Hey, finally a name that sounds familiar. I have wondered where the "Peach" came from.

I first heard the name "Peach" used in Mario 64. Did it begin earlier than that? -Josh

I know the name "Peach" was used in Japan's SMRPG, and was changed to Toadstool for the localization, just like Koopa -> Bowser. I suppose it may have been used earlier, but I don't know when.

Peach wasn't used in the US till the N64 came out. It was thrown in as her first name.

Hey, finally a name that sounds familiar. I have wondered where the "Peach" came from. I'm not sure but I think SM64 was the first game that called her Peach. In the pre-N64 days she was always Princess Toadstool. just like Koopa -> Bowser In the SMB manual, he's called "Bowser, King of the Koopa".

Actually, I believe that she was called Peach in Yoshi's Safari, in some capacity anyway. Also in Mario RPG, the second battle with Belome, when he devours the party memebers he has a little quote for each one, and Toadstool's is appropriately enough 'Mmm, Peachy!'. Just some minor nitpicking ^_^ Of course it still can be said that the first time it was ever bluntly stated that her name is Peach (that anyone noticed, anyway) was Mario 64.

So, in short, there's a Princess Peach run because the character is popular. She's Princess Toadstool (in SMB2), not Princess Peach.
I thought her name was Princess Peach Toadstool.... or am I delirious? And didn't her letters in SMB3 have her name at the bottom? I'm not 100% sure on that... but it kinda sounds familiar... really sleepy atm, so forgive me if I'm erring. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Right on. Title. First name. Last name.

And didn't her letters in SMB3 have her name at the bottom? She signed the letters Princess Toadstool. Right on. Title. First name. Last name. How do you know? She could have just been Princess Toadstool in SMB2 and then changed her name and added in the Peach later on. We had no way of knowing about Peach when SMB2 came out.

She's called Peach in Japan. Toad is Kinopio. Bowser is Koopa. Etc. Ninty decided to use the name Peach in the US around the time of Super Mario 64.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

We didn't know about Peach till N64, but that was always her first name. Read the Nintendo Power reviews on Mario 64 and why NOA made the change it did.

I believe that's the ripper most of the commonly available roms are created with. Either way, in most of the roms available on the net the header says "diskdude" in it, and must be edited out for famtasia to play it.

Something I noticed for this game: If you hold up and down at the same time while on a vine or ladder, you'll zoom upwards quickly. Would this be of any use?

*fires up Famtasia and tries it* Dude! O_O I could imagine this being used in places like 7-2, with the chains all over the place...

Wow, that's indeed true, and a lot faster than jumping the chains / ladders. And it wasn't even accidentally discovered until now...

It's a Famtasia glitch. I tested it in Nesticle and it did not work. This glitch is similiar to the Tiny Toons glitch -- exclusive to Famtasia.

There is no such thing as a Famtasia glitch. Emulators do not do that kind of changes to games. When testing left+right / up+down tricks, don't use an emulator that explicitly forbids you doing them. Edit: I tested it with a unhandicapped FCEU and it works there too.

I'd be careful with statements like that. A glitch is, by definition, an unintentional bug, and how would you know that Famtasia is totally bug-free? (Admittedly, technically, you could prove that the source code is correct, but that's neither really feasible not is it enough to conclude that the binary file is, too (as Ken Thompson demonstrated). And even if you verify the actual machine code as well, there's still the environment the program runs in, from libraries used to the OS down to the actual hardware it runs on.)

I don't have much knowledge of source codes and such yet but I think I take Bisqwit's word for it. I believe that all those glitches could be done on a real console if you were to press up + down simultaniously and I don't think a NES-console have the "Famtasia bug"?

Because other emulators block the use of pressing opposing direction. In fact, they are wrong by doing so since we can press left+right or up+down on original console.

I would have hoped for not nitpicking. I was referring to things that cause NES games to run significantly differently in the emulator than on a real console, as in - character climbs twice the normal speed, etc. These are things that are inherent to the game programming logic, not to the emulator. I second, I did not hope for nitpicking.

I just tried it and that's pretty cool. You can also make huge jumps from the vine or ladder by doing this, so maybe there are shortcuts you can do by doing that. Would a run using this trick obselete the current run or would it be like Tiny Toons with 2 separate runs?
