Would we want to include fighting games? Single player isn't the most exciting mode to play, but you could still exhibit some neat tricks. Although, I think the SF2 run might just be redizzy combos. Were they in the SNES version?

Well, I know I'D watch someone beating the computer on the hardest mode in Mortal Kombat II. Bloody cheap AI. ><

Well, theoretically, a perfect run of this game would be great to see. Too bad that would be pretty much impossible to do, even with a rerecorder.

ok, i just made a recording of me beating mortal kombat 2 on very hard, finding/deafeating jade, using fatalities every round, and getting flawless victories every round. or at least i thought i did... the damn thing keeps desynching after the first round, EVERY TIME. its really annoying me, becuase i spent like 2 and a half hours doing it and i didnt even get to watch myself kick kintaros ass. i'll post the smv to see if any of you can get it to work. you'll see the game version when you unzip the file. has anyone else been having desynching problems with the recordable snes9x? http://www.geocities.com/krieg1337/MK2.zip

Well if it is desynced. I don't think it will be ok for us. Sorry but you must redo it.

The first time through, Baraka missed the final hit in round 1 and proceeded to get his butt whipped. The SECOND time through, the final hit landed, but it desynched almost immediately into round 2. X.x; Odd. Why the heck's it desynch in different parts? o.O Hope the Megaman X movie submission isn't borked. o.o Edit: MMX run worked fine for me. Strange. Wonder what it is that makes these things desynch...

could it be that my MK2 movie isnt desynched? maybe the game's moves are so randomized, that whether its in synch or not, the fight is different every round? that would explain why it desynchs differently everytime. i thought it had something to do with programs running in my background, but i turned nearly all of them off, and it still desynched. if the randomization is the case, then there probably wont be any time attacks for MK1, MK3, killer instinct, street fighter, ect. (is it desynched or desunk? desyunk?)

Someone made a SF time attack using Gens. I doubt it has to do with randomness. The MKII ROM felt weird to me...the music was all wrong. Perhaps it's just a bad dump?

OK, here's one for the topic: On the Ball. Or, as it's known in Japan, Camel Try. For those who don't know, in this game you rotate the screen around to maneuver a blue marble to the exit. Simple concept, but they do a lot with it and it's a hell of a fun game. Thing is, in addition to the set of courses you start with, there are THREE hidden sets which increase in difficulty (these are unlocked via passwords). A full run would take forever...I wonder if we could just make a video for each set of courses. This game is a natural for speedrunning, and I think it'd be awesome to see. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

It turns out there's a bug in snes9x's sound handling routines that can make the game behave somewhat randomly. It should only affect a few games, not all of them. MK2 is clearly one of them. A workaround is to record AND play back your movies with sound disabled.

here is a "off the top of my head list of games that i never expect to see a time attack of as they are just simply to long for anyone to every attempt them" RPGs on the snes really took a very long time to finish. if the game was made by squaresoft you can be guaranted that its over 10 hours long. god bless them for such classic rpg games :) Secret of Mana- doable in around 10 - 20 hours if your lucky Seiken Densetsu 3 - AKA - Secret of Mana 2 - totaly insane for anyone to attempt this, just a rough estimate around 15 - 30 hours. yes its that long. its huge as anyone who as ever played this knows, and if you hav'nt GO DO IT NOW. 6 characters, 3 story lines, 3 endings, endless party combos and 1 hell of a fun game. Illusions of Gaia- AKA - Illusions of Time- again simply to big. mabye around 10 hours? prolly longer Chrono Trigger- i never got far in this game so i cant comment on how long it might take, however as it is beyond of the time of Secret of Mana, i would guess around 10 - 15 hours. Secret of Evermore - i cant remember if i ever finished this or not but i got pretty far, and had me stuck a good 5 days. as a rough guess i would have to say around 15 - 20 hours. those are just some of my fav rpgs, and unfortunatly some of the longest games i've ever played. even by todays standards. when every game that comes out recently can be finished in around 8 - 10 hours, even rpg games it is so refreshing to look back at these classics and think what great fun they were. the games in this list are just so big and require a LOT of time leveling with spells and such, it is really quite impossible IMO to do a run of them without breaking the video into a lot of smaller, 1 hour parts. in many of these games, mainly Secret of Mana 1, a single spell level can mean death for your party if you come up against a boss. if anyone wants to attempt any of these feel free by all means, if you finish it you deserve your run to be uploaded from the sheer length of these brilliant titles.[/b]

You seem to be overestimating those times a bit. I'd be interested in running the first two SoulBlazer games. If I ever get the time to...
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

having played secret of mana, and secret of mana 2 over 20 times at least, i know how hard these games can be. yes i have over estimated these times, but any faster and you really just make the game harder on yourself. you may be able to get up to the last bosses in both SOM and SOM2 within 5 hours, but without the correct levels in spells and armor/weapons you will die very quickly. these games were never ment to be rushed through in 1 - 2 hours. not to mention the enemys in the later areas can kill you pretty fast. they have an unfair advatage of being able to queue up attacks, so they can hit you 5 times and you take all 5 hits 1 after the other, causing you to die in some cases when you never had a chance to even get up off the ground. also you must take the time to level your spells. just 1 level means the diffrence between 20 damage, and 150 damage on a boss. this is'nt much of a problem in SOM2 though as most bosses are quite beatable without any attack magic. SOM2 is more physical attack orientated in the battle system. but as i said if anyone can make a run of this game, any time under or between my very rough estimates is a fast time.

I have watched most of the movies on Bisqwit's site and some of the not yet released submissions, too. Now I want to make my own speed run, and I was thinking of one particular game that anyone hasn't mentioned, U.N. Squadron/Area88. I've played that game rather much, and I will probably make a run for it. The only thing is, should I try to play through it with only the first craft, or should I save up enough money to buy the best craft? I think the game is rather impossible with only the first craft, as you need upwards firing weapons on atleast two occasions. Any suggestions are welcome.

Try to find the fastest way to buy just the craft you need, play several times and compare how long it takes... I wouldn't know actually, I'm no player, just a time attack homie :)

I haven't played most of these games but I think that snes has the best games of any system so I'll be using this list as my guide. Lemmings 2: The Tribes is a really awesome game but it is just not played by many. I might be a little biased towards it since I played it when I was very young, but it really is the best puzzle game ever. A time-attack for this would be cool but pretty long because there are around 100 levels. Many of the early levels are pretty easy but later there are some that really make you use your brain. Oh and play it to always get gold (not losing unecessary lemmings, otherwise the puzzles would be easier). Also if any of you have played it and want a really hard challenge I have one for you: In the space section there is a level designed so that you must lose at least 1 lemming by using it as an exploder. However using several tricks it is actually possible to do without losing any.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Wasn't Lemmings 2 an NES game? Or am I just not remembering right? I can recall renting the game a time or two and just fiddling around with various Lemming types. Usually I'd make it with like...less than half my team intact. Suffice to say I wasn't good at it. I'd love watching a run of it, though. It, that infernal domino game, and Brain Lord are the top of my SNES Want List at the moment. Brain Lord'd take forever, though, I feel. Unless you really hauled butt through the levels... hell, I'm not quite sure how many dungeons there even are, as I only ever got past the first one a handful of times. X.x

You mean Push-Over? Or is there another domino puzzle-like game for SNES? I am just plannig 2 runs at Lemmings and Push-Over, don't know what I should concentrate first because they are both very hard to do perfect. Hey there are 125 and 100 levels to max out :/.

Pilotwings maybe? The skydiving event plus bonus can be done very quickly by nose diving and not opening till the last second and net like 170 points each round.... Rocket Belt can be done pretty quickly too and maybe hang gliding but less so... Anyway I think the time can be reasonable if the levels are done in an expediated manner. Helicopter mission can be flown near the ground I suppose (let's see it done within just 3 feet or so). What do you think? I would also like to see Megaman X2 + 3 but I doubt I have to ask for that :-)

Uh, the 8th boss (the mountain base one) REQUIRES to have at least the Gunpod. So you gotta buy the one that costs 500k. Btw, I have made a run of 36minutes. -I bought the 1mil one. (I had to take about 10 Quatermaster's Corps missions before I took on mission 8) -I take only 3 hits (way too much stuff flying around, and once to save time) -I try not to shoot any the normal enemies -Hard difficulty (there's a Gamer difficulty also but I never got the code to work on an emulator) Nice game but the main reason the run's never gonna be completed is the slowdown what comes after there's 8 or more enemies on screen. it looks horrible.

Secret of Evermore is something I've been thinking of doing. Not sure how long it would take.

I guess technically, evermore would require way more planning and in the end would probably be more interesting, even though people generally are less familiar with it and probably like it less.

I personally don't think so, the game is fairly short. You have to use the hidden prize rooms, as they skip much of each level. And Bart's Nightmare would definitely be cool. -Josh
