Try accuracy at doors. Doors are difficult to enter because the game doesn't accept if you press up too early, but try it nevertheless. You don't need to be fully positioned with a door to enter it. If you can enter the door earlier, it's better. This applies when you are approacing the door directly from the right or left side. In the latest SMB2 movies I have noticed that both you and Sleepz used to enter doors at the far end of the door. Getting it right might save about 20 frames from the whole movie :) You did the second door (the one that leads to cave) in this version very well.

I always check the fastest way to enterring into each door by testing all frames. Notation: Fantasia skip 2/3 frames for the inputs = I can't use these frames to enterring door unless if someone know something that allow inputting all frames.

I can't use these frames to enterring door unless if someone know something that allow inputting all frames. That's true for pressing up, but if you ever want to press A or B at exactly the right time don't forget that you can use autofire to press the button in between the frames that you can normally press it at.

Maybe I'm too picky, but I do have 1 suggestion for 1-2. At the end when you're standing in front of Birdo and you jump, jump higher. Time it so that you're just over Birdo when the ball comes out of him, and since you're already falling, you'll fall down to the ball faster than if you were standing on him when the ball came out of him.

Ok, I'll take a look and see if my ultra-pickyness helps me come up with any suggestions. By the way, have you been using the 60 fps Famtasia hack? It might help you in some levels. Edit: You can also use the 60 fps hack to switch between characters faster between levels. Edit 2: If I remember correctly, you don't need to duck when you jump at the beginning of 1-2. However, even though not ducking might get you to Birdo a few frames faster, it doesn't matter for reasons I gave earlier. Edit 3: I can't tell from watching the video whether you do this already, but whenever you throw an item, use autofire so that you can let go of B for only 1 frame instead of 3. Edit 4: I just watched 1-3, and as long as you did what I said in my previous comment when you threw the enemy to pick up the potion and when you threw the potion, nothing else can be improved.

Maybe this has already been considered and rejected, but wouldn't Mario be a good choice for 1-1? Or is Toad's running so much faster that the time Mario would gain by avoiding the two squat jumps is (more than) offset? Andreas

Toad is the only character who runs faster while carrying an item. Even if Mario was able to get to Birdo faster than Toad, he would just have to wait longer for the first egg. All that matters is how fast you pick up the third egg and then the ball, and Toad picks things up the fastest. Edit: Genisto, I thought of a suggestion for 1-3. I'm too lazy to test this out myself, but does Toad run faster while carrying a potion? If he does, I think it would be better to wait slightly longer before you throw the potion. Throw it as late as possible so that you can still enter the door immediately when you land on the jar.

What was the new glitch? When I usd to play this game as a kid, I actually found to glitches (both useless to timeattacks) that I haven't seen online. The first I think you did on the video (stand in the floor happen when you jump at a ledge) and with a magic carpet you can go into the floor (if you are positioned correctly) and not get out. The most annoying (and hateful) glitch ever is when you have toadstools in this formation: ........TTT ......T......T OOOOOOOOOOOO T=toadstool O=Floor and you pick up one of the toadstoola and either: a.) an enemy hits you and you get trapped inside because the stool fell, or b.)you miss throwing the stool and get stuck. The first time it happened I wish in world 7 (the first time I got there) and had to reset the game because I got stuck.

Isn't there a suicide code in SMB2? I think it might be the same as in LoZ.

I am already ready to enter when the door appears. Michael Fried wrote: Isn't there a suicide code in SMB2? I think not. My glitch: Look at how I took Snifit at the beginning of the level 1-3.Normally we must be above him. More glitches: --No escape-- --World destruction-- (The door is not usable any more lol.)

You press Up+A on controller 2 and it'll kill your character. This was available in several NES games...

I'm not good at games, but the one thing I think anyone can agree on here, is that the videos are too short. :) I am a little disappointed in the use of warp zones in any video, especially SMB2 (US version). I would very much enjoy seeing a non-warp version. And I love all the exploits of bugs in the game. Is it possible for you to do Super NES videos? I'd love to see a Super Mario World video(s). I know that would be huge, but that was such a great game. And a Super Mario Kart video! :D

Btw, when you make screenshots from a NES emulator, better save them as PNG or GIF because they are much better suitable for repetitive low color images than JPG. They should be 4-8 kB of size. This screenshot was a 33 kB JPG.

Better PNG than GIF. It not only has better compression and doesn't degrade quality (by mapping the colors to an arbitrary 256-color pallete), but it's free. http://www.burnallgifs.org/
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.
